Anthropic Eyes Samsung Partnership to Build Next-Gen AI Chips

Anthropic Eyes Samsung Partnership to Build Next-Gen AI Chips

Anthropic has entered preliminary talks with Samsung to manufacture a custom AI chip using Samsung’s advanced 2nm process, a move that could reshape the AI hardware landscape by reducing dependence on Nvidia and optimizing costs for running Claude at scale. While no design or production timeline has been finalized, the discussions highlight Anthropic’s ambition to build in-house silicon expertise and Samsung’s push to challenge TSMC in cutting-edge foundry services.

Anthropic’s Strategic Shift

Anthropic, valued at nearly $965 billion, is exploring custom silicon as part of a broader industry trend where leading AI labs seek control over their hardware supply chains.
The company has begun defining specifications for a processor that could handle inference workloads—the computationally intensive task of running large language models like Claude—rather than training, which remains dominated by Nvidia GPUs and Google TPUs. This mirrors OpenAI’s unveiling of its Broadcom-designed “Jalapeño” inference accelerator.

The hiring of Clive Chan, a key engineer from OpenAI’s chip team, underscores Anthropic’s intent.

Chan helped design Jalapeño and brings expertise in building accelerators from the software layer up, giving Anthropic a strong foundation for its own silicon program.

Why Samsung?

Samsung’s appeal lies in both financial alignment and manufacturing capability.
The company participated in Anthropic’s $65 billion Series H round in May 2026, alongside SK Hynix and Micron, but unlike those firms, Samsung operates a foundry capable of producing advanced logic chips.

The talks focus on Samsung’s SF2 2nm process, which uses Gate-All-Around (GAA) nanosheet transistors for improved efficiency and density, and its advanced packaging technology, critical for high-bandwidth connections between logic and memory.

If successful, Anthropic would become a marquee client for Samsung Foundry, bolstering its bid to compete with TSMC, the current leader in advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

Industry Context

The move reflects a broader diversification trend in AI hardware.

Nvidia currently controls about 74% of the AI chip market, but soaring GPU costs—H100 units sell for over $30,000 each—and supply constraints are driving AI labs to explore alternatives.

Custom inference chips could reduce Anthropic’s costs by 30–50%, while ensuring more predictable access to compute capacity.
  • OpenAI partnered with Broadcom for Jalapeño.
  • Google continues to scale its in-house TPUs.
  • Amazon offers Trainium and Inferentia chips via AWS.
  • Meta is exploring custom silicon but remains in early stages.

Risks and Challenges

Despite the promise, the project remains nascent.

Anthropic has not finalized specifications, prototypes, or a manufacturing timeline.
Consulting multiple chip design firms suggests it may outsource parts of the architecture.
Even if development proceeds, production-ready chips could be years away, leaving Anthropic reliant on Nvidia, Google, and Amazon in the near term.

Implications

If Anthropic and Samsung succeed, the partnership could mark a turning point in AI infrastructure.

For Anthropic, it means greater autonomy, lower costs, and tailored performance for Claude.

For Samsung, it offers a chance to secure a high-profile AI client and strengthen its position against TSMC.

For the industry, it signals a future where AI labs own their full stack—from silicon to software—reducing reliance on external suppliers.

OXMIQ Labs Secures $35 Mn Series A to Scale Licensable GPU Core OxCore™ for Custom AI Silicon

OXMIQ Labs Secures $35 Mn Series A to Scale Licensable GPU Core OxCore™ for Custom AI Silicon

OXMIQ Labs Inc., a unified GPU and AI architecture company founded by Raja Koduri, today closed its $35 million Series A financing, bringing the company's total capital raised to $60 million. The funding will scale OxCore™, OXMIQ's licensable GPU architecture that allows semiconductor companies and AI system builders to build custom AI silicon without a full chip program. The round was co-led by Fundomo and Samsung Catalyst Fund, with participation from MediaTek, AM Intelligence Labs, Pegatron Venture Capital, CDIB-TEN, Darwin Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital, among other financial and strategic investors. OXMIQ's expertise spans the full AI stack, from renewable power and data center infrastructure to silicon IP, electron-to-token machines (ETMs™), along with the software that runs AI factories and agents.

One Core, Three Engines

Token demand is outpacing the world's ability to build infrastructure to serve it. OXMIQ was founded to re-architect the GPU stack from Atoms to Agents™, building the silicon IP, configurable systems and software platform that enable semiconductor companies and AI infrastructure builders to drive down the cost of intelligence at every layer of the stack.

At the center of the architecture is OxCore™, a scalable, licensable GPU core that integrates three distinct compute engines: a CUDA®-compatible GPU engine, a tensor processing engine, and an orchestration engine (CPU) responsible for coordinating workloads and agents across the system. OxCore tightly couples compute functionality that is typically split across three chips, and was purpose-built for near-memory compute, minimizing data movement to enhance compute and energy efficiency of AI workloads. OxCore was designed for scalability and the architecture scales efficiently from single-core AI deployments to large-scale datacenter configurations. OxCore is running on FPGA today, with live demonstrations available.

OXMIQ Technology Stack
OXMIQ Technology Stack

OxQuilt™, OXMIQ's chiplet integration architecture, combines heterogeneous compute chiplets and memory in a single package. Most AI silicon designs are locked to a specific foundry and memory type. OxQuilt instead adapts to any supply chain, with configuration tools that let customers design across logic process nodes, memory types, interconnect standards, and advanced packaging options. By making high-performance AI compute licensable and configurable, OXMIQ lets any design team build custom AI silicon packages without needing cost-prohibitive full chip programs. The architecture is also designed to incorporate emerging interconnect technologies such as silicon photonics as they reach production readiness.

OXMIQ pairs the hardware with a software stack spanning OxCapsule™ for high-level orchestration to low-level kernel optimization. OxPython™ runs existing CUDA® and PyTorch® code on OxCore without code changes, giving developers full portability across hardware. This stack supports emerging silicon architectures for optimized inference at scale and delivers day-zero support for new models. OxPython has been validated on third-party platforms with live demos available.

OXMIQ's IP-first model is built for capital efficiency. By focusing on new architecture IP rather than full SoC development, the company generates revenue from customer engagements while preserving capital for building the stack.

“We are very excited to co-lead OXMIQ’s financing round and back Raja Koduri and the strong team at OXMIQ.” said David (Dede) Goldschmidt, SVP & Managing Director, Head of the Samsung Catalyst Fund. “OXMIQ’s novel AI core and software platform enable heterogeneous compute for efficient, custom inference solutions serving large-scale agentic workloads.”

"Raja has built silicon at every layer of the stack, and he knows exactly where the constraints sit. Most compute IP makes the customer bend their memory, packaging, and foundry around the chip. OXMIQ does the opposite, and that flips a cost center into leverage. We backed this team because they will define how AI compute gets built this decade," said Rajeev Surati, Partner at Fundomo.

An Expanding Team

OXMIQ has strengthened its board and advisory ranks with two additions that bring decades of silicon pedigree. Jim Keller, CEO of Tenstorrent and among the most influential chip architects in the industry, joins the board of directors alongside existing board member Dr. Ker Zhang. Dr. Valluri (Bob) Rao, a renowned Fellow who retired from Intel's process technology group, joins as an advisor. Together, they deepen OXMIQ's leadership as the company moves from architecture to customer integration.

"I am excited to join the OXMIQ board. Raja and this team are creating an open GPU architecture, a much-needed step toward removing the artificial boundaries around AI innovation. As the industry concentrates around a few incumbents, this is more important than ever. OXMIQ's open, configurable foundation, which developers can build on and own, is exactly where compute should be heading," said Jim Keller, CEO of Tenstorrent and OXMIQ board member.

Raja Koduri, OXMIQ founder and CEO, added: "A licensable core with an open architecture means design teams everywhere can build the custom AI silicon their work needs. Today, state-of-the-art AI reaches most people through a handful of channels, and the cost of the compute underneath is the reason. Bring that cost down, and you widen who gets to build with it. I believe AI is a force for good when it is a tool everyone can pick up and use, not just the few who can afford to build with it. Closing this round with investors who own the supply chain tells us we can get there."

Get Involved

OXMIQ is working with semiconductor companies, neoclouds, AI system builders, and physical AI/ robotics companies ready to own their compute roadmap. For licensing and partnership inquiries, contact licensing@oxmiq.ai.

Investors

The round was co-led by Fundomo, a New York venture firm focused on frontier compute infrastructure, and Samsung Catalyst Fund, Samsung Electronics' evergreen multi-stage venture capital fund that invests in deep tech AI infrastructure. MediaTek, a seed investor and one of the world's leading fabless semiconductor companies, is reinvesting.

Lawrence Loh, SVP of MediaTek said, “MediaTek is actively powering today's advanced AI capabilities from the edge to the cloud. Our investment in OXMIQ underscores this push and combines our AI ambitions with their highly flexible GPU architecture. We see this investment as a way to continue unlocking unprecedented on-device AI performance across all technology platforms."

AM Intelligence Labs, part of the AM Green Group, joins this round as an investor, deepening the collaboration behind a 5GW total AI factory with 3GW as a renewable-powered AI compute platform that they are building with OXMIQ in India. CDIB-TEN is a joint fund between CDIB Capital, a leading Asian PE/VC firm expanding its asset management business through a strong regional presence anchored by over 65 years of investment heritage in Taiwan, and TEN Capital, a prestigious investment fund that is deeply wired into Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem. Pegatron Venture Capital, the investment arm of one of the world's largest ODMs and system integrators, adds manufacturing and systems depth to carry chiplet AI accelerator designs from architecture to deployment. Morgan Creek Digital, an investor focused on AI and digital infrastructure, joins the round on the thesis that compute capacity and architecture choice will define the AI economy this decade. Darwin Venture Management, a Taipei-based venture firm investing across the TaiwanSilicon Valley technology corridor, brings cross-border conviction that mirrors OXMIQ's own design and supply chain footprint. Intel Capital rounds out the group as a strategic IP partner, adding to OXMIQ's design and engineering depth.

AI-Powered Tennis Training Platform Wins ₹1 Crore Grant for Social Change Through Sport

AI-Powered Tennis Training Platform Wins ₹1 Crore Grant for Social Change Through Sport

Tennis training in India may soon get more accessible, thanks to a pair of young players who are using artificial intelligence to fill the coaching gap that persists beyond big cities.

Aadish Shelke from Aurangabad and Bhagyashri Meena from Mumbai — both 21-year-old tennis players and Computer Science students at IIIT Pune — have developed NextPlayAI, a platform that analyses tennis videos using machine learning to offer personalised feedback on strokes, footwork and match movements. The aim: to help budding tennis players from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities access guidance that usually requires expensive academies and elite coaches.

The duo’s innovation earned them a Samsung Solve for Tomorrow grant under the category Social Change through Sport and Technology. The platform is part of Samsung’s flagship education programme that supports youth-led tech solutions for real-world challenges. This year, four winning teams received ₹1 crore incubation support at IIT Delhi to scale their ideas.

Shelke said the idea emerged from the reality that tennis remains concentrated in a few urban pockets. “Tennis coaching often feels like a luxury,” he said. “In a city like Aurangabad, high-quality infrastructure and expert coaching are extremely limited. Many promising players drop out because they can’t get the right support at the right time.”

NextPlayAI helps players record their practice sessions and compare them with professional benchmarks — from serve mechanics to racket angles and on-court movement. Meena said the goal is to make tennis learning affordable and accessible. “There is so much valuable footage and data on elite players. We wanted to bring that intelligence to young athletes everywhere, especially those outside big metros,” she said.

Through the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow mentorship, the team refined their approach using design thinking to ensure the tool adapts to different learning styles. “Every tennis player has a unique rhythm and technique,” Shelke said. “The AI has to recognise individuality, not force uniformity.”

The duo now plans to collaborate with district sports associations and tennis academies to pilot the platform across smaller towns. They also want to build a team of developers and players from similar backgrounds — those who know firsthand the challenges of pursuing tennis from outside the mainstream circuit.

“We want to see more tennis champions emerge from places people don’t expect,” Meena said. “Talent exists everywhere — opportunity must too.”

As India looks beyond cricket to build a broader sporting culture, innovations like these aim to ensure that future tennis stars aren’t limited by their pin code.

Perceivia is designed to help visually impaired users perceive their surroundings through sound. Using an integrated suite of audio sensors, object-recognition cameras, and AI-based spatial analysis, the glasses detect and describe what lies ahead — from identifying objects and estimating distances to recognising human voices and faces. The device alerts users through subtle vibrations or real-time voice feedback, creating a kind of “sensory map” of their environment.

I grew up next door to a visually impaired neighbour,” Tushar recalls. I saw firsthand how daily tasks like crossing a road, identifying people, or locating objects could become monumental challenges. I knew I had to create something that gave them a sense of independence.
At the time, he admits, his ambition far outpaced his technical competence. “I had no background in computer vision or hardware design,” he says. “But Samsung Solve for Tomorrow gave me not just the resources, but also the confidence and mentorship to bridge that gap.”

I used Gemini 2.0 Flash for screen description and built facial and object recognition features using datasets contributed by visually impaired volunteers,” he explains. Their feedback helped me identify gaps in the prototype — what worked in theory often needed to be rethought in practice.

The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow programme, which invited thousands of young innovators across India to develop solutions for the nation’s most pressing challenges, gave Tushar both the stage and the support system to bring his idea to life.
We were taught how to understand markets, conduct research, and engage with potential partners. It was a crash course in how to turn an idea into an enterprise, says Tushar.
Tushar’s project was selected by a distinguished jury comprising senior Samsung leadership and experts from academia, government, and industry. His innovation emerged as a winner under the theme ‘AI for a Safer, Smarter, and Inclusive Bharat’, one of four focus areas in this year’s competition — alongside Future of Health and Hygiene, Environmental Sustainability through Technology, and Social Change through Sport and Tech.

For Tushar, the triumph marks both an end and a beginning. “Winning Samsung Solve for Tomorrow has opened doors I hadn’t even dared to knock on,” he smiles. “I want to collaborate with brands specialising in accessibility tech, refine the product’s design, and make it affordable for people across India. I’m also continuing my studies — there’s still so much to learn before I can build something truly transformative.”

In the coming year, he plans to test Perceivia with a wider group of users, gather feedback from mobility trainers, and integrate features for indoor navigation. His ultimate goal? To make the device as ubiquitous and indispensable as spectacles — not a luxury for the few, but a right for all.

With this added authentication method, Samsung Wallet makes secure payments as effortless as unlocking your phone.

Online Credit and Debit Card Payments at Key Merchants

Samsung Wallet will soon support direct online usage of stored credit and debit cards across a wide set of key merchants. Users will be able to seamlessly pay for goods and services online using the credit and debit cards safely tokenised in their Samsung Wallet—no need to manually key in card details, making checkout faster and more secure.

FOREX Cards and New Partnerships for Samsung Wallet Tap & Pay

In addition to Samsung Wallet already supporting credit and debit cards from leading banks and card issuers, the digital payments experience is enhanced beyond borders as Samsung Wallet will support FOREX cards for Tap & Pay, powered by WSFx Global Pay Limited, enabling Galaxy users to make seamless international transactions with a simple tap. Additionally, Samsung has onboarded AU Bank cards for Tap & Pay, further expanding its network of banking partners and supported card issuers.

Samsung to Buy Back $7.17 Bn Worth of Shares

Samsung to Buy Back $7.17 Bn Worth of Shares

Samsung Electronics has announced a $7.17 billion share buyback program to boost shareholder value. This is the first buyback since 2017 and comes after the company's shares plunged to a four-year low.

The buyback will involve repurchasing 50.14 million common shares and 6.91 million preferred shares over the next three months, i.e. from November 18, 2024, to February 17, 2025, with the remaining amount to be decided by the board of directors.

The repurchased shares will be canceled to enhance shareholder value. The remaining 7 trillion won will be repurchased based on decisions made by the board of directors.

This move is expected to help stabilize Samsung's share performance and address investor concerns following a disappointing quarterly profit.

Following the announcement, Samsung's shares rose by 7.2%, marking the biggest daily jump since March 2024.
