Ajay Chitkara to Join Ecom Express as MD & CEO

Ajay to assume responsibilities from 1st September, 2023

Ecom Express Opens Grocery Fulfilment Center in Coimbatore

Ecom Express Limited today announced the expansion of its fulfilment business network by launching a fulfilment center in Palladam near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It is the first fulfilment center in this part of the region which will cater to grocery items including temperature-controlled category and fruits & vegetables.

The new facility is designed to support one of the top e-grocery players and it is company’s first grocery fulfilment center in Tamil Nadu and 7th in the South region. The facility will cater to 50+ dark stores owned by the grocery player. The facility is located strategically with consideration of network centricity as Coimbatore offers easy access to Bengaluru, north Kerala, south Karnataka, and west and south Tamil Nadu1. This expansion will help the grocery brand to offer a wider selection and enable faster deliveries of customer orders within the region and towns in the neighbouring states.

With an average inventory of close to 2 million items and capacity to process upward of 200,000 throughput at full capacity, the facility has a value creation area that enables labelling, packaging, and dispatch services. The operations are optimised by state-of-the-art Vertical Reciprocal Conveyors (VRCs), lifts and spiral elevators to provide high mobility and speed in goods movement.

The facility is equipped with agile and well-designed racking systems for products such as household supplies, staples, tea, snacks and beverages, confectionery, personal care and more.

Ecom Express to Partner with Govt, Medical Bodies To Set-Up Vaccination Camps for Employees, Their Families and Larger Community, Procures Oxygen Concentrators

In its endeavour to further its efforts towards employee and community well-being, Ecom Express, a leading tech-enabled end-to-end logistics solutions provider to the Indian e-commerce industry, has announced initiatives for Covid relief, which include setting up of Covid vaccination camps for employees across multiple locations in India. These camps will be organized at Company’s offices and warehouses and beneficiaries will include contractual workforce covering more than 45,000 people.

This will be one of the slew of initiatives taken by the Company this year in collaboration with the government and local medical bodies. It will be using its own infrastructure besides taking additional spaces across district towns and villages such as schools, community halls, etc. to set-up the vaccination camps. The drive will also be extended to the families of employees and community.

Ecom Express Gets US$ 20 Mn Follow-On Investment from CDC Group

CDC Group, the UK Government's development finance institution and impact investor in South Asia and Africa, today announced that it has closed a US$ 20 Million investment round in Ecom Express, a leading tech-enabled end-to-end logistics solutions provider to the Indian e-commerce industry. This will be CDC's second round of investment in Ecom Express after its initial investment in December 2019.

CDC's latest commitment will support Ecom Express in advancing the company's sustainable development and impact agenda of enhancing skills and boosting job creation in the Indian hinterlands. With the high demands for jobs in India, the country needs to create 8.1 million jobs a year to maintain its employment rate. This investment supports India's effort as it will enable Ecom Express to create 8,000 new jobs in addition to an initial target of 15,000 roles – prioritising employing women for jobs at delivery centres, fulfilment centres and warehouses across the nation.

Additionally, Ecom Express will be utilizing the equity infusion by CDC Group investments for strategic initiatives such as growth driven capital expenditure, working capital requirements, new business initiatives, expansions, and potential strategic acquisitions/partnerships.

Ecom Express, a leading technology enabled end-to-end logistics solutions provider to e-commerce industry, today announced that it will be creating 30,000+ seasonal employment through September and October months across its Fulfilment Centres, Hubs, Sortation Centres and Delivery Centres. The Company is gearing up for the surge in online shopping backed by festival sales and increasing preference to doorstep deliveries. The majority of the hires will be delivery personnel, hub and sorting centre associates and workforce for the warehousing activities. 

These seasonal positions have been created across the country with 3/4th of the hiring beyond metros as well as cities including, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vijayawada, Chandigarh, Indore, Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur, Bhopal and Jaipur.

E-commerce Logistics Firm Ecom Express Bags Rs 192 Cr From Warburg Pincus

A leading end-to-end e-commerce logistics solutions provider, Ecom Express has raised Rs 192 crore from existing investor Warburg Pincus, reports Ettech. Earlier in 2015, Warburg Pincus has invested Rs 850 crore in Ecom Express.

According to the documents with the registrar of companies (ROC) as per Tofler, the investment was made through the private equity firm's unit Eaglebay Investment. The RoC documents show that a 'Supplemental Agreement' was made on September 8 in which 609,524 compulsorily convertible preference shares (Series III CCPS) were issued and allotted by way of preferential allotment to Eaglebay Investment at Rs 3,150 per Series III CCPS for an aggregate subscription amount of Rs 192,00,00,600.

Founded in 2012 by T A Krishnan, Manju Dhawan, K Satyanarayana and Sanjeev Saxena, Ecom Express has brought to the marketplace unique and innovative practices. One of them being the full-state coverage programme which was initiated in the year 2016 with the objective of opening doors for e-commerce in remote and rural locations of India while offering rural consumers with greater opportunities emerging out of an e-commerce proposition. This expansion follows the earlier full-state coverage in Delhi, Haryana, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, which was completed last year.

Earlier in March 2017, Ecom Express has announced a major round of expansion by adding over 6000 more Pin Codes in its services and strengthening reach in the entire states of Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal as part of its full-state coverage programme.

Ecom Express takes the total pin code coverage to more than 17000 entrenching its leadership position in the e-commerce logistics industry in terms of reach.

Whereas, Warburg Pincus has been an active investor in the logistics space in the country in recent years. According to the Ettech report, the firm has invested $75 million (Rs 500 crore) in Gurgaon-based logistics services provider Rivigo last year for a minority stake. The PE firm is also an investor in third-party logistics company Stellar Value Chain.
