Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Unveils 10 Made‑in‑India Two‑Wheelers, Blending ICE, EV & Flex‑Fuel for Lifestyle Mobility
  • The portfolio reflects Honda’s multi-pathway approach across ICE, EV and Flex-Fuel mobility, alongside a deepening localization commitment in India.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today unveiled an expanded portfolio of 10 motorcycles and scooters for the Indian market - seven all-new models and three refreshed models with new color options. The lineup spans cruising, adventure touring, roadsters, lifestyle-oriented riding, electric and flex fuel mobility, addressing diverse customer needs across multiple segments.

The localization of these models marks a significant milestone in HMSI’s journey, reinforcing its focus on strengthening product development, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities in India. It also widens access to Honda’s global technologies while enhancing local sourcing and manufacturing competitiveness.

The expansion comes as India’s two-wheeler market moves beyond being predominantly utility-led towards more differentiated mobility choices. While affordability, fuel efficiency, and total cost of ownership remain fundamental considerations, customers are increasingly seeking products aligned with their individual lifestyles and riding aspirations. Responding to this shift, HMSI’s 10-product lineup offers customers a wider choice of motorcycles and scooters to match their diverse riding needs and preferences.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tsutsumu Otani, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said,
India remains one of Honda's most strategic global markets. This 10-product portfolio offers a wide range of mobility solutions. It reinforces Honda's multi-pathway approach, with advanced ICE vehicles, electric mobility solutions, and flex-fuel technologies designed to address diverse customer needs and varying infrastructure readiness. At the same time, we are accelerating our Make-in-India for the World commitment by strengthening local engineering and manufacturing capabilities. This not only allows us to bring Honda's global technologies closer to Indian customers, but also reinforces India's role as an important manufacturing and export hub within Honda's global operations, while maintaining the quality, reliability, and safety that define Honda.

Mr. Mutsuo Usui, Director - Sales & Marketing, added,

Indian customers today are looking for products that complement their lifestyles as much as their mobility needs. Through this expanded portfolio, we are bringing a broader range of Honda’s globally acclaimed models to India and offering customers greater choice across multiple riding categories. Whether for daily commuting, weekend exploration, adventure touring, or leisure riding, this product range enables customers to choose a Honda that best matches their aspirations.
As part of its focus on enhancing riding convenience, select models in the portfolio will also be equipped with Honda E-Clutch technology, which automatically controls clutch operation. This makes riding easier in congested traffic and stop-and-go conditions.
HMSI will introduce the new products in a phased manner. Detailed launch timelines, pricing, and market availability for each model will be announced closer to their respective launches.

This flexibility supports India’s increasing adoption of ethanol-based fuels, helping reduce fossil fuel dependency and contributing to environmental impact reduction while maintaining Yamaha’s hallmark performance.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Hajime Aota, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group, said: “Achieving a carbon-neutral future requires a dynamic, multi-pathway strategy rather than a single solution. Having already commenced our electric vehicle journey in India, the introduction of our innovative Blue Flex technology marks another strategic milestone. This move is a deliberate alignment of Yamaha’s global sustainability vision with the Indian government’s progressive biofuel policies. By embracing multiple technological avenues, we reinforce our commitment to global carbon neutrality goals while providing versatile, high-quality products tailored to the evolving needs of Indian consumers.”

Drawing inspiration from the popular FZ series, the Blue Flex version of FZ features a bold full-LED projector headlamp with integrated position lamps, a sculpted fuel tank with aerodynamic styling cues, faux air vents, and a compact exhaust. A single-piece seat and sharp LED tail lamp enhance both comfort and its sporty, modern road presence. Delivering 8.6 kW of power and 12.8 Nm of peak torque, the FZ-Blue Flex is paired with a smooth 5-speed gearbox. It is equipped with front telescopic suspension and a rear swingarm setup for stable handling, along with ABS for enhanced braking confidence and safety across riding conditions. The FZ Blue Flex will be available in Metallic Black Colour and will be sold through Yamaha’s select Blue Square dealerships in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

India’s supportive policy framework—promoting ethanol blending, cleaner fuels, and reduced emissions—has accelerated the shift toward sustainable mobility solutions. Yamaha’s introduction of the FZ-Blue Flex reinforces its commitment to these national priorities, while also aligning with the company’s global ambition to achieve carbon neutrality across its product lifecycle.

  • The first batch of 65 out of a total 260 Montra Electric Rhino 5538 EV trucks was flagged off from Montra Electric's Manesar manufacturing facility, marking the commencement of a phased deployment across key industrial applications and strategic freight corridors.
  • The deployment will help establish one of India's longest electrified freight corridors, marking a significant milestone in the country's transition towards zero-emission heavy commercial transportation.
Montra Electric, the clean mobility brand of the Murugappa Group, today flagged off the first batch of its Rhino 5538 EV heavy-duty electric trucks from its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Manesar, marking the commencement of a phased large-scale deployment across key industrial sectors in India.

The flag-off underscores the rapid evolution of India's heavy commercial vehicle market from pilot deployments to commercial-scale electrification. As fleet operators increasingly adopt zero-emission freight solutions, Montra Electric has significantly scaled up production of its Rhino platform to meet a growing order pipeline and support the accelerating transition towards sustainable logistics.

Engineered for demanding freight operations, the Rhino 5538 EV delivers high performance, exceptional reliability and a lower total cost of ownership. Designed for applications across cement, steel, infrastructure, construction materials, mining and other heavy-duty sectors, the vehicle combines operational efficiency with the performance required for long-haul and high-utilisation freight movement.

The flag-off marks the first phase of deliveries, with the remaining vehicles scheduled for deployment over the coming months, further strengthening the electrification of freight operations across multiple industrial corridors.

Mr. Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility Pvt. Ltd.) said: "India's heavy freight ecosystem has reached an important inflection point. Customers today are making electric trucks a part of their mainstream logistics operations rather than evaluating them through limited pilots. This shift is driving commercial-scale production at our Manesar facility, and we are proud to be supporting leading enterprises with products that combine performance, reliability and sustainability. Our focus remains on building an ecosystem that enables customers to transition confidently towards zero-emission freight."

Mr. Navneet Sethi, CEO – eMHCV, Montra Electric (IPLTech Electric Pvt. Ltd.) said: "The conversation around electric trucking has fundamentally changed. Fleet operators are now asking how quickly they can scale, not whether the technology works. These are the most demanding freight applications, requiring uncompromised performance, high uptime and dependable operating economics. Rhino has been engineered precisely for these requirements, delivering a compelling combination of productivity, efficiency and lower total cost of ownership. With manufacturing now ramped up, we are well positioned to support the growing demand from customers across India's industrial sectors."

The Rhino 5538 EV combines an advanced electric powertrain, intelligent vehicle engineering and connected telematics to address the evolving needs of modern freight transportation. Designed for high-utilisation commercial operations, it delivers the performance, reliability and operational efficiency required across diverse heavy-duty applications.

Backed by a growing order book and increasing customer adoption across sectors such as cement, steel, infrastructure and mining, Montra Electric continues to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities, service network and customer support ecosystem to enable large-scale fleet electrification.

As businesses increasingly balance operational efficiency with sustainability commitments, electric heavy-duty trucks are emerging as a commercially viable solution for mainstream freight movement. The latest rollout from Montra Electric's Manesar facility reinforces the company's commitment to accelerating India's freight electrification journey through indigenous innovation, advanced manufacturing and customer-centric mobility solutions.

Porsche’s 2027 Taycan Reinvents EV Thrills with Simulated Gearshifts

The 2027 Porsche Taycan has been unveiled with a new “E‑Shift” simulated gearshift system, larger 105 kWh battery, and enhanced infotainment, making it the most driver‑focused Taycan yet, reported Autocar India. The top‑spec Turbo GT also debuts Porsche’s Manthey kit, setting a Nürburgring EV lap record.

Virtual gears in EVs like the 2027 Porsche Taycan are software‑simulated gear ratios that mimic the feel of a combustion car’s transmission. They don’t physically exist — the Taycan still runs a single‑speed drivetrain — but the system creates artificial “shift points,” rev limits, and engine‑braking sensations to make driving more engaging.

Key Highlights of the 2027 Porsche Taycan

  • E‑Shift simulated gears
Eight virtual gears with paddleshifters, realistic shift jerks, drag torque mimicking combustion braking, virtual rev limiter, gearshift indicator, and Porsche Electric Sport Sound. Standard on Turbo GT.
  • Battery upgrade
105 kWh Performance Battery Plus standard on most variants, supports 320 kW DC fast charging, new battery health display.
  • Infotainment system
AI‑powered voice control, expanded Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, 3D vehicle model display, customizable widgets, OTA updates, magnetic smartphone tray with 25W wireless charging.
  • Manthey kit (Turbo GT only)
Adds aero upgrades, larger brakes, forged rims, more power. Available factory‑fit or retrofit. Turbo GT with Manthey kit set Nürburgring EV lap record in May 2026.

How Virtual Gears Work

Porsche’s 2027 Taycan Reinvents EV Thrills with Simulated Gearshifts
Image - Sawyer Merritt/X
  • Software‑defined ratios
The EV’s power band is divided into zones that behave like gears. Each zone alters throttle response and torque delivery.
  • Shift simulation
When you pull a paddle, the car briefly cuts power to mimic a gear change, producing a “shift jerk.”
  • Virtual rev limiter
Power plateaus at the top of each ratio until you shift, just like hitting redline in a petrol car.
  • Engine braking effect
Lifting off the throttle in lower virtual gears produces drag torque, slowing the car more aggressively.
  • Sound & visuals
Porsche’s Electric Sport Sound adjusts pitch with “rev build,” while the cluster shows a tachometer, gear indicator, and shift lights.

📊 Pros & Cons

AspectBenefitTrade‑off
EngagementAdds excitement, tactile feedbackMay reduce seamless EV acceleration
Learning curveFamiliar for petrol driversCould feel gimmicky to EV purists
Engine brakingBetter control in cornersArtificial, not mechanically necessary
CustomizationCan switch off anytimeAdds cost (optional package on most trims)

Trade‑offs & Considerations

  • Simulated gearshifts
Adds engagement but may reduce seamless EV acceleration; can be switched off.
  • Battery health monitoring
Useful for longevity, but fast charging at 320 kW may accelerate degradation if used excessively.
  • Manthey kit
Track‑focused; may be overkill for daily driving.

India Context

  • Price range
    ₹2.01 – ₹2.74 crore (ex‑showroom).
  • Range
630–668 km WLTP depending on variant.
  • Competitors
    Tesla Model S Plaid, BMW i7 M70.
Several automakers are exploring or already offering simulated gearshift features in their EVs. Hyundai was the first to introduce “N e‑Shift” in the Ioniq 5 N, which mimics manual gear changes with fake revs, torque cuts, and drivetrain jolts, even filing patents for a tactile stick‑shift sensation. BMW is bringing a similar concept to its upcoming electric M3, where paddle‑controlled simulated gear changes are designed to enhance track driving by helping drivers judge corner entry speeds, though BMW maintains full torque delivery regardless of the virtual gear.

India's Tata Motors is researching multi‑speed EV transmissions validated through simulation, focusing on efficiency, NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), and driving dynamics rather than pure driver engagement. And now Porsche has joined with its 2027 Taycan “E‑Shift,” offering virtual gears, rev limiters, drag torque, and sound design to create a luxury EV experience that feels closer to traditional sports cars.

Together, these brands show different philosophies: Hyundai emphasizes fun and drama, BMW prioritizes track precision, Tata focuses on technical efficiency, and Porsche blends performance with luxury engagement.
