Indian Generative AI-based SaaS Startups Doubled Since 2021, Raised $590 Mn in Funding

Indian Generative AI-based SaaS Startups Doubled Since 2021, Raised $590 Mn in Funding

Amid the growing demand for Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) tools, like ChatGPT, a rapid growth of Indian GenAI-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) startups has also grew over the time. According to a report by SaaSBoomi and McKinsey, Generative AI based SaaS startups have more than doubled since 2021, in India, and have raised $590 million in funding as of May 2023.

Currently, there are around 60 Generative-AI startups in India, compared to just 18 in 2021 the report said.

The report titled ‘India’s SaaS Revolution: Exploring global opportunities in a dynamic market', also predicts that the India-centric SaaS ecosystem could achieve $50-70 billion in revenue and $0.5 to $1 trillion in enterprise value creation aspirations by 2030. Indian SaaS firms generated around $2.6 billion in revenue in 2020, which is projected to reach $15-20 million by 2025.

Capital invested in Indian SaaS companies grew 24% from $5.9 billion in 2021 to $8.4 billion 2022, even as SaaS investments globally got a 20% shaving from $305 billion to $245 billion in the same period.

Globally, the number of Gen AI-native SaaS companies has exploded, with over $12 billion invested in 60+ emerging domains in FY23 alone. Generative AI has attracted the attention of software giants like SAP, Salesforce, and IBM.

The number of Indian SaaS exits doubled in the last two years as more and more companies learnt the scaling and M&A mantras from their successful peers, said the report.

By utilizing the depth of domain and functional expertise available in India, SaaS companies in the country are well-positioned to embrace Generative AI. Investment firms like Together Fund are actively seeking opportunities in companies that leverage Generative AI.

The growth of Generative AI will have an impact on the workforce, requiring companies to invest in training and upskilling.

Last month, Indian IT services company HCLTech partnered Microsoft, a major investor in ChatGPT parent OpenAI, to help enterprises harness generative artificial intelligence (AI). Microsoft will train and develop skills among Indian IT company's workforce.

In early of last month, BYJU’S also announced the launch of BYJU’S WIZ, an innovative suite of three cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) transformer models - BADRI, MathGPT, and TeacherGPT.

  • NimbleS2P was a finalist for the National Start-Up Awards in 2021
  • The funds raised will be utilized for sales, marketing, partner relations, and product development
  • Inflection Point Ventures (IPV) has so far invested over INR 550 Cr across 140+ deals
SaaS platform NimbleS2P has raised Rs 4 crore in a Pre-Series A round led by Inflection Point Ventures (IPV). The round also saw participation from other micro-venture catalysts and angel investors. The funds raised will be used for sales, marketing, partner relations, and product development.

NimbleS2P is a solution that aims to automate complex workflows related to finance, accounting, and procurement. The platform is designed to easily integrate and complement large ERP software such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, and others to deliver cost-effective digitization of business processes for businesses in the manufacturing and real estate sectors. Supplier management, PO and invoice processing, and contract management are among the platform modules. The company currently caters to 15+ customers, including renowned names like DLF, Jindal Steel & Power, and Oberoi Realty, among others.

Ankur Mittal, Co-Founder, Inflection Point Ventures, says, “MSMEs are the backbone of the economy as they contribute nearly 30% to the GDP. However, critical sectors like manufacturing, power and infra have remained largely untouched from digital transformation owing to lack of tailormade platforms for them. NimbleS2P allows them to leverage their product to make an efficient and structural model and organise their workflow. This market is huge (both in India and internationally) with visible benefits (both cost and time) to the clients at an early stage that should support stickiness and adoption. The founders have deep experience in the space and can build a scalable and profitable business. This encouraged us to make an investment in the company.”

The SaaS solution streamlines and automates manual activities for buyers, reduces processing time by 50–70%, and enables inclusiveness by allowing small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to register and transact with large buyers. It also promotes better governance through its "know your supplier" process and supports the Digital India and Atma Nirbhar Bharat schemes by strengthening MSMEs and enabling their growth and expansion.

NimbleS2P creates 60%+ cost savings in source-to-pay for enterprises, and on top of that, it establishes a trusted supplier ecosystem, unleashing network effects within weeks.

Chandresh Sharma, CEO, NimbleS2P, says, "Our vision is to revolutionize supplier-buyer interaction through a fully-automated platform. In the next 2 to 3 years, we aim to establish a strong foundation and attract over 200,000 users, expanding our growth story from India to the Middle East, and South-Asia. In fact, we are confident that our partnership with IPV will be instrumental in driving significant value for our stakeholders and help us create a connected, automated, and well-networked supply chain."

The current global supply chain market size is estimated to be worth over $6 billion, and it is growing at a consistent rate of 7% CAGR, which means that by 2032, it is projected to reach an estimated $13 billion. The direct potential for this market is significant, particularly in India, where it is estimated to be worth over $750 million. Additionally, the Southeast Asia and Middle East regions also have a direct potential of over $2 billion, making it a lucrative opportunity for businesses in these regions. NimbleS2P is working with an aim to emerge as the "Most Preferred Supplier Portal" globally and already has tremendous traction in terms of partners in Middle-East, and closing few deals in Africa, and South Asia.

NimbleS2P was founded in 2016 by Chandresh Sharma and Arun Krishnamoorthy with the goal of revolutionizing the source-to-pay process in the supply chain and logistics industries. • Funds raised to be used for team expansion and B2B focused marketing initiatives
  • Everstage automates the sales commission processes in companies to drive the performance of their customer executives
  • Everstage customers include SaaS Unicorns like Chargebee, Postman and Lambdatest

Chennai, 12th August 2021: Everstage, a B2B Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) startup has raised $1.7 million in seed funding led by 3one4 Capital with participation from several prominent angels including Prasanna Sankar, co-founder of Rippling; Krish Subramanian and Rajaraman Santhanam, co-founders of Chargebee; Sidharth Malik, CRO of Freshworks; Koti Reddy, CTO of Conga; Vetri Vellore, CEO of Ally.io; Utsav Somani, Partner at Angellist India; Ganesh Shankar, CEO of Rfpio among others. The Company plans to use

Founded in 2020, by Siva Rajamani formerly with Freshworks and Vivek Suriyamoorthy previously with DE Shaw, Everstage helps companies drive performance of their customer-facing teams through its no-code sales commission automation platform. Some of the early customers include SaaS unicorns and high-performing companies such as Chargebee, Postman & Lambdatest. Over the next 12 months, the Company plans to grow their customer base by 20X. Everstage is already working with multiple customers from the US. The Company is planning to launch their operations at a much larger scale in the US in the next 12 months.

Mr. Siva Rajamani saw this problem first-hand as the Global Head of Revenue Operations at Freshworks: sales commission management complicates work for ops & finance teams, and lack of transparency leads to stressed sales teams.

Siva Rajamani, Co-founder CEO, Everstage, says, “A typical company spends more than 10% of their budget on commissions. Yet, most companies manage commissions over spreadsheets, losing out on the opportunity to provide visibility and drive sales performance through interventions.” Legacy vendors have also not addressed this problem effectively. “In my previous role, while evaluating these vendors, we realized that they were really professional services firms disguised as software products. There was neither flexibility for the Ops and Finance team, nor were they set up to motivate sales teams,'' he adds.

Everstage was born to address this gap as they have built a platform which fully integrates quota and commissions management platform, with a no-code plan designer offering complete flexibility to Ops and Finance teams while gamifying the entire commission’s experience for customer-facing teams.

Anurag Ramdasan, Principal & Head of Investments, 3one4 Capital says, “As customer acquisition and retention have increased in complexity with more roles & workflows than ever, Revops teams have become mandatory to drive revenue. With their considerable experience, the Everstage team is well-positioned to help Revops teams succeed, starting with real-time commission planning and administration, and we're excited to partner with them."

Everstage is a B2B SaaS startup based in Delaware, US, and Chennai, India. The company provides a no-code commissions automation platform to companies across verticals. Most of its customers are organizations based in North America.

Customers use Everstage to remove recurring busywork for their Ops and Finance teams and provide transparent and gamified incentives experience to their customer-facing teams. Everstage counts hyper-growth companies such as Chargebee, Postman and Lambdatest among its customer base.

The company was founded in 2020, by Siva Rajamani (previously Freshworks) and Vivek Suriyamoorthy (previously DE Shaw). Everstage has raised $1.7M in its seed funding led by 3one4 Capital with the participation of several prominent angels. The company has aggressive growth plans with the aim to 30x its customer base and 4x its employees over the next 12 months.

AI-based SaaS Startup Spyne Raises Seed Funding led by Smile Group, Others

Spyne, an AI-based SaaS startup that helps creative professionals such as photographers and corporations to smartly leverage their content for business growth, has raised seed funding led by Smile group and other angel investors participating.

The recent funding will be used to build deeper technology solutions to streamline and distribute massive offline content photographers have.

Launched in July 2018, Spyne is founded by Sanjay Kumar (IIT Kharagpur) and Deepti Prasad (Delhi School of Economics). “Our vision is to build a single platform for creative professionals, businesses and consumers across the globe to achieve their creative goals in the most effective manner. The digital photography industry is worth nearly $110B, with millions of photographers working as freelancers on various photography assignments, producing billions of images/videos every day. There is a huge scope of innovation in the ways how content is stored, edited and distributed to clients and social media platforms presently.” says Sanjay.

The team is already working on a full spectrum of features - Face detection, auto-tagging of millions of photos with relevant text to make them crawled by Google; and AI-based Photo & Video editing solution to reduce the edit time of projects from days to minutes.

“The world speaks the language of visuals. Instagram’s growth is the biggest example. On one hand, you have creative professionals that require intuitive solutions to become more productive. At the other, you have businesses that need plenty of high-quality content to drive conversions.” says Deepti.

She further adds “Let’s just take photographers as an example. Most of them still use DVDs and USBs to share their content with customers. Some have moved onto cloud-based solutions. But, can the photographers deliver personalized experiences to the people viewing the content? Can an AI solution understand the photographer’s subjective enhancements on the images and replicate the same over the photographer’s next batch of images? Spyne is exploring this route.”

The company is already on a high growth path. It has signed up more than 700 photographers in the last 10 months of launch and is looking to scale till 3000+ by the year-end. Spyne platform has enabled the photographers to share 10M+ images with their clients, generating 5000+ favorable reviews for photographers, unprecedented in the domain.
