TCS Signs Its First Fast-Food Chain Deal in the APAC, To Digitize 760+ McDonald’s Restaurants in the Philippines

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has signed a two-year partnership with Golden Arches Development Corporation (GADC), the master franchise holder of McDonald's in the Philippines.

This deal, which is TCS’ first with the fast-food chain in the APAC region, aims to modernize and digitize the IT operations for over 760 McDonald's restaurants in the country.

TCS will implement SAP S/4HANA on RISE to upgrade the current systems to the cloud, providing better insights, improved decision-making, and optimized operational performance. This partnership marks TCS's first engagement with McDonald's in the Asia-Pacific region.

McDonald’s is one of the world’s largest foodservice retailers with over 42,000 locations in over 100 countries as of end 2023. Approximately 95% of McDonald’s restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local business owners.

Golden Arches Development Corporation (GADC) has grown significantly in the Philippines over the last few years, anchored on its commitment to digital transformation, including standardization of the IT landscape across all its restaurants nationwide.

TCS will future-proof GADC’s processes to support their growth plans. Through the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), TCS will provide development and integration services encompassing app development, automation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

These integrations will significantly enhance the fast-food chain’s proficiency in financial management, materials management, enterprise asset management, project management, sales and distribution, user interface, and master data management.

This strategic partnership highlights TCS’ growing presence in the Philippines, where it has been operational since 2008. With over 5,000 employees in the Philippines, TCS supports customers across diverse sectors in the region including, telecom, banking and finance, real estate, and airlines, driving their growth and transformation. TCS has also been recognised as a Top Employer in the Philippines from 2017 to 2024.

Margot Torres, Managing Director at GADC, said, “This partnership with TCS is another step in our continuous digital transformation. The implementation of SAP S/4HANA on RISE will provide us greater agility through data-driven insights, enabling us to continuously improve our customer and employee experience.”

The benefits of the upgrade include increased efficiency and optimized operating costs, digital transformation and innovation, enhanced franchisee experience driving stakeholder loyalty, improved process optimization and workforce productivity.

Shiju Varghese, Country Head, TCS Philippines, commented: "We are pleased to partner with GADC on this significant engagement that marks an important step for TCS Philippines as we expand our presence in the region's fast-food industry. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of SAP S/4HANA and the innovative potential of SAP BTP, we aim to enhance McDonald's operational efficiency and customer experience, for business innovation and excellence."

TCS will also integrate other SAP capabilities to ensure comprehensive data management and automation solutions tailored to GADC’s needs. These integrations will significantly enhance the fast-food chain’s proficiency in financial management, materials management, enterprise asset management, project management, sales and distribution, user interface, and master data management.

Rudy Abrahams, President & Managing Director, SAP Philippines, stated, "We are excited to support Golden Arches Development Corporation in their continuous digital transformation journey. Implementing SAP S/4HANA on RISE will empower them with cutting-edge technology, ensuring McDonald’s stays ahead in the fast-evolving food service industry. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in driving innovation and operational excellence."

McDonald's India Commissions Delhi’s Largest Solar Power Plant in Najafgarh

McDonald's India Commissions Delhi’s Largest Solar Power Plant in Najafgarh

World's largest fast food restaurant chain, McDonald's restaurants in North and East India, has invested Rs 14 crore to commission Delhi’s largest solar power plant in Najafgarh.

The solar plant is of 3.2 MW capacity and is said to reduce 3,822 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

With this, 24 percent of McDonald’s Delhi restaurants have now transitioned to renewable energy, the company said in media statement.

McDonald's India - North and East is finding innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gas, keep waste out of nature and preserve natural resources. Apparently, the used cooking oil is repurposed into biodiesel, which is known to have lower carbon emissions than conventional fuel.

Globally, McDonald's intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its restaurants and offices by 36% by 2030. Learnings from the solar-powered restaurant will be applied to those efforts. The chain will also apply for a zero energy certification from the International Living Future Institute for the restaurant.

In 2020, McDonald's unveiled a brand new solar-powered restaurant at Disney World, Orlando. Designed by Chicago-based Ross Barney Architects and Florida-based architectural and engineering firm CPH, the 8,024 square foot restaurant is covered in solar panels and features eco-friendly design features that minimize energy use and keep the building naturally cool.

O2O Commerce Firm Dotpe Enables McDonalds India (North & East) for Contactless Ordering

  • DotPe is currently live across all outlets in Delhi NCR
  • Plans to enable select restaurants across North and East regions by August end

With restaurants and QSRs operating under specific safety guidelines issued by the government, social distancing and safe dining have become key concerns for all the operators. To help their customers avoid queues and to enable convenience ordering, Gurgaon-based O2O commerce and fintech platform DotPe has partnered with McDonald’s India – North and East.

The platform is currently offering its digital ordering solutions fully integrated with a payment gateway in all the restaurants of McDonald’s across Delhi NCR.

A technology startup, DotPe provides neo digital transformation and commerce solutions to restaurants and F&B brands. By offering its QR code & WhatsApp based SCAN-ORDER-PAY solution with direct communication & digital ordering management technology, it can assist restaurants to ensure streamlined business operations while following the social distancing norms and make customers feel safe through minimal human intervention while ordering and settling their bill.

As part of its association with McDonald’s India – North and East, DotPe has placed QR code across all key restaurants, whereas the store managers will be guiding the customers on how to use it.

Customers can scan the QR code prominently displayed in the restaurants from their mobile phones and can view the menu through their phone browsers just like an e-commerce catalogue. The customers can order from the catalogue while remaining seated and can make the payment through the phone using any medium including UPI, PayTM, Google Pay or Card. The order-related communication will further take place over the customer’s WhatsApp number, from the WhatsApp business account of McDonald’s. Once the order is ready, customers can simply pick up their order from the counter as takeaway or dine-in in the restaurant.

Speaking on the association, Shailaz Nag, Co-Founder and CEO, DotPe said, “Since social distancing is the new normal, customer safety remains the prime importance for every restaurant and brand. By using our QR Code & WhatsApp based Scan Order Pay solution, customers can avoid multiple human interventions, maintain social distancing norms and safety while dining in and/or ordering takeaways. We are quite thrilled to team up with McDonald’s. We are confident in seeing significant business upticks, given the relevance of our solution to the current times.’’

Speaking on the association, Mr. Robert Hunghanfoo, Head, CPRL (Connaught Plaza Restaurants Pvt.
