Plans are afoot to showcase select coins from the collection for public viewing at the Lucknow Museum. The Hinduja Foundation’s numismatic collection today comprises over 34,000 historically significant coins, including around 7,000 from North India and nearly 4,200 from Uttar Pradesh alone. The core aim of the Hinduja Foundation’s book is to comprehensively present the vast wealth of India’s heritage through the collection of its ancient coins, which help students, collectors, and curious minds understand India’s glorious yet often forgotten heritage and history.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, said,
Understanding and preserving history is a national responsibility, and I commend the Hinduja Foundation for this remarkable initiative. The book sheds light on the economic, cultural and political fabric of early North India and highlights the importance of preserving the region’s historical heritage for future generations. This book not only chronicles India’s heritage but also underscores the enduring contributions of our civilisation to world history, making it an invaluable resource.

Speaking at the launch event, Mr. Ashok P. Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Foundation, said,
I extend my sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath ji, for unveiling this important volume, and supporting the plan for public display of these coins at the museum in Lucknow. The incursions of foreign influence throughout history across India had disrupted society and led to loss of precious artifacts and historical records and with that the loss of our heritage and cultural roots. With a 110- year legacy rooted in India, the Hinduja family has always seen itself as a custodian of the country’s cultural and civilisational heritage. Thus, through the Hinduja Foundation’s numismatic collection and the book, we are committed to preserving India’s legacy.

Mr. Raman Kalyanakrishnan, CEO, Hinduja Foundation, said,
This publication marks an important step in introducing a significant part of North India’s glorious heritage to the public. By showcasing these coins, we enable scholars, students and the wider public to engage with India’s early civilisations first-hand, while ensuring that this heritage is carried forward for future generations. The Hinduja Foundation is committed to preserving, promoting, and fostering the artistic and cultural heritage of India.

The book features an extraordinary variety of coin shapes, metals, and symbols, with images of gods, temples, and early depictions of deities such as Kārttikeya, Śiva, and Lakṣmī. Drawing on archaeological discoveries and relevant parts of the Hinduja Foundation’s collection, it explains how coins offer clues to trade, power, religion, and daily life, making the subject easy to understand and engaging for anyone interested in India’s early history.

The Hinduja Foundation played a pivotal role in enabling this publication by supporting research, providing access to its extensive collection, and funding the project, with the majority of the featured coins drawn from the Foundation’s collection. Building on the earlier work, this publication reinforces the Foundation’s continued commitment to preserving India’s heritage and promoting scholarship, reflecting the Hinduja Family’s enduring dedication to cultural knowledge across generations.

Hinduja Group Initiates Rs 4300 Cr Plan for Acquiring Reliance Capital

Hinduja Group Initiates Rs 4300 Cr Plan for Acquiring Reliance Capital

The Hinduja Group has initiated a significant ₹4,300 crore (~$51.47 million) plan for the acquisition of Anil Ambani-led Reliance Capital. Hinduja Group's IndusInd International Holdings (IIHL) received approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for the acquisition of Reliance Capital.

The bankruptcy court NCLT Mumbai approved IndusInd International Holdings' resolution plan for acquiring Reliance Capital in February. Notably, the Hinduja Group entity submitted its ₹9,650 crore bid for the company just 24 hours after the auction deadline in December 2022.

To close the acquisition, IndusInd International Holdings (IIHL) is raising funds through a non-convertible debenture (NCD) issue. IIHL requested a 90-day extension beyond the original deadline of May 27, 2024, to arrange necessary regulatory approvals and secure funding. The debt includes both domestic market sources and global private credit funds.

As of the March 2024 quarter, Anil Ambani's family remains listed as promoters in the Reliance Group company. Anil Ambani himself holds no shares, while his wife Tina owns 2,63,474 shares, and their son Jai Anmol Ambani holds 28,487 Reliance Capital stocks.

Reliance Capital is currently undergoing the corporate insolvency resolution process, with Nageswara Rao Y appointed as administrator by the Reserve Bank of India under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

The acquisition includes taking over Reliance Capital's insurance arms: wholly-owned subsidiary Reliance General Insurance and the 51:49 joint venture with Nippon Life, known as Reliance Nippon Life Insurance.

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved IIHL's ₹9,650 crore resolution plan for Reliance Capital. The implementation is pending approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the proposed corporate restructuring of implementing entities.

Reliance Capital had a debt of over ₹40,000 crore. IIHL's bid of ₹9,661 crore upfront cash was selected by the committee of creditors. Additionally, Reliance Capital's cash balance of an extra ₹500 crore will go to the lenders.

The acquisition has received approvals from banking and capital markets regulators, as well as the Competition Commission of India (CCI). However, the IRDAI expressed certain concerns, including potential violations of foreign direct investment caps in insurance companies and reliance on borrowings for the acquisition.

Overall, the acquisition process is progressing, subject to regulatory clearances and compliance.

Besides Reliance Capital, an another Anil Ambani led company, Reliance Naval and Engineering (RNEL), was taken over by Mumbai-headquartered business house Swan Group's Swan Energy Limited, in January this year. Swan Energy acquired erstwhile Anil Ambani group company Reliance Naval & Engineering (RNEL), in December 2022.

Ashok Leyland Accelerates the Green Mobility Agenda: Receives India’s 1st LNG Fuel Truck CMVR Certificate

Ashok Leyland Accelerates the Green Mobility Agenda: Receives India’s 1st LNG Fuel Truck CMVR Certificate

Ashok Leyland, flagship company of the Hinduja Group and India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, today received India’s first LNG Fueled Truck Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) certificate for AVTR UF3522 and its variants from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).

As part of Green Mobility push, Ashok Leyland presents the AVTR UF3522 – India’s first certified LNG fueled truck – completely validated and optimized for Indian operating conditions.

Intensifying efforts in the alternative fuel segment, the AVTR UF3522 is the next step to expand the offerings. Through thorough R&D, the truck has been validated to work on optimal capacity for the Indian operating conditions. LNG is being considered as the future of the natural gas economy offering lower on-road total carbon emissions as compared to its counterparts like CNG, which will be a step towards India’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2027.

Dr. N Saravanan, Chief Technology Officer, Ashok Leyland said, “We are proud to bring to India the first LNG fueled truck, completely developed in and for India. As a part of our green mobility agenda, we aim to bring alternative fuel based vehicles which can provide same efficiency and range as our ICE models. AVTR UF3522 is an effort to bring clean and safe vehicle to all our stakeholders. Our LNG vehicle is based on our proven modular truck platform – AVTR along with H6 engine to provide better range and operability across all functions and industries.”

The Torque of the new LNG truck has been retained from the diesel variants of Ashok Leyland which ensures no loss in drivability across applications. LNG trucks have three times the fuel capacity as compared to CNG, thus providing a longer range. Along with that, the truck provides an option of double LNG tank, providing highest ever mileage of 1500 plus kilometers in a single fill.

AVTR , India’s first modular platform, has helped Ashok Leyland quickly derive LNG trucks as the platform enables key principles of standard interfaces. The LNG truck can be further expanded for multiple purposes and applications ranging from 19 ton to 42 ton. Ashok Leyland will be launching the complete variants of LNG and CNG trucks in haulage, tipper and tractor segment over the next six months.

Some of the salient features of the LNG AVTR UF 3522 truck are:
  • Based on proven H6 Engine platform
  • Integration to the AVTR modular platform with 80% common with diesel parts and applicability across segments from 19T to 42T
  • 220hp 700Nm engine with torque matching the diesel driveability for Indian operating conditions
  • Patented* double tank option giving a max range of 1500+kms in single fill
  • Higher Oil change interval at 20K kms
