Bharat Taxi Rolls Out in Rajasthan, Cooperative Mobility Gets a Boost

Aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahakar Se Samriddhi” and under the leadership of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah, a major step was taken today to transform India’s mobility sector through cooperation, technology, and inclusive growth. Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma launched the Bharat Taxi service at the Harish Chandra Mathur Rajasthan State Institute of Public Administration in Jaipur.

The programme in Jaipur concluded with the flagging off of a Bharat Taxi fleet of 60 cabs, 20 bikes, and 20 autos, alongside MoUs with Rajasthan Police, Saras, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, and Jaipur Metro to integrate the service with public infrastructure.

Bharat Taxi is India’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform where drivers, called Sarathis, are not just service providers but co-owners, shareholders, and profit participants. It has already launched in Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and most recently Rajasthan, with plans to expand to 500+ cities nationwide.

The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Cooperation Shri Murlidhar Mohol, Rajasthan Minister of State for Cooperation Shri Gautam Kumar Dak, Jaipur MP Smt Manju Sharma, Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Principal Secretary Dr. Samit Sharma, senior officials, cooperative representatives, and Sarathis of Bharat Taxi.

Speaking at the launch, Shri Murlidhar Mohol highlighted Bharat Taxi as one of the Ministry’s new initiatives that has expanded the reach of cooperation beyond credit societies into agriculture, dairy, fisheries, insurance, exports, digital services, and now transportation. He noted that Rajasthan has historically played a pioneering role in the cooperative movement, with nearly 42,000 societies and 1.35 crore members today.

Unlike private aggregator models, Bharat Taxi empowers drivers as Sarathis—members, shareholders, and co-owners entitled to board representation and profit-sharing. With nearly 8 lakh Sarathis and 41 lakh customers nationwide, the platform completes 11,000 trips daily, directly crediting earnings to drivers’ accounts.

After Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, Rajasthan marks the next phase of Bharat Taxi’s national rollout, with plans to expand to 500 cities. Shri Mohol expressed confidence that Rajasthan will set a benchmark for safe, reliable, and cooperative-based mobility.

Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma called Bharat Taxi a transformative initiative that advances “Sahakar Se Samriddhi” by creating dignified livelihoods and local economic opportunities. He emphasized that Sarathis are not just drivers but co-owners, with accident insurance cover, profit-sharing, and a stake in the institution’s growth. He added that Bharat Taxi will also boost Rajasthan’s tourism sector by providing last-mile connectivity to metro networks, forts, palaces, wildlife sanctuaries, and desert destinations.

Rapido Partners with DMRC to Offer Seamless First and Last-Mile Connectivity for Delhi Metro Users

Rapido, India’s largest ride-sharing platform, has partnered with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to enhance first and last-mile connectivity for metro commuters in Delhi. Effective April 4, 2025, metro passengers can now seamlessly book doorstep pick-up and drop-off services through Rapido’s bike taxi and auto network, integrated with their metro rides.

The partnership was formally launched at Metro Bhawan, Delhi, as part of the ‘Integrated Journeys’ initiative on the DMRC Saarthi Momentum 2.0 App, aimed at enhancing metro connectivity. Rapido Filed the Bike Taxi Legality Application to the State Transport Authority and Plans To Onboard 100 Women Captains in Bangalore

The Karnataka High Court at Bangalore in a recent case filed by a leading transport aggregator has observed that under the law, a motorcycle taxi can be used for hire on which a passenger could be carried on pillion. Court further observed that a motorcycle taxi has been categorized as a transport vehicle by the Central Government under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Therefore, in light of the provisions under law, the Court allowed various aggregators, to make their respective applications to the relevant State Road Transport Authority for renting of motorcycle/taxi service for hire.

Rapido has also filed its application with the State Transport Authority for motorcycle/taxi service and is looking forward to a positive response. Rapido is working very closely with various state governments and is open to working with Karnataka Government to frame guidelines for regulating the same.

Amritsar based eBikeGo Rental Startup Raises $300K in Funding led by Startup Buddy

eBikeGO, an electric two wheeler rental start up has raised $300,000 as part of its recent funding round led by Startup Buddy.

The round also saw participation from other investors like Singer Sukhbir Singh, Rajesh Sawhney (Co-Founder of Innerchef), Rohit Chanana (Founder, Sarcha Advisory), Siddartha Ahluwalia (Founder of 100x Entrepreneur), Boudhik Ventures, Milind Garud, Arun Gholap, Shantanu Vinekar and other senior corporate executives.

Amritsar based eBikeGo is now expanding to four other cities Mumbai , Bangalore , Hyderabad and Pune with the increasing demand and also increasing their fleet in cities they are already in. Founded in 2015 by Shravya Reddy, Getbike offers services to a number of clients from industries such as pharmaceuticals, food and e-commerce. It has tied up with hospital chain Apollo Healthcare, online marketing platform Limetray and L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd, among others.

The acquisition will help Rapido enter Hyderabad by leveraging on infrastructure and market presence of Getbike, which has over 50 bikes and 108 riders including female riders.

As part of the acquisition deal, Getbike gounder Shravya will move to Rapido and head B2B operations at its head office on Bangalore. Shravya had previously worked with Reliance Communications and and Apalya Technologies.

Getbike began as a bike taxi operator, with brand name 'Getmi', for both individual commuters and corporate clients in 2015. However, it later re-branded to 'GetBike' and shifted its focus to the B2B sector. The startup had previously raised $100,000 in angel funding from a group of investors including Vamshi Reddy B, an angel investor and co-founder of Apalya Technologies, and investor Venu Veeramaneni.

Speaking about Rapido, the startup was founded in November 2015 by Aravind Sanka, Pavan G and Rishikesh Sr. It last raised funding of $21.4 million from Skycatcher, Thompson Taraz, in November 2017. Prior to that, it had received undisclosed amount of funding in pre-series A from a set of investors, including Hero MotoCorp Chairman Pawan Munjal and Google India head Rajan Anandan.\

To recall, Indonesian bike taxi startup Go-Jek, which offers hyperlocal transport, logistics and payment services, is also planning to launch its bike-taxi service in India in the second half of 2018.

Indonesian Unicorn Startup Go-Jek To Enter India To Launch Bike Taxi Service

Indonesian unicorn startup Go-Jek, which offers hyperlocal transport, logistics and payment services, is planning to launch its bike-taxi service in India in the second half of 2018, reported Economic Times, citing people aware of the development said.

To launch its bike taxi services, Go-Jek is is evaluating some southern cities, possibly Bengaluru, and the Gurugram-NCR region and it may launch a pilot in one of these cities at the end of this year.

The report further said that a big chunk of the Go-Jek's most recent fundraise, which is pegged at approximately $1.2 billion, will be allocated towards expansion plans into developing markets like India.

The funraising the report is referring to is a follow-on round from 2017. Just yesterday, Indonesian conglomerate Astra International announced that it will invest $150 million in Go-Jek, joining the likes of Google and Temasek Holdings in the ride-hailing start-up's latest round of fundraising pegged at approximately US $1.2 billion.

With Ola and Uber’s core focus not being on bike taxis, Go-Jek has the scope to enter and dominate the market over time. The company is evaluating an India entry later this year, said the Economic Times report.

According to the sources quoted in the report, Go-Jek has less to no scope for its bike-taxi service in developed countries but sees India as a huge opportunity. The company is likely to explore state government partnerships with select cities that do not have strict regulations where bike taxis are concerned.

It should be noted that although Go-Jek has yet to start its services in India, the company officially launched its India operations in November 2016 when it opened its engineering facility in Bengaluru that also serves as its headquarters in the India. Situated in the heart of Bengaluru city, this facility also become the training centre for hundreds of GO-JEK engineers both from Indonesia and India.

Notably, Go-Jek has also acquired four startups from India including Bangalore-based Pianta, a home healthcare services startup, in September 2016 followed by acquisition of Leftshift, a Pune based mobile application developer that specialized in designing and engineering mobile applications for popular start-ups such as BookMyShow and Walnut.

Founded in 2011 by Harvard graduate Nadiem Makarim, GO-JEK is currently the fastest growing start-up in South Asia and the largest in Indonesia in terms of valuation.
