Kaspersky Launches Online Course For Improving Skills for Responding to Cyberattacks Including Ransomware



According to the recent Kaspersky survey conducted among senior non-IT management and business owners, 73% of firms can’t handle a ransomware attack alone or with the help of regular IT service providers. To offer in-house cybersecurity teams and InfoSec professionals an opportunity to expand their analytical skills in the incident response domain, Kaspersky has designed a new Windows Incident Response training course.

Over recent years the lack of skilled technical staff who can detect and respond to complex incidents, along with a lack of visibility across infrastructure and consistent management, have been the biggest challenges for businesses in dealing with complicated cyber threats.

The recent global study by Kaspersky titled “How do business executives perceive ransomware threat?”[1] confirms that most firms (73%) will have to seek the help of external incident response providers’ in the event of a ransomware attack. This is despite the fact that 73% of respondents from APAC consider there to be a high possibility of these attacks on their organization.

It is also likely that companies who have never experienced a ransomware attack overestimate the skills of their regular security providers and in-house IT teams. The statistics show that organizations that have previously been exposed to such threats rely less on their existing resources.

Kaspersky Launches Online Course Aimed at Improving Skills for Responding to Cyberattacks Including Ransomware

For companies looking to improve the expertise of their in-house digital forensics and incident response teams, as well as for IT security practitioners looking to upgrade relevant skills, Kaspersky has expanded its online expert training portfolio. The Windows Incident Response training was developed by experts from the company’s Global Emergency Response Team (GERT) with more than 12 years’ experience in the field.

During the course, which is heavily focused on practical skills, Ayman Shaaban, Digital Forensics and Incident Response Manager and Kai Schuricht, Senior Incident Response Specialist, will take students through incident detection using the example of a real-life REvil ransomware case.

By the end of the course IT security practitioners will know how to identify and respond to a cyberincident and will be able to differentiate APTs from other threats, as well as studying various attack techniques and a targeted attack anatomy through the Cyber Kill Chain. Participants will master evidence acquisition, all phases of incident detection, log file analysis, network analysis and the creation of IoCs, and also get introduced to memory forensics.

Students will be granted access to a simulated virtual working environment with all the necessary tools, including ELK stack, PowerShell, Suricata, YARA, and more, to practice IR techniques.

Online PG Diploma on Cyber Law, Crime Investigation and Digital Forensics Launched by National e-Governance Division and NLIU Bhopal



National e-Governance Division (NeGD) in partnership with National Law Institute University, Bhopal, launched an Online PG Diploma programme on ‘Cyber Law, Crime Investigation & Digital Forensics’ on 9th November 2020, at 2:00 PM.

This initiative will offer a nine-month Online PG Diploma Course in Cyber Law, Crime Investigation & Digital Forensics to about 1000 officials through NeGD’s Digital Learning Management System (LMS) in collaboration with NLIU Bhopal under the “Digital India Programme”.The goal of this Programme is to enable Police Officers, State Cyber Cells, Law Enforcement Agencies, Prosecutors and Judicial Officers to acquire the requisite skills to deal with Cyber Forensics cases efficiently & effectively as per the Indian Cyber Law while adopting global best practices, standards and guidelines. A Cyber Forensics Lab is being established in the premises of National Law University (NLU) Delhi for facilitating this course. Other law schools/ universities like National Law School of India University (Bangalore), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (Patiala) etc., will also be involved in the Programme in future.

Shri M S Rao-Chief Secretary and State Vigilance Commissioner-Govt of Meghalaya complimented MeitY, NeGD, NLIU, Bhopal, National Judicial Academy and said that this course will be extremely useful to the Law Enforcement Agencies. He added that in the times of the pandemic, there had been an increase of nearly 60% in Cyber cases between 2018 and 2019. He elaborated that one of the positive fallouts of COVID-19 was increase in use of Digital Technology; he said that this however, had led to a rise in the number of cybercrime cases and highlighted the following challenges:

Shri Rao said that location and identification of Cybercriminals was an issue along with delayed response from Service Providers; lack of timely information hampers investigation; location of data in servers outside the country etc. He added that knowledge, technology and tools were much needed to cope with increased sophistication in cybercrime. In his concluding remarks, Shri Rao added that in addition to use of Technologies and Capacity Building, creating general awareness among citizens were critical drivers for this Programme.

Dr.Vijaykumar-Vice-Chancellor-NLIU-Bhopal said that business dynamics and technology challenges played a major role in handling Cybercrime Cases which has been the major driver in designing the course in collaboration with Experts and Academia along with NeGD.

Hon’ble Justice Raghuram-Director, National Judicial Academy said that Investigational expertise along with well-trained prosecutors and requirement of Higher technical education and cpntinuouscapacibity building of Judges was much needed to handle Cybercrimes. Dr Gulshan Rai- Ex-National Cyber Security Co-ordinator-PMO emphasized that  the course has been designed to maintain the balance of Technology and the importance of practical scenarios.

Secretary- Ministry of Law - Anoop Kumar Mendritta emphasized the increased participation of Prosecution and Judicial officers and need to move towards Data Investigation from Data Governance to increase the Disposal Rate. He said that 22% of cases are disposed of due to lack of evidence with high pendency and low conviction rate which requires increased participation. He pointed out that there was a complete mismatch between Investigation and Judicial officers which will be addressed by creating a pool of Digital forensic Experts and increased Academic collaboration.

Secretary-MeitY-Shri Ajay Sawhneyinaugurated the Programme and said that this Dream Curriculum is a first of its kind designed after consultation with many experts in collaboration with Academia and a state-of-the-art Forensic lab playing a role in imparting skillsets to all officers and this was just the beginning of Skill and Capacity Building in Cybercrime in future.

This MoU will also help Asian students especially Indian subcontinent to get global level new age specialized PGP qualification (an MBA equivalent) rather than settling for a conventional MBA at hefty fees with average placements.

iMET stands for innovation, Mentorship, Entrepreneurship, and Talent building-- is a part of Pradurbhav Foundation for Skills & Social Development. Its emerging skills arm - iMET’s School of Digital Social Media & IoT was formally launched on April 2, 2011 at IIT Delhi. Chennai headquartered global startup Skill-lync announces the launch of a special masters course in Electric Vehicle Design and simulation. The startup provides job leading courses for Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering students in India and across the world. This special course is the first such curriculum in India which focuses on Electric Vehicles (EV). With colleges shut and students looking to make the most of the time that they are at home the startup has fast tracked the development of this program and releasing it amid Covid-19.

The cost of the special course would be Rs. 2,75,000 and has two types of duration for students thinking of opting for a full time or part-time option. 

Officially founded in April 2018 by Sarangarajan V(CTO) and Suryanarayanan P(CEO), both had their  first hand impact due to the lack of quality and application based learning in the Indian undergraduate education system. Skill-Lync was earlier started out as a YouTube channel to share engineering tips, but today it is an online training course for mechanical engineering candidates. It operates three different types of courses, ranging from one-off modules to full-time curriculums.

Understanding that there is a significant skill gap similar to Mechanical Engineering in other nonsoftware engineering domains, the company’s focus is to help non-software engineers accelerate their career. This is important, because in India more than 70% of engineers are non-software engineers. This represents 5.6 million new engineers who are currently pursuing their engineering degree. Skill- Lync’s content generation engine, technical support engine and student success engine is setup to address the needs of non-software engineering students accelerate their careers.

Amidst Covid, Skill-lync’s YouTube channel, which contains free technical webinars and explanations on short technical concepts, saw 6-fold growth in viewership as compared to last month. The interesting thing is not only did they see traffic coming in from India, but had users signing up for the course from US, Europe and Asia. US contributed to more than 10% of their website traffic. 85% of this total traffic is coming from Asia, 10% from Americas and 4% from Europe. A vast number of students are applying from countries like Pakistan, UAE, South Korea, Saudi, Singapore, Japan & China for the courses. 

In Americas, 92% of the students came from US, the remaining majorly from Canada, Brazil & Mexico. Students from US have been Skill-lync’s second highest demography of premium subscribers followed by Europe.
