Freshworks Makes Its Ninth Acquisition, Buys Marketing Software Provider Zarget

Freshworks, the leading provider of cloud-based business software, today announced the acquisition of Zarget, a leading marketing software startup that provides marketers and designers with a suite of Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) tools helping them understand how users interact with their websites. This is the ninth acquisition made by Freshworks over the last two years and will help the company focus on building marketing solutions for businesses of all sizes. In July 2017, Freshworks acquired Gurgaon-based Joe Hukum, a platform that helps businesses build their own chatbots.

Zarget’s robust CRO tools help businesses increase orders, customer interactions and signups on their website by providing user metrics and data driven insights. Marketers can take informed decisions based on the insights gained through A/B Testing, Heatmaps, Session Recording, Polls & Feedback and much more. Through this acquisition, Freshworks seeks to further develop Zarget’s marketing suite and provide the team with expertise, technology and operations as well as access to over 120,000 customers.

“At Freshworks, our ambition is to emerge as the de facto cloud-based business software platform for businesses of all sizes,” said Girish Mathrubootham, CEO & Founder of Freshworks. “A growing number of our customers have been asking us to help them in their marketing initiatives. Today, our software powers customer engagement across every aspect of the customer journey, from customer acquisition to customer support. Acquiring Zarget will enable Freshworks to support customers with the pre-acquisition journey as well and truly transform the way our customers attract and engage with their prospective customers. Also, I have known the Zarget team for many years and I am personally thrilled to have them join the Freshworks family and power our expansion into the marketing software category.”

According to Gartner, marketing leaders allocate 27% of their expense budget to technology, equal to 3.24% of overall revenue, compared with CIO technology spend of 3.4% of revenue. Gartner also predicts that CMOs will spend more on technology than CIOs by end of 2017, further underlining the opportunity for marketing software and technology vendors.

“We are excited to join Freshworks and it's an incredible honor to be part of a company that has been our role model in many ways. We built Zarget to help marketers make informed decisions on their online properties without the need for deep technical resources or large budgets. Together with Freshworks, we expect to accelerate the digital marketing evolution and help our customers further transform the way they market with combined expertise and solutions,” said Arvind Parthiban, CEO and Co-founder of Zarget.

Zarget was founded in 2015 by Arvind Parthiban, Naveen Venkat and Santosh Kumar with an angel investment from Freshworks founder Girish Mathrubootham and some of the early Freshdesk employees who were friends of the Zarget founders. Over the next two years, Zarget went on to raise $7.5M in 2 rounds of funding from Accel Partners, Matrix Partners India and Sequoia Capital India. As part of the deal, the angel investors received only their initial investments back without any additional financial returns to avoid any conflict of interest.

For Zarget customers, there will be no impact on their services and Freshworks will continue to support them. Freshworks had announced the acquisition of Joe Hukum last month and with the addition of Zarget, the company continues to focus on building a refreshing suite of SaaS products following its rebrand from Freshdesk earlier this year.

Matrix Partners-Backed Zarget Raises $6M in Series A Funding Led by Sequoia

Zarget, a SaaS-based marketing automation platform, has announced that it has raised a $6 million Series A round of funding, led by Sequoia India, with participation from existing investors Matrix Partners India and Accel. The company plans to use the funds to scale its marketing automation products and help small businesses easily optimize their web presence in real-time without any coding skills required.

Zarget was founded in 2015 by three seasoned SaaS entrepreneurs, Arvind Parthiban, Naveen Venkat, and Santhosh Kumar, who spent a decade at Zoho building business productivity tools and customer relationship management software. The company has now raised $7.5 million to date from global venture capital firms Sequoia Capital, Matrix Partners India and Accel Partners.

With Zarget’s all-in-one platform, any business owner has an easy and affordable way to become an effective digital marketer and improve performance of their websites instantly, without learning how to code or hiring an expensive IT department. Zarget offers all of the capabilities of competing solutions and more – including A/B testing, dynamic heatmaps, funnel analysis, form analytics, user polls and feedback – but at 10% of the cost and is backed by exceptional 24/7 customer support.

Best of all, businesses gain access to the industry’s first Chrome plugin that lets them make changes instantly from within the browser. This eliminates the kind of complexity and costs that are typically only available for large enterprise teams. Starting as low as 50 cents per day, any small business owner or digital marketer can instantly turn their website into a visualization dashboard for marketing automation, optimization and testing, and gather actionable insights needed to make critical improvements on the fly.

"Just a few years ago, I was a marketer facing the same challenges affecting marketers today – desperate to improve my campaigns in real-time, but without the tools, IT skills, or budget to make it happen efficiently. Our aim is to make it easy and affordable for any person or business to access the solutions they need to increase engagement and drive revenue across their websites,” said Arvind Parthiban, co-founder & CEO, Zarget. “Our investors believed in our vision, and we're proud to deliver on the industry's first Chrome plug-in that allows anyone to become a savvy digital marketer in a matter of days, without learning a single line of code."

“Zarget has an exceptionally talented team of product engineers who’ve spent the past 10 years developing customer relationship management business automation software that’s already in use by leading enterprises today,” said Shailesh Lakhani, Managing Director, Sequoia India. “We’re excited to back a team with such proven capabilities and believe their marketing platform will become an essential fixture within the SMB marketplace for many years to come.”

"Today, marketers are swamped with several fragmented optimization solutions with poor integration capabilities. Zarget offers the foremost integrated platform that provides small-and-medium businesses a comprehensive and affordable way to scale conversions with a superior customer experience," said Tarun Davda, Managing Director, Matrix India. "We've been very impressed by the traction they've gathered so far, and we look forward to continue working with the team to help them expand into new markets and build a broader stable of marketing automation products."

In addition to the latest round, Zarget is announcing recent growth and customer traction with more than 1,000 customers in 10 countries in just four months since launch, including leading brands like Landesk in the US, BizTalk360 in the UK, and Buscape in Brazil.

"Zarget’s A/B testing and HeatMaps made it easy and affordable for us to launch experiments and make the proper decisions to improve our customer experience,” said Anand Krishnamoorthy, CEO of Wedtree, an online store for wedding gifts. “Although we did not have the resources of a full-fledged marketing team, we were able to create page variants quickly, with the confidence of knowing exactly what to do. As an example, after replacing the product category images with the individual products we saw a powerful spike with clickthrough rates increasing by a whopping 54%.”

Accel and Matrix Partners Invests $1.5M Seed Round in SaaS Startup Zarget

Zarget, a SaaS-based Conversion Rate Optimization company, has raised $1.5 million in seed funding from global venture capital firms Accel Partners and Matrix Partners, and angel investors such as, Girish Mathrubootham, CEO of Freshdesk. The startup has also announced the launch of the Zarget platform, the industry’s first conversion rate optimization software built as a simple-to-use Chrome plugin.

The new platform is a much needed solution for firms that previously used multiple software products to complete A/B testing, funnel analysis, and heatmaps. Zarget provides all of these tools in one platform with the added simplicity of a Chrome plugin, so users no longer need to waste time and valuable resources loading websites into an application.

The Zarget platform is purposely built for eCommerce and SaaS companies and intended for use by marketers, product managers and web designers who now have a single tool to manage site content and performance through a simple Chrome plugin. Zarget was founded in 2015 by three ex-Zoho employees Arvind Parthiban, Naveen Venkat, and Santhosh Kumar.

The first tool to optimize beyond login pages, Zarget is ideal for improving checkout pages and various SaaS website tools without any of the related security vulnerabilities. Heatmap support for interactive design elements such as sliding banners, drop-down menus and HTML5 moving elements is a core Zarget feature. This allows users to track visitors in real time, instead of the “snapshot” approach used by competitors that cannot capture visitor activities on dynamic elements. Funnel analysis capabilities within Zarget allow companies to see where visitors are dropping off from the website by configuring multiple pages together.

“Zarget has developed a true product innovation in the field of conversion rate optimization and aims to help companies enhance their customer experience online. We are very impressed with the founding team’s prior experience in building and scaling products globally and it is our privilege to partner with Arvind, Naveen and Santosh to help them realize their vision.” said Tarun Davda, Managing Director, Matrix India.
