Microsoft and Atom Computing Partner to Bring New Generation of Reliable Quantum Hardware to Customers

Microsoft recently announced a significant milestone in quantum computing by demonstrating the best performing logical qubits on record. This achievement is part of their efforts to advance Azure Quantum, a platform designed to provide reliable quantum computing at scale.

In collaboration with Quantinuum, Microsoft created and entangled 12 highly reliable logical qubits, the largest number of entangled logical qubits with the highest fidelity recorded so far. This development is crucial as it addresses the noise and error issues prevalent in current quantum systems, making them more practical for real-world applications.

Additionally, Microsoft is integrating Atom Computing's neutral-atom hardware into Azure Quantum, further enhancing the platform's capabilities. This integration aims to bring best-in-class solutions to customers, enabling advanced hybrid quantum applications that could tackle complex challenges, from sustainable energy solutions to next-generation Therapeutics.

In collaboration with Atom Computing, Microsoft is bringing a new generation of reliable quantum hardware to customers. Bringing together it’s enhanced qubit-virtualization system with Atom Computing’s neutral-atom hardware, Microsoft has jointly generated logical qubits and are optimizing the system to enable reliable quantum computation. The companies believe that this new commercial offering will be the world’s most powerful quantum machine on record and will scale to scientific advantage and beyond.

The reliability of logical qubits is a critical factor in advancing quantum computing. Logical qubits are constructed from multiple physical qubits and are designed to be more robust against errors.

Integrating different types of quantum hardware, such as neutral-atom hardware from Atom Computing, into platforms like Azure Quantum can further enhance reliability. These hybrid systems combine the strengths of various technologies to create more robust and versatile quantum solutions.

One of the main advantages of neutral-atom technology is its potential for scalability. Atom Computing has demonstrated arrays with over 100 qubits, and their systems are designed to scale up to thousands of qubits.

Logical qubits use error-correcting codes to detect and correct errors that occur in physical qubits. This process significantly reduces the error rates, making computations more reliable. The fidelity of a qubit refers to how accurately it can represent quantum information. Higher fidelity means fewer errors and more reliable operations. Microsoft’s recent achievement with 12 highly reliable logical qubits represents a significant improvement in fidelity.

Entangling multiple logical qubits increases their computational power and reliability. The entanglement of 12 logical qubits by Microsoft and Quantinuum is a record-setting achievement that enhances the stability and performance of quantum systems.

Over this past year, Microsoft has announced new breakthroughs and collaborations in pursuit of this platform mission, including offering Generative Chemistry and Accelerated DFT and advancing the industry to reliable quantum computing by demonstrating highly reliable logical qubits.

Microsoft Using AI to Make People’s Workday More Productive

Writing requires a dash of uniquely human creativity. Artificial intelligence alone cannot do it for us, at least not very well. But AI can – and already is – helping us do things like make sure we spell words correctly and use correct grammar, through the myriad ways it is infused across the suite of Microsoft 365 products. Some of them were even used to craft this story.

As the AI in these products is becoming more sophisticated, they are helping us do more than spot a misspelled word.

That includes new intelligent features in Microsoft Word that help us design our documents for maximum readability, along with other features in Microsoft Search and Microsoft Edge that aim to make everybody’s workday more productive. Microsoft showcased these intelligent features today at Microsoft Build, an annual conference for developers, in Seattle.

Microsoft 365 uses AI to help employees overcome some of the realities of modern work, including increasing time demands, overwhelming amounts of data and growing security threats, she noted.

Gathering knowledge

Beginning on May 28, Microsoft Search will move to general availability, the company announced at Build. The technology brings access to the web and work into a single search experience.

New intelligence in Microsoft Search includes a machine reading comprehension capability that can extract a paragraph from documents explicitly related to your question. For example, if an employee asks, “Can I bring my dog to work?” Microsoft Search will extract the relevant paragraph from the human resources manual and present it as a search result.

Another new intelligent feature allows people within a company to conduct people searches with incomplete information. For example, consider being told, “Talk to Pat on the third floor,” and not knowing who Pat is. A search on “Pat, floor 3” uses intelligence from Microsoft Graph such as your immediate team and location to return the most likely Pat, including an office number and picture.

Working on Microsoft Edge

Microsoft, which recently announced plans to adopt the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop, also is working on ways to make the Edge browser a more natural extension of the Microsoft Search experience. That means users who are signed in to a Microsoft 365 account will be able to see related results within the Edge browser.

The Microsoft Edge team is also experimenting with a feature called Collections that allows users to compile and organize content as they browse the internet in their open browser window and intelligently share the compiled content via email or export it to Excel or Word.

Better Word documents

Beginning this fall, people working in Word Online who are in search of inspiration and insights on how to make their document better will be able to receive intelligent suggestions with Ideas – a feature that is already making people more productive in PowerPoint and Excel.

The Ideas in Word feature uses machine learning and intelligence from Microsoft Graph to help users write polished prose, create more professional documents and efficiently navigate documents created by others.

Other intelligent suggestions include recommended acronyms based on their usage in Microsoft Graph, calculated average time to read the document, highlight extraction, as well as familiar fixes for spelling and grammatical errors and advice on more concise and inclusive language such as “police officer” instead of “policeman."

Neural rewrites

A recently available intelligent feature in Word is rewrite suggestions, which brings the power of deep learning to offer suggestions on different ways to write a phrase.

The technology builds on enhancements to the popular synonyms feature in Word that use machine learning to understand the context of the sentence the word appears in to offer alternative word choices that are more relevant.

Microsoft Unveils 'Edge' To Replace Internet Explorer Browser

This farewell time has arrived because Microsoft, the giant behind Internet Explorer, has something bigger and better for all of us.

Called the Edge, the new web browser was kept under wraps as 'Project Spartan' so far.The new browser is expected to be lighter and much more faster than the Internet Explorer.

Microsoft Edge is Internet Explorer's replacement. The minimalistic "chrome-free" web browser is designed to put websites up front and dispense of everything else — including icons and menus that could potentially slow page loads.

On the top of all this, the new browser would come with some super amazing new features like a distraction free reading mode, a personal voice assistant app for windows, built-in notation tool and website information powered by Cortana.

"Microsoft Edge is the browser built for Windows 10, and it will be available on the widest range of Windows 10 devices," said Joe Belfiore, Corporate vice president, operating systems group,Microsoft, at Build 2015, a conference of developers.

Stating the reason behind the unique name, Belfiore said, "For us the name refers to the idea of being on the edge of consuming and creating."

"It refers to the developer notion of being closest to the modern capabilities of the Web," he added.

The browser will be different from all the current browsers as it will be able to understand what the user wants and give him/her exactly that. Edge with its built-in Cortana will have the capability to learn and understand the things that the user cares about. The browser would even help the user in getting those things done.
The software giant has already tested it a lot of times and is quite optimistic about its product this time.

Microsoft Edge hosts a new rendering engine, Microsoft EdgeHTML. This engine is focused on modern web standards, allowing web developers to build and maintain one consistent site that supports all modern browsers. This greatly simplifies the hard work of building first class web sites, allowing more time and energy for web developers to focus on reliability and security rather than the complexities of interoperability.

Further, the Edge would even give the users to try their hand at Web coding.
"Now, there's another big thing that we're doing in Microsoft Edge that has huge relevance to you.

"That is enabling users to engage with your sites and give you a shot at starting to write some Web code, which you may put into an app via Web extensions built into Microsoft Edge," Belfiore said.

Additionally, Microsoft Edge is also Microsoft's first web browser to have its voice assistant Cortana directly integrated. Speak naturally to Cortana about anything. Cortana can chat, get info, and do things for you.

Though Edge is a successor to the existing Internet Explorer but the software giant has decided to keep the latter for now. The new browser will only be available for Windows 10 and further.
