HAL-L&T’s First PSLV Slips to March 2027

HAL-L&T’s first PSLV slips to March 2027

India’s first industry-built PSLV, manufactured by HAL and L&T under a ₹860-crore contract, has been delayed again, with the maiden launch now expected in March 2027 instead of early 2026. This postponement marks another slip in ISRO’s push to privatize rocket production.

NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), ISRO’s commercial arm, signed a deal in 2022 with HAL and L&T for five PSLV‑XL rockets.

The PSLV rockets being built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) mark India’s first fully industry-manufactured launch vehicles, under a ₹860‑crore contract awarded by NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL) in 2022. This consortium is responsible for end‑to‑end production o f five PSLV‑XL units, shifting rocket manufacturing from ISRO to private industry.

It is to be noted however that the report of the PSLV postponement is currently limited to media reports, not ISRO’s press office. ISRO has issued several official press releases in August 2026, including a static test of an improved SSLV first stage (Aug 11), the India–U.S. Civil Space Joint Working Group meeting (Aug 5–6), and celebrations with NASA marking one year of the NISAR mission (Aug 4). None of these announcements mention the industry-built PSLV delay.

  • Original timeline: The first launch (PSLV-N1) was initially targeted for Q1 2026 after stacking began in December 2025.
  • Current schedule: Launch now expected March 2027, creating a long gap between assembly and flight.

Why the Delay?

  • No official reason disclosed: Neither NSIL, ISRO, HAL, nor L&T have publicly explained the latest postponement.
  • Possible contributing factors:
    • Vehicle integration and testing challenges
    • Payload readiness delays
    • Range availability at Satish Dhawan Space Centre
    • Mission-level reviews and quality control

Strategic Importance

  • Industrialization of PSLV: This project is a cornerstone of ISRO’s Indian Space Policy 2023, which formalized private-sector participation in launch vehicle manufacturing.
  • Shift in ISRO’s focus: By outsourcing PSLV production, ISRO aims to free resources for advanced missions (crewed flights, next-gen rockets).
  • Private sector ecosystem: The delay highlights the complexities of scaling private participation in India’s space sector, impacting investor confidence and commercial timelines.

LTM Launches AI1000 CoE to Build 1,000+ Forward Deployed Engineers for Enterprise AI Adoption

LTM, the Business Creativity partner to the world’s largest enterprises, today announced AI 1000, a strategic workforce transformation initiative anchored by a dedicated Center of Excellence (CoE). The program will develop a pool of 1,000+ AI-certified engineers, including Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), to help enterprises adopt, deploy, and scale AI.

The launch comes amid a major shift in enterprise tech talent. The FDE — among the fastest-growing roles in the AI ecosystem — combines the technical knowledge of LLMs and domain SLMs with business understanding to turn ideas into quantifiable ROI accretive outcomes and to drive client adoption. AI 1000 is LTM’s structured response to this shift: it provides the training, platforms, and governed career frameworks to develop FDEs at scale.

AI1000 takes an end-to-end approach to talent development via a four-stage model: Identify, Enable, Deploy, and Govern. It starts by identifying high-potential engineers using a proprietary AI Readiness Index. This is followed by curated learning journeys focused on AI-native skills and on validating capabilities through hackathons and real-world use cases. Qualified engineers are then deployed into AI programs.

A governance framework tracks performance, captures insights, and feeds its learnings back into the system. This creates a continuous cycle of capability building and growth. The CoE is supported by an integrated platform ecosystem for governing delivery with transparency, speed, and adaptability, better enabling our FDEs to achieve and measure business impact for clients.

“The role of the technology engineer is evolving rapidly. AI1000 is built with the purpose of enhancing workforce productivity in creating tangible business outcomes. Through the AI 1000 CoE, we are building structured pathways to develop the combination of technical excellence and domain expertise to enable this purpose — and prepare our talent for the future,” said Venu Lambu, CEO and Managing Director LTM.

With over 6.5 million learning hours, nearly 84% learning penetration, more than 15,000 external AI certifications, and more than 24,000 AI-trained associates, LTM has built a strong foundation for AI adoption. AI1000 formalizes these efforts into a structured, evidence-based program with defined role pathways, measurable milestones, and a governed deployment framework. Success will be measured not by the number of employees trained, but by the outcomes those engineers deliver.

Modi Showcases India’s First 700 MWe Nuclear Steam Generator at L&T Hazira

Modi Showcases India’s First 700 MWe Nuclear Steam Generator at L&T Hazira

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to L&T’s Hazira complex showcased India’s indigenous 700 MWe nuclear steam generator, a milestone in self-reliant energy manufacturing. This achievement, supported by NPCIL and complemented by BHEL’s contributions, strengthens India’s nuclear expansion under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

A nuclear steam generator is basically a giant kettle inside a nuclear power plant — it takes heat from the reactor and turns water into steam that spins turbines to make electricity. It’s one of the most critical parts of the system, but the principle is simple enough for everyday understanding.

Key Highlights of the Visit

  • Event: PM Modi visited L&T’s A. M. Naik Heavy Engineering Complex, Hazira (Gujarat) on 5 June 2026.
  • Showcased Equipment: A 700 MWe nuclear steam generator manufactured indigenously by L&T for NPCIL.
  • Significance: Reinforces India’s ability to design and produce critical nuclear components domestically, reducing reliance on imports.

What is a 700 MWe Steam Generator?

  • A steam generator is a giant heat exchanger inside nuclear reactors.
  • It transfers heat from the reactor core coolant to water, producing high-pressure steam that drives turbines to generate electricity.
  • These generators are designed for India’s 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs).

Role of L&T

  • L&T has dispatched seven 700 MWe steam generators ahead of schedule for NPCIL projects.
  • Manufactured at Hazira and Vadodara facilities, adhering to stringent safety standards.
  • Supports India’s fast-track nuclear programme and PM Modi’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Role of BHEL

  • BHEL has been a partner in India’s nuclear programme since 1976.
  • Recently secured a ₹1,405 crore order to supply 12 steam generators for NPCIL’s 700 MWe PHWR fleet mode programme.
  • BHEL’s Trichy plant has already dispatched its 42nd nuclear steam generator for NPCIL’s Rajasthan Atomic Power Project.
  • BHEL remains the only Indian company associated with all three stages of India’s nuclear programme.

National Nuclear Expansion

  • NPCIL operates 24 reactors (8,780 MW), with 13,100 MW under implementation.
  • Indigenous 700 MWe PHWRs are central to India’s target of 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047.
  • Each 700 MWe reactor generates ~5.2 billion units annually, avoiding 4.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
