IN-SPACe Announces Launch of Pre-Incubation Program (PIE) for Aspiring Space Startups

Recognizing the rising interest in space exploration among young entrepreneurs, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has launched the Pre-Incubation Entrepreneurship (PIE) Development Program, a pioneering initiative designed to support and nurture early-stage space startups. The PIE Development program will cultivate and empower the next generation of space tech innovators, providing them with the tools and guidance necessary to transform their space dreams into reality.

The 21-month program will guide aspiring entrepreneurs through a comprehensive journey divided into distinct phases of ideation, innovation, and prototype development. The program will ensure that budding entrepreneurs receive structured support at each critical stage of development.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “India's space sector is poised for exponential growth, and young entrepreneurs are crucial to driving this expansion. The PIE program will provide them with a launchpad, equipping them not only with technical expertise but also with the business acumen needed to navigate the complexities of the space industry. The early-stage support will help to unlock the potential of innovative minds and contribute to India's leadership in the global space industry."

The PIE Development Program will help young entrepreneurs transform their innovative ideas into prototypes by fostering a collaborative learning environment giving participants an opportunity to connect with and learn from seasoned mentors, handpicked from leading research institutions, incubators, academia, and prominent space industry players. This direct access to industry veterans and subject matter experts will provide invaluable insights, feedback, and networking opportunities. It will inculcate a culture of innovation in entrepreneurs, propelling scientific advancements that generate socio-economic benefits, contribute to broader economic development and create new job opportunities in India’s space sector.

As per guidelines of the program, applicants must be Indian citizens graduating in 2024 or already graduates, they should not have received any grants, funding, or monetary support from private or government schemes and all submissions must be original work to qualify for this program. Start-ups registered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on or after July 1, 2022, are classified as early-stage start-ups.

This program will target students in technical courses or those with a strong interest in space technology, expected to graduate in 2024, or pursuing Master's or Doctorate programs and early-stage start-ups focusing on space technologies and aiming to develop entrepreneurial ventures.

IN-SPACe invites aspiring space entrepreneurs and early-stage start-ups to apply for the PIE Development Program. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a transformative journey, gaining access to unparalleled resources, mentorship, and a platform to showcase their innovations. National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), a premier organization of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to develop a sustainable model for promoting entrepreneurship at the grass roots by initiating the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP).

SVEP  aims to support entrepreneurs in rural areas to set-up enterprises at the village-level in non-agricultural sectors. The partnership will enable the rural community by helping them set up their trades and provide complete support till they are stabilized. This pragmatic intervention will provide knowledge, advisory and financial support to the public and will help create village-level community cadre.

NIESBUD is an autonomous organization engaged in training, consultancy, research, etc. in order to promote entrepreneurship and Skill Development.

Under the partnership of NIESBUD and MoRD, rural entrepreneurs will be able to access banking systems for receiving financial support for starting their enterprises, including support from MUDRA bank. Integrated ICT techniques and tools will also be provided for training and capacity building along with enterprise advisory services to augment the entrepreneurship ecosystem in India’s villages.

Newly launched SVEP program will benefit the Self-Help Group (SHG) ecosystem of DAY-NRLM and the scheme not only supports existing enterprises but new enterprises as well.

In September last year, MSDE had announced its plans for implementing a project on entrepreneurship promotion and mentoring of micro and small enterprises in 6 temple towns of Puri, Varanasi, Haridwar, Kollur, Pandharpur and Bodh Gaya, to tap the entrepreneurial potential of first generation entrepreneurs, educated unemployed youth, school/college dropouts, women, youth from backward community etc.

On the partnership, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entreprenuership said that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has highlighted that Indians should dream of becoming job creators from job seekers and in this regard, SVEP will help create an innovative ecosystem, accelerating economic and social gains at the community level. He informed that the scheme also aims at building an inclusive society by providing equal opportunities to all along with the required financial support. Shri Aggarwal highlighted that India is a land of opportunities and by helping our youth access these prospects, we are catering to their aspirations.

He expressed his confidence that this partnership will help in training the rural community and will provide them with necessary resources for entrepreneurship to increase their income and will pave the way for building Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Shri Aggarwal stressed that rural entrepreneurship can play a significant role in the overall economic development of India and a huge number of employment opportunities can be generated because of the rural entrepreneurship for the people who are living in rural or remote geographies. The old-age artistic heritage has also been conserved by protecting as well as promoting the rural entrepreneurship, he added. He informed that from past few years, Skill India has been working persistently to bridge the skill gap by giving entrepreneurs easy access to funding, providing the right mentorship, and improving ease of doing business in the country.

Clever Harvey and Multiply Ventures Collaborate for 15-Day Entrepreneurship Course for High School Teenagers

15-Day Entrepreneurship Course for High School Teenagers
Mr. Sriram Subramanian - Cofounder, Clever Harvey

The 15-day program provides students practical exposure to what startup founders do as they learn to create Shark Tank-style business pitches

To give teenagers an early preview into future careers, Clever Harvey has collaborated with Multiply Ventures to launch a new industry-certified course, ‘JuniorMBA Entrepreneurship,’ specifically for high school students (Classes VIII to XII).

The 15-day program aims to provide students practical exposure to what startups founders do as they learn to create Shark Tank-style business pitches. Working in groups of two or three, students take a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of one of the most challenging functions in the world of business – entrepreneurship, guided by a Clever Harvey facilitator. As they learn to develop business strategies with step-by-step guidance, students develop a strong foundation in business acumen and critical thinking.

Speaking on the launch of the new program, Sriram Subramanian, Co-Founder, Clever Harvey, said, “With the introduction of the New Education Policy, the Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum and the booming start-up culture in India, it is important for students to understand what goes into being an entrepreneur. The newly launched program teaches the students to build a company while thinking through concepts like value proposition, business models, revenue streams, business costs, and scaling challenges. They then apply these concepts to pitch their own business plans. We are excited to welcome Multiply Ventures as a partner in building up this new category of experiential career discovery. A team of former founders who set up and scaled brands like Myntra, Flipkart, and PayTm now play the role of investors. Their inputs are invaluable for aspiring entrepreneurs - teens or adults.”

“One might think an Entrepreneurship program is intended for those who wish to build businesses. But did you know 65% of jobs that will exist in 2030 aren't invented yet? So how do you prepare the younger generation for that world? There is a distinct need for an entrepreneurial skillset irrespective of career choice in today's constantly evolving business environment. Critical thinking, influencing skills, and business acumen are key skills required to succeed in any career they choose to pursue,” he added.

Commenting on the launch, Raveen Sastry, Founder at Multiply Ventures, said, “We are delighted to have collaborated with Clever Harvey to teach entrepreneurship skills at the high school level. Students will benefit from building a broader problem-solving mindset to understand people's needs and develop solutions. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see how students develop ideas and develop solutions to turn them into viable business plans that can scale. We are excited to see the teen start-ups that emerge from this program."

About Clever Harvey:

Telangana CM KCR Unveils New IT Park at North Part of the City at Kandlakolya Village

KTR does Bhoomi Puja of Gateway IT Park Kandlakoya

Allotted letters to 90 companies with 6,04,200 sq. ft area and 8516 employees

KT Rama Rao tells youth to think like KCR, dream-like KCR

Think like KCR, dream-like KCR. The secret behind the successful political journey of K. Chandrashekhar Rao(KCR), Chief Minister of Telangana continued to dream big which is why he is where he is today. He too had his share of setbacks. He defied the suggestion of his maternal uncle, went ahead and pursued what he dreamt of, the political career. He lost the election for the chairman of the single window elections of Raghavapur.

He then joined the newly launched TDP in the year 1983. He managed to get a TDP ticket to contest as MLA on his own but lost with a small majority. But KCR continued to pursue his dream despite his setbacks. He started his party, TRS in the year 2001 without any background, media backing and cinema glamour. He fought 14 long years with determination and got a separate state and became Chief Minister. It was all possible because he believed in himself, determination, perseverance and of course with public support, KT Rama Rao told the youth in the audience and advised them to continue to dream and dream-like KCR.

K.T. Rama Rao was addressing a massive gathering of students and entrepreneurs in the audience immediately after the Bhoomi Puja of Gateway IT Park Kandlakoya. After the groundbreaking ceremony, KTR also unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion. KT Rama Rao also unveiled the logo of KITEA--Kompally IT Entrepreneurs Association.

Model of Gateway IT Park Kandlakoya

As part of our strategy of growth in dispersion (GRID) across the state, a new IT park at Kandlakoya junction on ORR has been conceptualized as a gateway to Hyderabad. I am happy to lay the foundation today on the birthday of a Living Legend Telangana CM Sri KCR Garu, he announced.

The Park which has only 5 lakh sqft capacity, got the demand for 6, 04, 200 sft space which is already booked and it is houseful now. The Cyber Towers at Madhapur which was inaugurated in 1998 has 5.25 lakh sqft, but Gateway IT Park Kandlakoya has 6 lakh sqft. That means, it is bigger than Cyber Towers, KT Rama Rao told the packed audience. Speaking why they chose to inaugurate it on the birthday of Chief Minister KCR, explained at length the journey of CM KCR, his struggle and achievement, he said and explained the journey as above.

KT Rama Rao, Malla Reddy and others seen at Bhoomi Puja function of Gateway IT Park Kandlakoya

He then reminded the audience of a well-known quotation in boxing “It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward”, that matters he said in real life too And that is what KCR has done.

KTR seen presenting space allocation letter to Dr Ankam, MD of Tutors Pride Edutech

Seen the audience mostly student at the Bhoomi Puja of Gatewahy IT Park Kandlakoya

The IT in the city is mostly focused in the West part of the city. We want it to grow in every other part of the city. Kandlakoya Village is the most suitable place to open a new IT park. The reasons, KT Rama Rao explained are, the area has 35 Engineering Colleges, 50 Traditional Colleges, 30 MBA Colleges that produce 15000 Engineering and 20,000 regular graduates. It will help more to get new jobs. It is only the beginning and so much is in the offing, he said.

The leaders from the area have been requesting my department to explore the North part of the city i.e Medchal District. They told me that the social infrastructure is already in place. There are Universities such as Malla Reddy and Mahindra located in this area. MMTS Railway station is close by. There is a good urban landscape, good connectivity. It is attached to the national highway, ORR. The place has everything one looks into when we set up an IT park. That is why this place is chosen, he added

When we came into power 8 years back people had a lot of apprehensions that they would forget the new IT companies coming to the state, but, the existing companies may go away. Instead, the city was successful in attracting the world's top and most valued companies such as Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft. It also attracted Uber, SalesForce and others. Amazon has its world's biggest campus here in Hyderabad, KTR told the audience.

Telangana is the 11th largest state in terms of Geography in India and 12th in population. But it is in 4th place after West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in contributing to the nation's economy. We are just 2.5% of India's population, but we contribute 5% to the nation's GDP. Telangana is progressing well, It has set up many benchmarks, he told.

I met with Sri Arun Mammen, VC & MD of MRF India, before coming to this meeting.

He has shared with me that they’ve decided to invest ₹1,000 Cr into expanding their facility & creating a new speciality assembly line at Sangareddy district. He also offered CSR of ₹4Cr to the “Mana Ooru - Mana Badi” program, KTR revealed.

IFC and We-Fi Launches "IFC ScaleX" to Award Upto $25K to Biz Accelerators Helping Women-led Cos in Emerging Markets

To help tackle the financing gap that women entrepreneurs still face, particularly in emerging markets, IFC and the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) launched today a new call for applications for IFC ScaleX—a performance-based initiative that will provide an award of up to $25,000 to business accelerators that have helped women-led companies in emerging markets raise equity financing.

"After acceleration, women raise far less capital than men, other factors being equal,” said Stephanie von Friedeburg, Senior Vice President of Operations at IFC. “We must level the playing field to ensure the best ideas are funded. IFC ScaleX is designed to do this, backing impactful accelerators that are themselves backing women entrepreneurs with great ideas."

Research shows that startups that can access external financing are able to grow up to 30 percent faster than those that do not. However, accessing capital remains a challenge, particularly for women entrepreneurs in emerging markets. Only 11 percent of seed funding in emerging markets goes to companies with a woman in their founding team, and the figures are even lower for later stage funding. Furthermore, an IFC study found that male-led startups, on average, increase the amount of equity they raise post-acceleration by 2.6 times more than female-led startups.

IFC ScaleX seeks to incentivize accelerators to actively help women unlock funding opportunities, catalyzing a total of $40 million into women-led startups over the next two years.

“Gender disparity in accessing funding, particularly in high-growth technology sectors, is still significant,” said Wendy Teleki, Head of the We-Fi Secretariat. “It is troubling to see that women entrepreneurs receive only a small fraction of the global venture capital, despite the enormous potential of their solutions. IFC ScaleX will help promote more gender-inclusive acceleration and investment across emerging markets, which is critical for creating more high-growth and resilient women-led firms.”

Accelerators can visit the IFC ScaleX website to learn more about the initiative and determine if they are eligible to apply for an award. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. For more information, please reach out to the IFC ScaleX team at scalex@ifc.org.

IFC has partnered with Village Capital, the largest supporter of impact-driven, seed stage startups in the world, to help implement this initiative.
