Owning a flying car has been everyone’s childhood dream and this dream could soon turn into reality with the Slovakian startup AeroMobil working hard towards it.

AeroMobil on Wednesday announced the premiere of the AeroMobil 3.0 at the Pioneers Festival held in Vienna. The idea of flying car is in its 25th year of making and this will be the company’s third prototype. The personal transportation vehicle was designed by Stefan Klein, who is the founder of the Department of Transport Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Slovakia.  He had been working on the idea since 1989 and it was only in 2010 that the things got real and he commercialized the idea by setting up AeroMobil.

"We believe personal transportation is about to change forever" announced Juraj Vaculik, chief Executive, AeroMobil at a press conference.

AeroMobil has the capacity to change your life in seconds as it transforms from an automobile to airplane in no time. It is a flying car that will make use of the existing infrastructure created for airplanes and automobiles to make door to door travel possible. As a car, AeroMobil makes use of regular gasoline, fits into any standard car parking and can be easily used like a regular car in traffics. As an airplane, AeroMobil cannot only use any airport in the world but also land and take off using any paved surface or grass strip just a few hundred meters long.

The current AeroMobil 3.0 is an improved version from its previously released prototype AeroMobil 2.5.  AeroMobil 3.0 has been built from advanced composite material and includes wings, body shells and wheels. It further contains all the features that the creators plan to include in the final product, such as an advanced parachute deployment system, avionics equipment and autopilot. The design has now been finalized and is being tested since October this year under regular flight testing program in real flight conditions.

The AeroMobil 3.0 will also try to implement a number of advanced technologies such as sturdy suspension that allows it to take off and land even at a rough terrain and variable angle of attack of the wings that will shorten the take off requirements of the flying car. The car will be able to carry two people at a time and fly as fast as 124 miles per hour.
