FindYogi – Helping Consumers Make Better Buying Decisions

findyogi-website

FindYogi is a platform that helps consumers make better buying decisions. The product currently serves 4 categories, viz. Mobiles, Tablets, Cameras and Laptops. Founded in October 2012 by Naman Sarawagi in Bangalore, the company now has a 12 member team. Naman has previously worked on products like Freecharge and ZipDial. FindYogi takes a holistic approach towards helping consumers decide what to buy. Each product has quantified specifications, there is comparison between 2 products, curated lists and if you still can’t make a decision, FindYogi lets you ask an expert for personalized advice.

Naman started the company only to earn quick money. "There was a lot of buzz around ecommerce and I believed there was a lot of money to be made here. Though, once we started making the product, we realized there is a big gap in information present on the web and what/how a potential buyer might want for making a decision.", he said. Hence the idea of building FindYogi as a decision platform was born.

‘We solve the problem of What to buy? for consumers. E-commerce companies are great when it comes to fulfilling orders but only if you know what you want to buy. Making a buying decision on an ecommerce site is tough.’, said the founder. They are currently using proprietary algorithms to quantify features and price index of products. And in a few months they will use data science even more to understand the need of the user in a better way.

The company wants to be very strong with Mobiles, Tablets, Cameras and Laptops before they expand further. "The ultimate aim is reduce buyer's remorse amongst consumers. They should feel happy and confident about what they choose to spend their money on.", they say. ‘First 3 months into the business was tough for us. We had product out in the market but very little traction. Since then we have tweaked a lot to reach where we are today.’, added Naman. Never doubting the idea behind the problem, Naman did have a doubt about the individual features of the product. ‘Building consumer facing product is all about validating your convictions, not all of which are right.’, he says.

Believing in "The harder you try, the luckier you get." Naman suggests the future entrepreneurs to be passionate and solve the problem ‘and everything else will fall in place. If making money is the only aim, there are better ways.", he added.

The next time you want to buy Mobiles, Tablets, Cameras or Laptops we suggest you to visit FindYogi

FindYogi, a Bangalore based web startup that we reviewed some time back today announced that it has raised funding of Rs.55 Lakhs i.e. around $100K from Raju Vanapala, the founder-CEO of Way2SMS. The startup said that the funding will be utilized to strengthen the technology and data team.

FindYogi started in Oct 2012 with the sole vision of making shopping decisions easier for consumers. The startup collects first hand data about standard products and through its proprietary algorithm scores the products based on features. The application also suggests if a given product is rightly priced, as compared to alternatives available in the market. The web application currently helps with purchases for mobiles and tablet computers. New product categories like laptop, camera and other consumer durable will be added over the next few months.

The founders of FindYogi, Naman Sarawagi and Anil Bhat have worked for some well-known Indian and international web and technology companies before taking the entrepreneurial jump. While Naman was part of the initial team at Freecharge, now funded by Sequoia Capital, and ZipDial, Anil was part of the technology team at Novell and Yahoo for over 6 years.

Naman Sarawagi, founder and CEO of FindYogi, said, "With FindYogi we are looking to reduce buyer’s remorse amongst Indian consumers by helping them make better buying decision. A bad purchase decision is not only painful for the consumer but also bad for the industry in the long run. We still have a long way to go in terms of product and reach before we can claim that we have solved the problem successfully."

Commenting on the investment, Naman said, "I believe Raju’s investment brings in more than just money for us. His experience of running one of the most used and highly profitable web applications in India is a great value add as a mentor."

Commenting on the investment, Raju Vanapala said, "The space around shopping assistance and buying decisions is interesting. Given the buzz around e-commerce in India, consumers are coming online for shopping related activity. Though a lot of them may not end up buying online but the decision-making still happens on the web. Given the founder's work at previous startups, I trust FindYogi should make it big in the space."
