Viyona Fintech Goes Live with UPI Switch at Bharat Cooperative Bank

Viyona Fintech Goes Live with UPI Switch at Bharat Cooperative Bank
Hyderabad-based Viyona Fintech has gone live with its UPI Switch at Bharat Cooperative Bank, marking an important production deployment for the fintech company as it expands its presence in India’s banking and payments infrastructure space.

The integration enables Bharat Cooperative Bank to connect its banking systems with the UPI ecosystem through Viyona’s switching technology. The platform handles the technology layer required for processing UPI transactions, along with functions such as transaction routing, reconciliation, monitoring and operational controls.

For Viyona, the go-live is significant because it takes the company’s UPI Switch from technology development and certification into a live banking environment.

“Getting a payment switch certified is one part of the journey. Seeing it actually go live with a bank and process transactions is a completely different milestone for us,” said Ravindranath Yarlagadda, Founder and CEO of Viyona Fintech.

“We have spent considerable time building the technology, going through testing and working closely with the bank and ecosystem partners. This go-live gives us the confidence to take the platform to more banks,” he added.

Viyona has been gradually building a wider technology stack for banks rather than focusing only on consumer-facing payment products.

Its technology portfolio includes UPI and IMPS switching infrastructure, internet and mobile banking technology, Bharat Connect/BBPS solutions and systems supporting merchant payments, collections, payouts and reconciliation.

The company sees cooperative and regional banks as an important opportunity as more financial institutions look to modernise their payment infrastructure while maintaining the security, reliability and regulatory controls required in banking.

India’s rapid adoption of UPI has also changed what banks expect from their technology partners. As transaction volumes increase, the infrastructure behind a payment has to process transactions quickly while managing failures, reversals, reconciliation, fraud controls and continuous availability.

According to Yarlagadda, this is the part of fintech that customers rarely see but which ultimately determines whether a digital payment works reliably.

“When somebody scans a QR code and makes a payment, they expect it to happen in seconds. Behind those few seconds there are several systems communicating with each other. Our focus is on building that infrastructure and making it dependable,” he said.

The Bharat Cooperative Bank deployment is expected to become a reference implementation for Viyona as it looks to work with more banks and financial institutions.

The company is also developing its capabilities across other parts of the digital banking and payment ecosystem, with the broader objective of becoming a full-stack banking technology provider.

For Viyona, however, the immediate focus is on ensuring that the newly launched UPI infrastructure performs reliably at scale.

“This is an important day for our team, but it is also the beginning of the next phase for us,” Yarlagadda said. “We built the technology in India, our engineers worked on it from the ground up, and now it is running in a live banking environment. That is something our entire team is proud of.”

With UPI continuing to reshape payments across the country, companies such as Viyona are betting that the next big opportunity in Indian fintech will not only be in building payment apps, but also in building the infrastructure underneath them.

VIYONA Fintech Receives Approval From BBPS to Operate as a Customer Operating Unit
Hyderabad based VIYONA, a fintech infrastructure startup building digital payment solutions for banks, financial institutions, enterprises, and government organisations, has received approval from the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to operate as a customer operating unit (COU).

This certification enables VIYONA to offer BBPS-powered bill payment services across multiple categories, including electricity, water, gas, broadband, mobile recharges, DTH subscriptions, insurance premiums, loan EMIs, educational fees, and other approved bill payments.

Furthermore, the milestone allows banks, NBFCs, fintech companies, enterprises, and government organisations to leverage VIYONA's platform to integrate bill payment services and deliver secure payment experiences to their customers.

"Digital payments have become an integral part of everyday life, and the demand for scalable, interoperable financial infrastructure continues to grow," said Ravindranath Yarlagadda, Founder and CEO of VIYONA Fintech.

"With the BBPS COU certification, we are expanding our ability to help banks, fintechs, enterprises, and billers deliver seamless bill payment experiences at scale. For users, this translates into a more convenient, reliable, and trusted way to manage everyday payments." Ravindranath added.

With this latest addition, VIYONA now holds NPCI certifications across UPI Switch (Issuer and Acquirer), IMPS, Banking Connect, BOU, eKYC Setu, and BBPS COU, further strengthening its capabilities as a full-stack payments technology provider for banks, billers, and financial institutions across India.

As it expands its payments and financial infrastructure capabilities, VIYONA continues to build a technology ecosystem that connects banks, businesses, merchants, and agricultural stakeholders, helping drive broader access to digital financial services across India.

Viyona Fintech Receives NPCI Bharat BillPay Certification as a Biller Operating Unit (BOU)

Viyona Fintech India Private Limited, an NPCI-certified Technology Service Provider, today announced it has successfully completed certification as a Biller Operating Unit (BOU) under the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), operated by NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited.
The certification clears Viyona to go live as a Biller Operating Unit, enabling billers across utilities, education, insurance, and financial services to collect payments through India’s Bharat BillPay network.

With this milestone, Viyona adds BBPS BOU to a growing portfolio of NPCI certifications spanning UPI Switch (Issuer and Acquirer), IMPS, Banking Connect, and eKYC Setu, reinforcing its position as a full-stack payments technology provider for banks, billers, and financial institutions across India.

“Bill payments are where digital inclusion becomes real for everyday Indians, and BBPS is the rail that makes it interoperable,” said Ravindranath Yarlagadda, Chairman and CEO, Viyona Fintech. “Our BOU certification lets us bring more billers, especially in underserved and regional segments, onto a single trusted network. As a technology provider, our role is to make that onboarding fast, compliant, and accessible to billers who have so far stayed outside the digital payments fold.”

As a certified Biller Operating Unit, Viyona is now equipped to onboard billers onto Bharat BillPay, offering a compliant, ready-to-integrate path to one of India’s largest interoperable bill payment networks. Onboarding for partner billers will begin in the coming weeks.
