APM Terminals Pipavav Signs Key Contracts to Advance Liquid Cargo Jetty, Reinforcing Gujarat’s Maritime Vision

In a firm step toward fulfilling its commitment made at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, APM Terminals Pipavav has formalised two significant contracts to accelerate the construction of a dedicated liquid cargo jetty (Berth 6), solidifying its role in India’s maritime growth story.

APM Terminals Pipavav has signed a contract with L&T Geostructure Pvt. Ltd. for the construction of the new liquid jetty and related marine infrastructure. In parallel, Van Oord India Pvt. Ltd. has been engaged for capital dredging and reclamation works essential to the project’s execution.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Shri Rajkumar Beniwal, IAS, Vice Chairman & CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board, at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, emphasizing the State’s continued support for port-led development and infrastructure expansion.

The upcoming liquid jetty is expected to significantly boost the port’s capabilities in handling diversified cargo, while also improving service reliability and future-proofing operations. Beyond infrastructure, the project is poised to generate employment, attract industrial investments, and catalyse regional development around the Pipavav Port corridor.

APM Terminals Pipavav is one of India’s leading gateway ports for containers, dry bulk cargoes, liquid bulk, and RoRo with excellent connectivity to the India’s northwest hinterland through rail and road network. The current annual cargo handling capacity includes 1.35 million TEUs of containers, 4 million metric tons of dry bulk, with a dedicated liquid berth coming up the capacity will be increased to 5.2 million metric tons of liquid bulk and 250,000 passenger cars. APM Terminals Pipavav is India’s first public private partnership (PPP) port and the first port to be connected to the DFC in India and is a part of the APM Terminals global terminal network.

S. Korea's Simmtech to Invest ₹1,250 Crore for Setting Up Semiconductor Plant in Sanand, Gujarat

South Korea-based Simmtech, which manufactures high-layer printed circuit boards (PCB) for semiconductors, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Government to invest over Rs 1,250 core in the state. The MOU was inked in the ongoing Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024.

Simmtech will set up operations to support Micron's semiconductor plant in Gujarat.

Simmtech, which has been concentrating on developing and manufacturing High-layer PCBs for semiconductors since it was established in 1987, will setup the plant in Gujarat's Sanand, where American semiconductor firm Micron’s plant is also under construction.

The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Union Minister of IT and Electronics Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. At the inaugural session held on Wednesday, Simmtech CEO Jeffery Chun had announced that the company is ready to invest in India.

This investment firom South Korean firm is expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities in the state.

Simmtech is world’s largest semiconductor packaging IC substrates and high-density interconnect printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer.The company has advanced manufacturing plant in South Korea, China, Japan and Malaysia.

Additionally, in this year's Vibrant Gujarat Summit, cooperation agreements were forged between Micron and Nantech, as well as Cisco and Nantech.

On this occasion, the Union Minister of Electronics and Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, also announced that Gujarat is poised to manufacture the country's first Make in India chip in 2024. During the seminar, Sanjay Mehrotra, the CEO of Micron, conveyed his appreciation for the exceptional cooperation from the state government and the Government of India. He stated that India is on the brink of establishing a robust semiconductor supply chain in the near future.

As part of the run-up to the country’s most prestigious global summit, Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017, the Government of Gujarat has been sending delegations consisting of top government officials and industry leaders to various countries. One such delegation visited the US West Coast which held meetings in San Francisco, Seattle and San Diego. The delegation led by Mr. Dhananjay Dwivedi, IAS, Secretary, Government of Gujarat held back-to-back meetings with over 20 firms in a span of just four business days.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with Airbnb, 500 Startups, Amazon, Docusign.in, Gilead Life sciences, Prysm Inc., Panchil, Semantify, TripBorn, Verizon Enterprise Solutions, Varian Medical Systems, University of Berkeley, UL, Applied Materials, ResMed, Cidara Therapeutics, Illumina, and EAG.
