Ex-Infosys CFO & Director V. Balakrishnan Joins Association of NBFC P2P Platforms as Patron Member

Within a month after the formation of NBFC-P2P industry body, Association of NBFC P2P Platforms, the association today announced the joining of finance industry veteran & Former Infosys Chief Financial Officer V Balakrishnan as Patron Member.

P2P lending industry players have formed association to represent the Indian NBFC-P2P industry at various national as well as at international forums. The P2P operators participating in the operations are OML P2P, Monexo, PaisaDukan, Finzy, Cashkumar, Liquiloans, Micrograam, Lendsmartp2p, Peerlend and Indiamoneymart. The association aims to establish formal lines of communication between various government and regulatory authorities on matter of compliance and to create awareness about the industry and to work towards enhancement of public trust in this sector.

Mr. Balakrishnan doesn’t need any introduction in the finance industry, he has held leadership positions in Finance and is an expert in Corporate Finance, International Taxation, Risk Management and Mergers & Acquisitions. He is also a recipient of the "Best CFO" award from CNBC India and Finance Asia. He has been the Director and CFO of Infosys and CEO of Infosys BPO. Currently Balakrishnan is Founder & Chairman of Exfinity Ventures Partners LLP, based out of Bangalore.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. V.Balakrishnan said, “India is poised to be a USD 4-trillion economy by 2022, of which USD 1-trillion would be digital economy. Needless to say P2P lending will play a key role in digital economy of India and in financial inclusion. P2P lending industry is poised to be a $4 to $5 billion Industry by 2023. The association will allow the P2P Lending community to become more closely aligned with the traditional & various financial services sector and will give confidence to the firms operating in this sector that we are committed to working collaboratively on regulatory and other matters of interest."

Speaking on the development Mr. Pramod Akhramka, President of Association of NBFC-P2P Platforms and Founder & MD of OML P2P said “Mr. Balakrishnan is renowned for his financial and business acumen. Guidance from him will be a significant development that will bolster the leadership team of the association and will help the association in getting recognition at various international forums as well as getting some strategic partnerships and collaborations with other stakeholders in the banking and finance industry."

The association aims to associate with honorary members from various domains to strengthen its authority in the Indian Financial Ecosystem.

NBFC P2P Platforms Association, has been registered under The Society Registration Act, 1860. Mr. Pramod Akhramka has been elected as President, Mr. Rajiv Ranjan as Secretary and Mr. Mukesh Bubna as Treasurer of the association.

Association’s aim is to create awareness on peer-to-peer (P2P) lending and to promote merits among individuals and institutional customers. It also aims to bring credibility for this industry and to form P2P industry standards for more transparency within the industry.

Pet Care App TailsLife Secure Funds From V Balakrishnan

Pet care app Tailslife has raised an undisclosed round of bridge funding from existing investor and chairman of Exfinity Ventures, V Balakrishnan. The company has received commitments from other investors as well and has kept the round open to secure further investments, reports ET.

The firm plans to deploy freshly infuse funds towards the product and service enhancement. Commenting on the development, Balaji Ramesh, CEO at TailsLife said, "We will utilize the latest round of investment to add more value to our services and products line-up in the coming months. Soon, we will offer on-demand services and healthy meal solutions for pets."

Founded in October 2015 by Balaji Ramesh, Prachi Gupta, and Dushyant Rao, TailsLife aims at making pet parenting easier and happier by providing content specific to the breed and age of your pet and easier access to vet, grooming and boarding services.

The latest version of the app has come up with a really clean UI along with easy navigation functionalities and advanced features. It offers its customers to customize their content feed. Once customers registered their pet’s breed and age with TailsLife, the customer will automatically get informative articles that are more relatable to their age and type. Also, with a click of a button customer can get in touch with the best spas, salon services, boarding kennels and more. It also provides dedicated pet forum which is totally dedicated to customer’s pet.

The user can virtually shake a leg with other pet parents and share their story. Apart from this user can also share and view interesting pet stories from around the world.

In December 2016, the startup had raised an undisclosed round of angel funding from Balakrishnan and Norwest Venture Partners India's Mohan Kumar in their personal capacity, along with Encube Venture Partners and others.

Other startups who operating in this space include DogSpot.in and Heads Up For Tails (HUFT) among others.

Tax Info Portal TaxSutra Get Funding From Ex-Infosys CFOs

Mumbai-based online startup TaxSutra, a portal providing real-time tax-related information, analysis and insights to corporates and professionals has raised US$160,000 (around INR 1 crore) from former Infosys CFOs V Balakrishnan, TV Mohandas Pai and board members of Infosys.

Taxsutra will use the funds to scale up the company, improve technology and product development.

"Leading corporate boards are struggling with lack of quality information and analysis to mitigate their risks while taking business decisions. TaxSutra provides that critical information backed by a high quality team of founders and professionals," Balakrishnan said.

Founded in January 2011 by media professionals - Arun Giri, Ameya Kunte and Arun Anant, Taxsutra is a B2B subscription-based portal on direct tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing and corporate laws. It provides instant news alerts and incisive analysis on both domestic and international tax.

Giri has previously worked at CNBC18 and UTVi Business News, and Kunte has worked with Ernst & Young (now EY) and PwC while Anant, an engineer and management graduate, has worked at UTV News Ltd, Bennett Coleman & Company Ltd, IRIS Ltd, Lintas Worldwide (Lowe & Partners) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.

"We have a host of new product launches lined up over the next 12-18 months that will cater to the information/analysis needs of tax/law professionals,” Arun Giri & Ameya Kunte, founders, TaxSutra Services, said in a joint statement.

TaxSutra claims that over 5,000 tax professionals receive its daily alerts. Its subscribers include Fortune 500 companies, leading MNCs, tax firms, law firms and the regulators.

Clonect Solutions, which is a Bangalore based compliance ERP provider offering compliance management solutions, enterprise governance and risk management has some high profile investors to its kitty. Recently, former Infosys CFOs and board members TV Mohandas Pai and V Balakrishnan have invested in the Bangalore based company.

Marking his maiden investment, V Balakrishnan has joined the esteemed list of angel investors who have high hopes from the Indian product ecosystem.

Clonect has been successful in raising around Rs. 1.5 Crore, which include Rs. 50 Lakh investment from Pai and Balakrishnan, for a minority stake in the company.

According to Balakrishnan’s statement to TOI, "Clonect gives a single view of compliance across the organization. It has a repository of all the documents on the compliance in a structured way with an audit trail at a click of a button."

Clonect stands for "Cloud Connect" was founded in May this year by two former Infosys employees Shailesh Agrawal and Balaji Rao. Ricago Compliance Management System (CMS) is the flagship product of the startup. The product caters to end to end compliance requirements, which include regulatory, internal and contractual compliance. CMS is available on the cloud and on-premise.

According to Rao, Section 134 of the companies Act, which requires the board of companies to file their director’s responsibility statement to certify that there is a compliance management system in the organization and all applicable laws are compiled with, has resulted in increase of opportunities for Clonect. Earlier, the onus was on the CFO and the CEO, but now it has shifted on the independent directors and board.
