Melissa Clayton (@iammelissaclayton)

Melissa Clayton's obsession with Pinterest started with the platform's release in 2010. As an entrepreneur at the time, she quickly realized the potential of the platform. She began learning the do's and don'ts all the while working as a business owner herself. Over the years, she recognized an opportunity to extend the strategies to business owners as she noticed how underutilized Pinterest is, especially by most businesses without a physical product.

In 2019, she founded Pinfinite Profits , a group coaching program designed to give business owners the tools and strategies needed to grow and monetize with Pinterest. In just a year, Melissa has helped numerous brands connect with their target customers through Pinterest. Her bootcamp training usually spans in just 10 days, giving her clients immediate results. Melissa arranges the online training in small groups to allow business-centered conversations in the spirit of teamwork and encourage them to bounce ideas comfortably. Applying what she learned, she began implementing Pinterest marketing strategies at work and eventually on her online business. After leaving NYC for a quieter life in North Carolina, Emma decided to take the leap and started her own business, Digital Nomad Marketing Co.

Initially Emma focused solely on offering Pinterest management services to high-caliber online businesses. However, she saw an opportunity to extend her knowledge about the platform, expanding her offerings with the addition of her top-rated Pinterest Marketing course, The Pin Method , and Pinterest VA mentorship program. On top of that, she recently introduced coaching and mentorship programs geared towards ambitious online business owners wanting to grow their brand. She believes that if you are only focused on the growth of your social media accounts and you can't show how that impacts the business as a whole, then proving ROI is nearly impossible. With this in mind, Emma approaches her coaching by ensuring ROI and all of the factors affecting it are clear from the start.

Her vision is to continue educating her students on the power of Pinterest, while also guiding them towards clarifying their vision, taking inspired action, and hitting consistent five-figure months.

Pinterest Launches Today Tab in India and Additional Countries for Daily Inspiration with Curated Topics and Trending Ideas

Pinterest, Inc. (NYSE: PINS) today announces that the Today tab, a new source of daily inspiration with curated topics and trending ideas will be launching in 13 additional countries including: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, and India, after recently launching in the U.S. and U.K.

Pinterest is seeing a significant increase in people searching for helpful tips and ideas for what to do at home to stay inspired as they stay inside. In response, Pinterest is making it easier than ever to quickly find recipes, kids' activities, self-care ideas and more with the Today tab.

In addition to daily inspiration and trending ideas such as kid-friendly baking, work from home set-ups, family-favorite movies, and comfort food recipes, the Today tab features expert information from the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control on topics such as handwashing during the current coronavirus epidemic.

To use the Today tab, Pinterest users can tap on "Today" at the top of their home feed on iOS or Android for new ideas each day. Recommendations will include a handful of topics including ideas curated by the Pinterest team with feature guest editors in the future. While the home feed continues to be a personalized space with recommendations based on the Pinner's activity, the Today tab will show popular ideas based on what's going on in the world and what people are searching for.

Pinterest also launched compassionate search on web, to make the mental wellness feature available on all platforms for all users in the U.S. and the U.K. In the past few weeks, searches for "calming quotes" doubled, and "stress relief" and "stress quotes" have tripled on Pinterest. Now when people search for terms such as "stressed out" from the desktop computer or phone, options to see a collection of emotional wellbeing activities to help relax and feel better with content from emotional health experts will appear.

Pinterest's efforts to make reliable information easily accessible also includes:

  • A custom search experience (image here)

  • A banner across the site that directs to WHO facts

  • An easy way to report health misinformation through the "health misinformation" option on Pins. Pinterest removes any misinformation it finds about COVID-19 because it violates its health misinformation policy (which has been in place since 2017).

  • Stay safe, Stay Inspired board shared with Pinterest users

Globally, Pinterest hit all-time highs in engagement over this past week, and searches increased nearly 55% year over year. In India, searches have increased by 59% year over year and the number of Pinterest boards created increased by 70%. Since March 1st, searches have increased by nearly 25% globally and views on video Pins have nearly tripled compared to the same time last year.

Klay Schools Raises $16M from Peepul Capital and Pinterest Buys Fleksy to Improve its Visual Search Platform

Klay Schools has raised $16 million in funding in Series B round while content sharing platform Pinterest has acquired Fleksy, a company well known for its gesture based keyboard app.

Peepul Capital Leads $16M Round in Klay Schools

Bangalore-based Klay Schools has raised $16 million in funding in Series B round led by private equity firm Peepul Capital. Existing investor Kaizen Private Equity also participated in the round.

Run by Founding Years Learning Solutions, Klay School will use the money for its expansion plans. In 2013, Kaizen had invested $6 million in Klay Schools which provided an exit to its existing investor Value and Budget Housing.

"We will be increasing the number of centres to 200, entering new cities Pune and Chennai. We are also looking at entering Dubai and will be entering Singapore or Hong Kong market through an acquisition," said Priya Krishnan, CEO of Founding Years, who holds a minority stake in the company.

The premium school chain has a presence in the Delhi-National Capital Region, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The company works with companies such as Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and Genpact to run their on-site day-care centres as well as near-site day-care centres under the brand name, The Little Company.

Content Sharing Platform Pinterest Buys Fleksy to Improve its Visual Search Platform

Content sharing platform Pinterest has acquired Fleksy, a company well known for its gesture based keyboard app. The deal amount is still undisclosed by both the companies.

Fleksy announced the acquisition deal in a blogpost and said, ”Fleksy will remain available in the app stores for the foreseeable future, so no need to worry about being forced to re-learn to type on a alternative keyboard…As a tribute to our incredible community of users we have made the decision to open-source some of the Fleksy components that the blind and visually impaired community grew to love.”

Fleksy app was launched four years back on iOS for blind users, at a time where 3rd party platform keyboards were not supported on iOS.

The Fleksy’s team further added, “Over the years it has been our great pleasure to bring you the fastest and most reliable typing experience. Building a keyboard, especially a good keyboard, is not an easy task. In fact, it’s really hard. Without all of your support and feedback it wouldn’t have been possible. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you.”

Pinterest gain 150% users in India with in a year

pinterest_India

Pinterest, the four year old social networking platform, which lets people make visual discoveries with the help of pictures, seems to have caught the curiosity of many Indians lately. The platform has recorded a 150 percent rise in Indian users in the last one year.

Pinterest is headquartered in San Francisco and has been successful in raising around $760 million till now through various rounds of funding. The online scrapbooking site is currently valued at $5 billion, all thanks to the recent $200 million capital raise that the platform received from Bessemer Venture Partners and Andreessen Horowitz. The platform has plans of using some part of that money in expanding its services globally.  The company has formed separate teams for France, UK, Germany and Japan.  Seeing its popularity in India, the company is also investing in localizing contents for the market.

The United States forms the 70 percent part of the platform’s sixty million user base. What is interesting is that, in India the user base has a 50-50 gender split, which means equal number of men and women make use of the platform in the country.  This trend is quite different from what the platform experiences in other countries. Most of the Pinterest users in India make use of the platform on their Smartphones.

In order to cash in on the local languages, the platform is available in over 32 different languages all around the world. Hindi was recently added to the list so as to impress the Indian market.

“We are very excited about the way India is growing for us and, with the rapid adoption in smartphone usage, we expect to build a great business there in a few years,” said Matt Crystal, head of International business at Pinterest in an interview to the Times of India.

According to Crystal, one thing which differentiates Pinterest from Google is that Google makes use of algorithms to index search, while Pinterest has human who do the cataloging work and algorithms are only used to push the result when someone searches something specifically.

Pinterest has recently introduced a new analytics tool which will help the business keep a track on the number of Pinners (Pinterest users) who interact with their pins along with other information.

Pinterest finally decided to make money (from promoted pins)

pinterest

Pinterest has now finally started rolling out paid test for Promoted pins and earn some revenue from website after four years of launch of Pinterest.com website. In September, Pinterest announced about its plans to experiment with promoted pins on Pinterest and now it has finally started to monetize it substantial user base it has from paid test experiment that will gradually expand to full advertisement model of promoted pins, as per announcement made on Pinterest blog.

Pinterest is now started working with a small group of brands from different industries, in the U.S. only, to roll out a paid test in search and category feeds. Different brands working with Pinterest for promoted pins are - ABC Family, Banana Republic, Expedia.com, Nestle - Purina, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Gap and more.

As per Pinterest promoted pins will not be like flashy banners or pop-up ads, instead these will always be relevant to users interest and about stuff users are actually interested in, like a delicious recipe, or a jacket that's your style.

Promoted pins work just like regular pins, only they have a special 'promoted' label, along with a link to learn more about what that means.

According to company tens of millions of people have added more than 30 billion Pins to Pinterest and brands are a big part of this.

Pinterest, at first will promote a few pins in search and category feeds to get a feel for how they work, thereafter after the test results the company will finalize the roadmap on how to use promoted pins in best way so as to provide better experience and benefit to its users and make money at the same time.

As per AdAge Pinterest is seeking for major commitments from prospective advertisers i.e. between $1 million and $2 million per campaign. That means Pinterest is aiming for CPMs (cost per thousand impressions) at between $30 to $40 - an aggressive price point compared to standard web advertising, or even other social ads. Pinterest declined to comment on its pricing.

In October last year Pinterest got whooping $225 million in Series-E round of funding and valuation of the company came out to be $3.8 billion.
