MeitY Ties with MapmyIndia To Enable Map Services in UMANG App

The service will enable people to find government facilities like Mandis, Blood Banks etc. near their location

With the newly launched map service people can easily navigate through visual and voice directions

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has taken various initiatives in the recent past to ease the lives of citizens by facilitating online delivery of Government services. To further enhance the initiatives of Digital India Programme, and keeping in view the theme of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, MeitY has enabled map services in “UMANG App '' through an MOU with MapmyIndia.

As a result of integration of UMANG with MapmyIndia Maps, citizens will be able to find government facilities nearest to their location, such as mandis, blood banks and much more, at the click of a button. They will also be able to see these on the most detailed and interactive street and village level maps of India, built by MapmyIndia. Citizens will also be able to view the driving distance, get directions and turn by turn voice and visual guidance to locations, including traffic and road safety alerts during navigation, through the linkage between UMANG App and MapmyIndia”.

UMANG app has already started to provide map functionality through MapmyIndia in the following services:

• Mera Ration - Through UMANG, users can identify and navigate to the ‘Nearest Fair Price Shops’ as shops are visible in the form of pointers on MapmyIndia integrated map.
• eNAM - Through UMANG, 'Mandi Near Me' service will help users to identify and navigate to the nearby mandis pointed on the map.
• Damini - ‘Damini Lightning Alerts’ service is to provide lightning alerts to users by giving a visual ofnearby areaswhere lightning has struck in the last few minutes. This alert mechanism provides the possibility of lightning strikes on map view.

To further increase usefulness to citizens, the map functionality will be shortly enabled in many more services such as:

• ESIC - Users can view ESIC centers such as hospitals/dispensaries on map view and navigate to them.
• Indian Oil - Service is to locate nearby retail and distributors of Gas stations as well as fuel filling stations.
• NHAI: Users can view the toll plazas and toll rates information while travelling.
• National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) provides information corresponding to nearby police stations on the map.
• Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (Meri Sadak) will help users to raise complaints of damaged roads (under PMGSY) by selecting the road on MapmyIndia platform.

The UMANG mobile app (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is a Government of India single, unified, secure, multi-channel, multi-platform, multi-lingual, multi-service mobile app, providing access to high impact services of various organizations (Central and State). Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi had launched the UMANG App in 2017. UMANG brings major government services on a single mobile app, with a larger goal to make the government accessible on mobile phones of citizens. As on date, UMANG provides about 1251 services from 257 Departments & 32 States and about 20,280 Utility Bill Payment services and many more services are there in the pipeline. UMANG user base has crossed 3.41 Crore across Android, iOS, Web and KaiOS platforms. Citizens can also access their Digilocker Accounts from UMANG and give their feedback after availing any service through Rapid Assessment System (RAS) which has been integrated with UMANG.

VISIT Gets Seed Funding from Technology Company MapmyIndia

Delhi based VISIT, an on-demand healthcare service provider, has raised an undisclosed amount in seed round funding from MapmyIndia, a marquee Technology Company based out of New Delhi.

VISIT allows users to get their health queries answered in few minutes with their free text-a-doctor service - ‘Q’. This allows the users to ask all health related questions to doctors with just a real time text message. ‘Q’ is designed to be a health-based Q&A platform that works with a personal conversation between you and your physician. It’s an easy way to get a first opinion from a doctor. If the user requires a treatment or counselling, ‘Q’ helps connect the user with a specialist over Video or Phone call within 30 minutes.  

“With the new funding, we plan on investing heavily in improving our technology. We are also aiming at increasing the number of doctors and counsellors on the app to 500 over the next 3 months. The vision is to bring m-Health to a billion Indians over the next 5 years. No matter where you are, you should have access to quality healthcare at just a tap.” said Vaibhav Singh, Co-founder, VISIT.

“We have been in search of supporting a team whose mission was to make quality healthcare easily available to everyone and who had the capability to execute on this mission. VISIT was co-founded by four graduates from BITS Pilani — Anurag Prasad, Vaibhav Singh, Chetan Anand and Shashvat Tripathi to solve the various problems in the delivery of healthcare today – booking an OPD appointment, travel time, in-clinic waiting, inability to get in-house doctor visits and privacy concerns/stigmas associated with visiting particular types of specialists like psychologists and dermatologists etc.

“We realised that for most of the 30Million+ working Indians visiting a doctor during weekdays was a big pain point. Unsurprisingly, most of us consult a doctor only when the condition is serious which diminishes the whole concept of preventive healthcare and timely follow ups. There is no single fix for Indian healthcare, but its hard to imagine a world where technology that connects patients to high-quality care (anytime, anywhere) isn’t a crucial part of the solution.” said Anurag Prasad, Co-founder, VISIT.

Currently the platform empanels therapists, general physicians, dermatologists and nutritionists for paid specialist consultations over Video/Phone call.

Talking about the specialists associated with VISIT, Chetan Anand, Co-founder, VISIT, said, “We make sure that the empanelment of doctors is carried out through a strict verification process thereby providing a reliable service to our customers. On an average only 1 out of 5 doctors make it through our stringent quality checks.”

Meet SafeMate, A GPS-Based Personal Safety Device By MapmyIndia

Safety is first on the priority list of many, whether men or women, while going out nowadays. Whether it's broad day light or the silent darkness at night, the alarming rate at which crimes like rape, assaults are increasing have turned the cities into fearful places where the best way to stay safe is lock yourself up in your houses and not venture out at all. While it seems like the most safe option but it is surely not a sane one for many of us who are either working or studying in order to earn our daily bread. Assuring the safety of these hard workers when they're away from their safety nests, their homes, is a safety device called SafeMate.

SafeMate is a dedicated personal safety device developed by Delhi-based MapmyIndia, a provider of digital maps, GPS navigation, and tracking. This personal safety device device can be purchased exclusively from Flipkart at Rs. 6,990.

The matchbox-sized SafeMate weighs just 50 grams in weight and can fit into a school bag, purse, or pocket very easily. The wonder safety device makes use of its built-in GPS and Internet connectivity to securely transmit live locations to a mobile phone and desktop. It also has an SOS button that can be pressed in case of an emergency. Pressing the SOS button will send email and SMS alerts to the emergency contacts designated by the person.

The SafeMate companion app is currently available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and also on the MapmyIndia website.

The thing that makes distinguishes SafeMate from the others in the market is that unlike other safety apps that make use of the mobile phone's GPS continuously, and tend to drain the phone's battery, SafeMate does not require a mobile phone, and has a battery life of three to four days.

On purchase, the device will come loaded with with Rs. 3,600 worth of SIM card connectivity charges and subscription fees. This service can then be subsequently renewed for Rs. 300 on a monthly basis, and has a separate SMS package for top ups, priced between a menial Rs. 250 to 500.

"The alarming increase in crime women and children in India spurred us into thinking about how we could use our sophisticated technology to provide safety to individuals. We wanted to keep things simple so that the technology can be used in the most stressful situation. The result is SafeMate," said Rashmi Verma, Director and Co-Founder, MapmyIndia, in a statement.
