Tata Communications Launches B2B IoT Marketplace of Plug-and-Play Model

Indian telecommunications giant Tata Communications has launched an Internet of Things (IoT) marketplace to bring together IoT practitioners and enterprise customers on a single platform. Tata Communications’ IoT Marketplace can be accessed at IoT.tatacommunications.com.

The IoT Marketplace looks to address these needs by bringing together different partners from device manufacturers, software developers to start-ups and system integrators to deploy and manage IoT solutions, all under one single platform.

This will enable customers to tailor their IoT solutions and drive innovation within their business while enabling vendors and partners on the platform to discover new market opportunities, it said in a statement.

Consulting major Frost & Sullivan finds that the enterprise IoT market in India will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 35 per cent through 2023, quadrupling the market by then. Indian enterprises have not been able to fully leverage the opportunities as there is a lack of standardisation, interoperability and connectivity in the IoT market.

"By bringing together best-of-breed IoT players on one online B2B marketplace, we are breaking new ground in the journey to unlock the power of IoT in India," said Alok Bardiya, Head of IoT business unit at Tata Communications.
The IoT marketplace will enable diverse customers from the government, public sector companies, enterprises, and start-ups to choose from a range of offerings and services on a plug and play model, enabling them to leverage IoT solutions to address their custom requirements.

Tata Communication, which has a LPWAN-based IoT network, has so far rolled out its network in 45 cities, nearly 2,000 communities, touching over 400 million people in total. The customers of the telecom firm represent 300 of the Fortune 500 corporations whose digital transformation journeys are enabled by its portfolio of integrated, globally managed services that deliver local customer experiences.

Tata Communications is building the foundation for IoT in India with its LPWAN network, spanning nearly 2,000 communities and touching over 400 million people in total. To-date, the company has rolled out its network in 45 cities, with more cities planned for implementation over the next two years.

To recall, in February, a leading natural gas distribution Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), rolled-out its pre-paid smart gas metering system, which is deployed over a LoRaWAN Internet of Things (IoT) network of Tata Communications.

It was in February 2017 when Tata Telecommunications partnered with the US IT firm Hewlett Packard (HP) to build an IoT network in India and which will eventually be the largest IoT network globally.

Prior to that in November 2016, Tata group joined hands with global venture capitalists including General Electric Ventures, Microsoft Ventures and Qualcomm Ventures among others, to set up a IoT technology incubator in Israel. The incubator called i3 Equity Partners (i3) focuses on developing next-generation IoT (Internet of Things) and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technologies.

In August 2015, Netherlands became the first country in the world to have a nationwide network of IoT beating South Korea to it by a margin of just a week. The nationwide IoT network in Netherlands was rolled out by Dutch telecommunications company KPN.
