NABARD Brings GI-Tagged Handloom Treasures to Mumbai for National Handloom Day

On the occasion of National Handloom Day 2025, NABARD will host a two-day Exhibition-cum-Sale on 7th and 8th August 2025 at its Head Office premises in Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

The event will feature 15 curated stalls, showcasing India’s diverse handloom traditions and providing artisans a direct platform to display and sell their exquisite creations to the public. This initiative celebrates the craftsmanship of NABARD-supported weavers while offering visitors a vibrant glimpse into the country’s rich weaving heritage.

A wide range of traditional products from across India, including Kutch embroidery & Tangaliya from Gujarat; Banarasi Sarees, Mirzapur Carpets & Durries, Muzzaffarnagar Feather Handloom & Baghpat handloom from Uttar Pradesh; Ambala Handlooms from Haryana; Batik Print & Maheswar Sarees from Madhya Pradesh; Jodhpur Bandej from Rajasthan; Pochampally Ikkat from Telangana; Paithani Sarees from Maharashtra; Mulberry and Tassar Silk from Bihar; Jamdani & Kantha Sarees from West Bengal, among others will be available for sale.

Visitors can purchase GI-tagged handloom products directly from artisan groups, ensuring authenticity and fair value.

As part of its annual tradition, NABARD celebrates National Handloom Day across all its Regional Offices and Head Office (Mumbai), reinforcing its dedication to empowering weavers and preserving India’s handloom legacy.

Observed annually on 7th August, National Handloom Day commemorates the launch of the Swadeshi Movement in 1905, celebrating the spirit of self-reliance and honouring the invaluable contributions of India’s weavers to the nation’s cultural fabric.

The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) organised the Handloom Exhibition & Enlightenment Session on Friday at its premises at Federation House, Red Hills.

HANDLOOMS EXPO HELD AT FTCCI 

20 Weavers showcased their master crafts at the exhibition. An Enlightenment Session was organised by Industry, Academia & Weavers.

Dr Manoj Lanka, State Director of KVIC (The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament graced as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion he said Khadi is a booming Industry in India. He highlighted various schemes of the Union Government such as PMEGP—Prime Minister’s Employment Generation program, Honey Mission, SFURTI (Scheme of Found for Regeneration), Gramodyog Vikas Yojana etc.

The turnover of Khadi and Village Industries Commission products has crossed Rs.1.34 lakh crores figure. In the last 9 financial years, there has been an unprecedented growth of 332% in the sale of indigenous Khadi products made by artisans in rural areas.

He called artisans to utilize the machinery and toolkits being provided to create as many employment opportunities as possible and contribute to the construction of a self-reliant India.

KVIC executed several key programs under the 'Gram Vikas Yojana for the welfare of the deprived artisans. He said that this scheme intended to uplift the artisans by providing skill training and free tools and machines. Informing that nearly 1500 artisans from Telangana

Mr M Venkatesh, State Enforcement Officer/Regional Deputy Director, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Govt of Telangana said Telangana is a great hub for Textiles and Handloom products. Telangana Textiles and Apparel Policy has attracted great investments. Because of this Welspun, one of the leading textile companies in India invested Rs 2000 crore in the state.

What this sector needs is marketing help and design intervention. In the near future, all RTC Bus Stands in Telangana will have Handloom stalls. All the government undertakings too will have a platform to sell handlooms.

The event titled “Threads of Tradition & Freedom: A Celebration Week for Handlooms Heritage" was organized by FTCCI to educate consumers about the unique qualities and benefits of handloom products. It aimed to raise awareness about the sustainability, eco-friendliness, and superior quality of handmade textiles and articles, encouraging consumers to make informed choices.

Hyderabad, August 04, 2021....Weave India, an initiative to support weavers and promote Handlooms will be held in the city at Roots College of Design, Film and Media at Jubilee Hills on August 7th and 8th.

An initiative of Roots College of Design, Film and Media, the exhibition-cum-sale is organized on the eve of National Handlooms Day. It will be an event by the weavers for the weavers announced Ms Mutha Prerna Kirthi, Center Head of Roots College of Design, Film and Media. It will promote and bring the spotlight back on to the traditional art of weaving, and promote weaving as art and weavers as artists, she announced. "On National Handloom Day, we would like to salute all those associated with our vibrant handloom and handicrafts sector, she added.

It will be formally kicked off on August 7 on the day of National Handlooms Day. Ms. Bina Rao, one of the Co-Founders of Creative Bee, a well-known design studio which has designed for some of the top fashion and lifestyle labels in the country and multi-store retail giants around the world will be the Chief Guest.

Mr. Shravan Kumar, Fashion Designer of Shravan Studio, a true fashionista with an unparalleled command of latest trends and styles and Mr. Aravind Jashua, Fashion, Costume and Crafts Designer of Thrithvaa Khaadi will be guests of honor.

As you all know every year August 7 is observed as National Handloom Day. It is celebrated annually to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement launched in 1905. Weave India is planned to mark the occasion and celebrate the same and also to make people aware that Handlooms is our Legacy she added.

Stating further in a press note issued in the city today, Ms. Kirthi said "Fashion is the most polluting industry today.

The only way forward is to go sustainable. The best move forward towards sustainability is going back to our 'Roots'. The theme for the 30 Years Celebration of Roots Collegium is also "Going Back To Roots". The Pandemic may be bad in many ways. But it is also good in some ways.
