SocialBoat - A Fitness App for Women, Raises Funds from Plan B Capital, Abhijit Kane, and Angels

Socialboat - A Fitness App for Women, Raises Funds from Plan B Capital, Abhijit Kane, and Angels

SocialBoat, a women's health app, has announced raising an angel round of US$ 200K from Plan B Capital. Other angel investors who have committed to the venture include Abhijit Kane (Co-founder, Postman), Videt Jaiswal (Co-founder, Airblack), Bhuvan Gupta (Co-founder, OfBusiness) and Prateek Sharma (Managing Partner, AheadVC), Neeraj Gupta (Angel Investor) among others. The funds will help SocialBoat scale its technology platform, strengthen its tech team, invest in brand building, and partner with health coaches at scale.

SocialBoat was founded in December 2021 by Swapnil Vats and Rahul Jain to provide affordable and personalized fitness & health programs to over 100M women in India. Presently over 60% of women in India are diagnosed with PCOS after ignoring personal health for years. Nearly 80-85% of them develop obesity and are at high risk of developing infertility, diabetes and cancer.

Most healthcare providers and fitness companies have shied away from women’s health and primarily focus on a male centric body or aesthetic fitness goals like weight loss, abs etc. SocialBoat bridges this gap by creating 360 degree fitness programs that cater to women specific goals like - managing PCOS, postpartum care and mobility and general healthy living.

These programs are designed by gynecologists, fitness coaches and nutrition experts and are presented to the user in the form of an engaging game. In the game, SocialBoat’s AI gives short tasks like 10 min HIIT workout, eat a green salad or go for a 4km walk to the users. As they finish the tasks, they get points and can use them to unlock next levels and win exciting prizes.

Additionally, there is a championship where users can participate in teams with their friends. The game structure has made healthy living ‘addictive’, with users spending more than 50 minutes a day on the app and 80% of them achieving their goal.

SocialBoat acquires users by enabling existing fitness communities like - running clubs & cycling groups to create teams in the SocialBoat game. The team acts as a micro pod, where users get a sense of community as they achieve their fitness goals. Some popular teams on the app are created by influencers like Aarja Bedi (Women Strength COach), Greesha Dhingra (Fertility Yoga Trainer), Coach Ravinder (NCR’s largest running group) and organizations like AVIVA India, AIESEC and Punjab Engineering College.

Presently, there are over 5000+ users, 850+ communities and 500+ success stories on the app. The app is 5/5 rated on Apple App Store and Play Store and was recently ranked #2 on ProductHunt.

We believe that adding the fun game lens to fitness has made the subject a lot more approachable. It also gives the user a sense of winning. This psychological trigger can make healthy living as addictive as a video game” said Rahul Jain, Co-Founder SocialBoat.

We have recorded an organic growth of 145% MoM led by influencers who invited their followers to their teams. In 2023, we aim to scale to tier II cities and explore fitness content in vernacular languages.” said Swapnil Vats, Co-Founder, SocialBoat.

I'm excited to support Socialboat in their journey to revolutionize the home workout landscape in India. This is a space where there's a lot to be done, and the team has done their groundwork well." said Abhijit Kane, Co Founder PostMan.

As an icon of the youth, Shreyas Iyer, who is exclusively managed by RISE Worldwide, India’s largest sports and entertainment Company, has always kept himself physically fit and has been an advocate of using technology to get the best out of life. Ultrahuman M1 has helped him identify the diet that works for his body, which has helped him improve his training, better off-season weight management, and in-competition performance. Shreyas Iyer has the daily insights on glucose levels, his metabolic health, powerful insights on his food and activity that allow him to plan his day better, with future tours being scheduled around the world.

Ultrahuman is the world’s most advanced metabolic fitness platform. Built on an app and supported by a wearable patch, the “Ultrahuman M1”, users are able to track their metabolic health whilst getting intelligent nudges based on glucose biomarkers. This helps people optimize their exercise, sleep and nutrition based on deep insights from the platform. The M1 tracks the wearer’s metabolism as they go about their day. It triggers timely nudges to the user such as alerts to a high blood glucose event and suggestions to take a walk for optimizing their glucose levels.

Shreyas Iyer, Indian cricket team player, said. “I have always been very focused on my health and fitness and look to understand my body to perform to my best. In my life, there is always a constant learning graph and evaluation that helps me evolve and become a better player. I strongly believe in using technology as an aid for bettering my performance and staying fit. Metabolic Fitness Platform Ultrahuman Acquires Lazyco, A Consumer-focused Wearable Company

Metabolic Fitness Platform Ultrahuman Acquires Lazyco, A Consumer-focused Wearable Company

Acquisition marks the first step by Ultrahuman to expand the biomarkers complementing its current wearable, the Ultrahuman M1. Creators of the popular Aina Ring, LazyCo founders Apoorv Shankar and Yogansh Namdeo to join Ultrahuman to lead hardware product development.

Ultrahuman, the world’s most advanced metabolic fitness platform, has today announced the acquisition of consumer-focused wearable company LazyCo famed for creating the Aina ring wearable.

LazyCo will integrate with Ultrahuman’s global in-house hardware development team as they seek opportunities to enhance the user experience and help improve global metabolic health standards. Ultrahuman will leverage the LazyCo team’s expertise to generate deeper metabolic insights and better overall health insights for consumers.

The metabolic health crisis is unarguably one of the largest healthcare crises that exist today. Over a billion people in the world suffer from a metabolic health disorder which contributes to almost 85% of all chronic diseases in the world. By helping people understand how food and exercise affect their metabolic health, people would be able to make informed choices about what they eat and their activity levels. The approach is a geography/diet agnostic way to help people eat and exercise better.

Measuring a powerful biomarker like glucose can reveal so much about how a particular food item affects the user’s metabolic health by measuring the glucose response. This response is unique to an individual and it depends on various factors like their gut microbiome diversity, stress levels, time of the day, food ingredient quality, etc. With this acquisition, the idea would be to expand the set of real-time biomarkers that could provide unique health insights upon correlation.

LazyCo was founded by engineers turned product designers, Apoorv Shankar and Yogansh Namdeo in 2017. The company focused on building hardware products that made daily life easier. One of the notable products included the Aina Ring - an AI-powered smart ring designed to predict and automate daily tasks without the need to take the phone out of the pocket. Digital tasks such as booking cabs, controlling smart home devices, activating SOS alerts, and taking phone calls, were 7x faster and easier through the ring. LazyCo completed a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2019 and won several design and startup awards from the likes of Alibaba and Qualcomm.

“Ultrahuman’s vision of making health more personalized and impactful for people syncs with LazyCo’s vision of building products that solve problems for people in the most effortless ways. Together, we can create a deeper impact on the overall health of the world,” said Apoorv Shankar, Co-Founder and CEO, LazyCo

Ultrahuman launched with a wearable (the “Ultrahuman M1”) - a metabolic health tracking platform that provides intelligent nudges based on glucose biomarkers.

“We want to make it easy to get healthy. At Ultrahuman, we’re deep believers in passive personalized health, specifically in a health platform that requires very minimal effort from a user’s perspective. This perfectly aligns with the philosophy of LazyCo.” said Mohit Kumar, Founder and CEO, Ultrahuman

Ultrahuman was started by Mohit Kumar and Vatsal Singhal who were also co-founders at Runnr which later merged with India’s largest food delivery service Zomato. Mohit is an avid cyclist, biohacker and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast. Vatsal is a cross-fit enthusiast and a biohacker. Mohit was training at one of the largest MMA Camps in the world (Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand). There, he observed athletes train smartly via the usage of data, recovery tools and protocols. He got together with Vatsal and they came up with a vision for Ultrahuman where they can make the journey of fitness for people more personalized and impactful.

Ultrahuman is a venture-backed startup that has raised $25m to date. Their investors include Alpha Wave Incubation (AWI), which is backed by DisruptAD and managed by Falcon Edge, Steadview Capital, Nexus Venture Partners, Blume Ventures and Utsav Somani’s iSeed fund, and a range of marquee founders and angel investors including Tiger Global’s Scott Schleifer.

Amazon Launches 'Amazon Halo' and 'Amazon Halo Band' - A New Membership based AI-based Health & Wellness Band & Tools

  • Amazon Halo combines a suite of AI-powered health tools with an innovative and stylish wrist band
  • Body feature uses new computer vision technology to give an accurate body fat percentage measurement from the comfort and privacy of home—as accurately as methods a doctor would use
  • Tone feature uses machine learning to help customers get a more complete view of their health and wellness by understanding how they sound to others
  • Use Amazon Halo to monitor Activity and Sleep; plus, discover new tips with Labs—guided programs that help customers discover healthier habits with content from Headspace, Orangetheory Fitness, SWEAT, WW, and more.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) today introduced Amazon Halo, a new service dedicated to helping customers improve their individual health and wellness. Amazon Halo combines a suite of AI-powered health features that provide actionable insights into overall wellness via the new Amazon Halo app with the Amazon Halo Band, which uses multiple advanced sensors to provide the highly accurate information necessary to power Halo insights. Customers in the U.S. can request early access to Amazon Halo starting today, with the Amazon Halo Band and 6 months of Halo membership available for a special price of $64.99. Learn more at www.amazon.com/haloband.

“Despite the rise in digital health services and devices over the last decade, we have not seen a corresponding improvement in population health in the U.S. We are using Amazon’s deep expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning to offer customers a new way to discover, adopt, and maintain personalized wellness habits,” said Dr. Maulik Majmudar, Principal Medical Officer, Amazon Halo. “Health is much more than just the number of steps you take in a day or how many hours you sleep. Amazon Halo combines the latest medical science, highly accurate data via the Halo Band sensors, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence to offer a more comprehensive approach to improving your health and wellness.”

Amazon Halo Band—Comfortable, Stylish, and Distraction-Free

Amazon Halo Band is purpose-built to focus on your health and wellness—unlike smartwatches and fitness trackers, it doesn’t have a screen or constant notifications. The small sensor capsule delivers highly accurate data, and includes an accelerometer, a temperature sensor, a heart rate monitor, two microphones, an LED indicator light, and a button to turn the microphones on or off, among other functions. Amazon Halo Band is water resistant for all-day wear and the comfortable fit means it won’t snag or irritate at night. Plus, the battery lasts up to seven days and fully charges in under 90 minutes. Customers can choose from three fabric band colors at purchase, with fabric and silicone sport accessory bands available in 15 additional colors.

A More Comprehensive Approach to Health and Wellness

The Amazon Halo app is a suite of five core features designed to give customers a comprehensive understanding of their health and wellness—and the tools to take action to make measurable improvements:

  • Activity: Informed by American Heart Association physical activity guidelines and the latest medical research, Amazon Halo awards points based on the intensity and duration of movement, not just the number of steps taken. For example, customers will earn points for walking, but will earn more points for running. Medical guidelines also advise that a sedentary lifestyle can negatively impact health, so Amazon Halo deducts one activity point for every hour over eight hours of sedentary time in a day, outside of sleep. A baseline goal of 150 activity points is set and measured weekly.
  • Sleep: The health benefits of consistently good, sufficient sleep are well documented—as are the potential negative health impacts of not enough or consistently poor sleep. Amazon Halo uses motion, heart rate, and temperature to measure time asleep and time awake; time spent in the various phases of sleep including deep, light, and REM; and skin temperature while sleeping. The sensors in the band allow for continuous sleep monitoring, so customers get rich, detailed information without having to charge the band every day. In the morning, Amazon Halo delivers a sleep score out of 100, any deviation from baseline sleep temperature, and a hypnogram showing time spent in each sleep phase.
  • Body: Medical research has shown for years that body fat percentage is a better measure of overall health than just weight or body mass index (BMI) alone, but the tools that measure body fat percentage can be expensive or difficult to access. Using new innovations in computer vision and machine learning, Amazon Halo lets customers measure their body fat percentage from the comfort and privacy of their own home, making this important information easily accessible. The Amazon Halo body fat measurement is as accurate as methods a doctor would use—and nearly twice as accurate as leading at-home smart scales. Learn more about the Body feature.
  • Tone: The globally accepted definition of health includes not just physical but also social and emotional well-being. The innovative Tone feature uses machine learning to analyze energy and positivity in a customer’s voice so they can better understand how they may sound to others, helping improve their communication and relationships. For example, Tone results may reveal that a difficult work call leads to less positivity in communication with a customer’s family, an indication of the impact of stress on emotional well-being. Learn more about the Tone feature.
  • Labs: AmazonHalo Labs are science-backed challenges, experiments, and workouts that allow customers to discover what works best for them specifically, so they can build healthier habits—for example, some customers might discover that cutting out afternoon caffeine improves their sleep quality, or that a certain type of at-home workout is more effective than others. Customers can choose from labs created by Amazon Halo experts, as well as brands and personalities they already know, including 8fit, Aaptiv, American Heart Association, Exhale On Demand, Harvard Health Publishing, Headspace, Julian Treasure, Lifesum, Mayo Clinic, Openfit, Orangetheory Fitness, P.volve, Russell Wilson, Relax Melodies, SWEAT, and WW. Additional content from more providers will be added to Labs regularly.

“The American Heart Association is excited about technology that focuses on new and interesting ways for people to improve their cardiovascular health, quality of life, and healthy life years. We’re thrilled to see companies like Amazon innovating in this space,” said Eduardo Sanchez, M.D., MPH, Chief Medical Officer for Prevention, American Heart Association. “The Association is committed to helping people live longer, healthier lives—both physically and mentally. The first step is knowing your current status, and features like Body composition are important advances. Through our Center for Health Technology and Innovation, we are pleased to provide our evidence-based science as part of this solution, which we believe has the potential to drive behavior change towards healthier lives.”

Privacy by Design

Privacy is foundational to Amazon Halo, and multiple layers of privacy and security are built into the service to keep data safe and in customers’ control. Health data is encrypted in transit and in the cloud, and customers can download or delete their data at any time directly from the app. Body scan images are automatically deleted from the cloud after processing, so only the customer sees them. Tone is enabled by creating a personal voice profile, after which it begins capturing short samples of speech and providing insights and daily recaps. Speech samples are always analyzed locally on the customer’s phone and automatically deleted after processing—nobody, not even the customer, ever hears them. Learn more about Amazon Halo privacy features.

Get More with Third Party Program Integrations

Amazon has collaborated with leading health and wellness companies to enable customers to connect their Amazon Halo account to third party programs for even more ways to enhance their health journey. Account linking occurs via the explicit opt-in of the Amazon Halo customer and they can opt back out any time directly from the Halo app.

Members of both WW (formerly Weight Watchers) and Amazon Halo can choose to link their accounts to share Halo Activity information, which the WW app translates to FitPoints. Amazon Halo members also have access to all of WW’s labs any time in the Halo app. WW will offer a variety of promotions, including the ability to get a free Amazon Halo Band and 6 months of membership as part of signing up for a new WW membership. Learn more. “WW is committed to inspiring healthy habits for real life and we are continuously looking for ways to enhance the WW ecosystem. The Amazon Halo Body composition tool is an important complement to weight measurement, and we are thrilled our members will have access to this information on a regular basis from the comfort and privacy of their own homes,” said Mindy Grossman, CEO, WW. “WW members who previewed the Body feature said it was highly motivating in their journey and we are excited to offer WW members a more comprehensive understanding of their wellness through Amazon Halo."

Amazon Halo will be the featured complimentary wearable for the John Hancock Vitality wellness program, including three years of Halo membership. Vitality members can choose to link their Amazon Halo Band to their account to earn Vitality Points for the things they do to try to live longer, healthier lives. Learn more. “At John Hancock, we are committed to helping our customers live longer, healthier lives. We know Amazon shares this goal and are excited to integrate with Amazon Halo and continue to transform the role our industry plays in our customers’ lives,” said Brooks Tingle, President and CEO, John Hancock Insurance. “This strategic endeavor allows us to offer our customers the latest in insights-driven personal health technology that can help them improve their overall wellness. We believe these enhancements will have a positive impact for our customers.”

Amazon Halo is now integrated into Cerner solutions to enable consumers to easily share health information with their care teams and directly into their electronic health record (EHR). Amazon Halo members will be able to share their body fat percentage with participating care providers as well as activity and sleep data with Cerner Consumer Well-being programs. Sharp HealthCare is the first Cerner client to benefit from this collaboration. “For more than 40 years, Cerner has ushered in health care’s digital age by moving medical data from paper to electronic health records. Now we are seeking breakthrough innovation focused on making the health care experience more seamless and insightful,” said Brent Shafer, Chairman and CEO, Cerner. “Integrating the revolutionary body fat percentage measurement from Amazon Halo directly into the EHR provides physicians an actionable and previously hard to obtain health metric without the need for a doctor’s visit or costly technology. We believe our collaboration with Amazon Halo has the potential to improve the health of individuals and populations, reduce health care costs, and increase satisfaction for consumers and clinicians alike.”

Additionally, it also gives you reminders for your pills and monitors your water intake along with your likes and dislikes in food items. The app also keeps a track of your aliments/habits and routine schedule to help you achieve your goal.

Keeping in mind how the traditional healthcare system is almost on the verge of vanishing and online healthcare seems to be the new normal Atul Kapoor said, I decided to introduce a health and wellness platform for an individual and his family with a pure intention of helping people to own a healthy body and mind”.

sense.bio has also announced that they will be having a complete package which will enable people to track their health and wellness, for oneself and their family members. A Motion-Detecting Fitness App that Pays its Users to Exercise Set to Launch this Month

South Australia's Adelaide -based app development company PixelForce has been working on the project – known as Fitbotic – for the past three years.

According to the company's Managing Director Hinney Lo, Fitbotic used motion detection technology to track the number of repetitions a user performed through body movement recognition, without the need for additional phone accessories.

The platform is currently available in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.

He said it was designed for people new to working out as well as those who lacked motivation – and was unlike most other fitness apps on the market that relied on users to manually input their repetitions. “We want to encourage or help users build up their workout habits because it’s fun and rewarding,” Lo said.

“Hopefully once they have built up this habit, they can move onto a professional workout app, like SWEAT or our other clients.”

Lo founded PixelForce in 2011 with a focus on logos, graphic design and basic website construction. The company took off four years later after developing the first SWEAT mobile app for South Australian fitness guru Kayla Itsines.

PixelForce has since developed a range of apps and websites for brands across industries including wellness, food and wine, and transport. But unlike PixelForce’s other developments, Fitbotic is the company’s first fully-owned and developed initiative.

The app would reward users for working out through Fitbotic credits, which could be used to make purchases through the business’s e-commerce store or cashed out.

“You can’t cash out 10 cents, because there is a transaction fee on every transaction,” Hinney Lo explained.

“We charge on a monthly basis; the app will charge $9.99 per month. If you work out consistently and you meet all your goals, technically you can get all of your money back or you can even make a little bit of money – maybe a few dollars. But if you are not doing great, keeping up and meeting the goals you won’t be able to earn the money back," Lo said.

He said users seeking further motivation would also be able to choose from a range of virtual trainers to count repetitions.

“You can actually select the level of amusement on the voice over. So, if you select 18+ it might swear a little bit, like a hardcore fitness trainer,” Lo said.

“But if you select the moderate mode it would be very encouraging.”

While the app is currently available for Apple and Android devices through the iTunes store and Google Play, the official software won’t be available until its launch in about two weeks.

The project is the latest in a string of developments from the company, which moved into a larger inner-city office earlier this year.

It is also preparing to launch one of its other projects – EzLicense, a platform which connects driving instructors with students looking to learn to drive – in South Australia in the coming months.

“As a learner you go onto the website and put in your suburb and postcode and choose your transmission and automatic or manual and search and it will display all the instructors that are servicing in that area,” Lo said.

“EzLicense is a real-time platform that integrates with the instructors’ calendar. It shows you all the availability in real time so you don’t need an instruction or call back from the instructor, it can be booked in under two minutes.”

fitso

The thought behind this whole idea was the need for a strict routine and a motivational factor. Both of these are very important if someone genuinely wants to get in shape. However, with faster life and work, people do not get time to find the right trainer and like-minded group to sustain their healthy routine. In a bid to aid these set of people, FitSo came into existence. Fitso allows its users to seamlessly connect, train and discover activities of their interest while on the go.
