AI Agents in Creative Cloud

Adobe believes AI agents will be powerful and productive tools for creative professionals similar to how generative AI assists them today. The company recently shared its vision for agentic AI and is working to bring creative professionals tools that can use natural language to access more than 1,000 one-click actions in Photoshop, help them learn new features and handle repetitive tasks with the creator in control and in the driver’s seat.

Photoshop’s new reimagined Actions panel (beta) offers smart suggestions to creators that can inspire them to try out various creative directions and help them choose a series of multi-step edits to undertake. The Actions panel enables them to enact these edits with a single click. It is the foundation of what will become Photoshop’s first creative AI agent.

Adobe has also laid the foundation for agentic professional video workflows in Premiere Pro with Media Intelligence, which understands the content clips, automatically recognizing objects and the visual composition of shots in every frame. Adobe is also planning to bring agentic AI to Adobe Express, transforming it into a creative partner that helps users of all skill levels quickly and intuitively create standout visual content and bring ideas to life with ease.

Supporting the Creative Community

As it showcased its latest innovations, Adobe invited the creative community to participate in a new Creative Apprenticeship initiative, aimed at helping the next generation of creators establish themselves in their careers. Adobe has recruited hundreds of mentors and employers to the initiative, which provides participants with hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship and real-world experience.

Adobe also announced new protections for creators to help ensure they receive credit for their work and to protect it from misuse and misrepresentation. The launch of the Adobe Content Authenticity app, now in public beta, offers a free tool to let creators choose which information is attached to their work via Content Credentials. It includes verified identity (powered by Verified on LinkedIn and social media accounts. Creators can include a tag in their Content Credentials to state they don’t want generative AI models to train on their work.

Adobe takes the most creator-friendly approach to AI in the industry. Adobe Photoshop Celebrates 35 Years of Creativity, Community, and Innovation

Adobe Photoshop Celebrates 35 Years of Creativity, Community, and Innovation

Adobe is proud to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Photoshop, the world’s leading digital imaging and design software that has transformed creativity across industries. Since its launch in 1990, Photoshop has empowered designers, photographers, and artists worldwide to bring their visions to life, shaping the future of digital art, visual storytelling, and creative workflows.

A Journey Through Decades of Innovation

1990: The Birth of Photoshop

In 1990, Adobe Photoshop was born, enabling the first wave of photographers to create with more tools and controls than ever before. Photoshop was introduced by Thomas and John Knoll to provide powerful digital image editing tools to edit and enhance photographs. What started as a niche tool for editing scanned images soon became an essential part of creative workflows.

1989-91: Photoshop Enters Hollywood

Before its official launch, an early version of Photoshop was used in the visual effects of The Abyss (1989). Co-creator John Knoll, who worked as a visual effects supervisor on the film, utilized Photoshop to help craft the groundbreaking water pseudopod sequence. This marked Photoshop’s first venture into Hollywood, paving the way for its major role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day just a few years later. Photoshop's advanced features, like layers (introduced in 1994) and non-destructive editing, offered filmmakers unprecedented control over visual effects and post-production work.

1994: Layers Revolutionize Digital Design

Photoshop 3.0 introduced Layers, a game-changing feature that allowed users to separate and manipulate different elements of an image independently. This single innovation set a new precedent for digital design workflows.

1995: Non-Destructive Editing becomes the standard

The introduction of Adjustment Layers, Blend Modes, and Layer Masks transformed how artists edited images, enabling them to make changes to color, brightness, and contrast without altering the original image.

1998-9: A Household Name

The release of Photoshop 5.0 in 1998, which introduced the History Panel and Layer Effects, marked a turning point in mainstream adoption. These features made complex edits more accessible, fueling Photoshop’s widespread use in advertising, print media, and emerging online content. By the late ‘90s, Photoshop had established itself as a widely recognized tool in both professional and creative spaces, shaping digital imagery and pop culture alike.

Evolution through the 2000s

2001: Liquify Filter Launches

The Liquify Filter became a favorite among designers and photographers, enabling surreal distortions and precision retouching with ease.

2002: The Healing Brush Tool

This tool revolutionized photo retouching by seamlessly blending image textures, allowing imperfections to vanish instantly. This brush has been a game-changer for photographers and retouchers ever since.

2003: The Creative Suite Era and Adobe Camera Raw

Photoshop became part of Adobe Creative Suite, integrating seamlessly with tools like Illustrator and InDesign to enhance creative workflows. Additionally, the introduction of Adobe Camera Raw allowed photographers to edit raw files directly in Photoshop, preserving image quality while streamlining the editing process.

2007: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

Lightroom was launched and becomes an empowering image editing complement for photographers and Photoshop users to make high quality edits and content. A fun fact, by coincidence, Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw also share Photoshop’s February 19th birthday — all three products were launched on that day in different years!

2010: Content-Aware Fill

Photoshop introduced Content-Aware Fill, empowering users to conceal or replace unwanted objects from images with unprecedented ease and intelligence. Our initial video announcing Content-Aware Fill was one of the first videos on YouTube to go viral!

2018: Photoshop Receives a Technical Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored Photoshop with a Scientific and Engineering Award, recognizing its groundbreaking impact on digital filmmaking and visual effects.

2018: Select Subject Simplifies Complex Selections

Powered by machine learning, Select Subject allows users to make precise objects selections with a single click, saving time and effort in complex workflows.

2019: Photoshop on iPad

Photoshop brought its best-in-class technology to a tablet, giving creators untethered freedom and flexibility to create on the go.

2023: Photoshop on the web

Photoshop was reimagined for a web browser with a streamlined user experience, focused on empowering newer users with a more intuitive interface.

2023: Generative Fill and Adobe Firefly

The launch of Generative Fill powered by Adobe Firefly — a commercially safe generative imaging model — changed how we can express our creativity and accomplish our goals. Since that introduction, we’ve expanded our suite of powerful generative capabilities, enabling you to ideate rich concepts more quickly, accelerate productivity, and simplify complex tasks.

Looking ahead: 2025 and beyond

While it was fun to commemorate Photoshop’s 35th birthday and reflect on how far we’ve come, it’s more exciting to look forward and shape the future of creativity with you, our community. We remain committed to building products that empower you to create anything you can imagine. Your passion and feedback fuel product innovation, so we hope you’ll continue this journey with us. We encourage you to connect with fellow creators online AND offline:
  • This week, February 19th, share your early Photoshop creations on Instagram and tag the @Photoshop handle so we can amplify what you share.
  • Join us on April 24th at MAX London to hear about the newest innovations from Adobe and Photoshop.

Adobe Unveils AI-Powered Innovations in Lightroom to Empower Creativity

Adobe Unveils AI-Powered Innovations in Lightroom to Empower Creativity

At MAX Japan 2025, Adobe announced the arrival of two new AI-powered editing features in Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw: Adaptive Profiles and Distraction Removal. These tools unlock new ways for you to edit your photos and reduce the tedious repetition required for common tasks.

Realistically enhance HDR photos with Adaptive Profiles

Available in Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom for mobile (iOS & Android), Lightroom for web, and Adobe Camera Raw

Adaptive Profiles, which help you quickly create great-looking HDR images, are now generally available in both color and black & white across the entire Lightroom ecosystem.

First introduced in Camera Raw last fall, Adaptive Profiles dynamically adjust the tones and colors of your photos, creating an enhanced , yet realistic , starting point for further editing. Unlike traditional presets and profiles with universal settings, Adaptive Profiles adapt to your image. An AI model analyzes your photo and adjusts tones and colors to make them look just right. The effect is as if the AI had changed Exposure, Shadows, Highlights, Color Mixer, Curves, and other controls for you, although the actual controls stay in their original neutral position.

Adaptive Profiles build on our existing support for HDR workflows. They’re just the latest improvement of many since we first introduced support for creating and editing high dynamic range images in 2023.

Remove distracting people from your photos

Available in Early Access in Adobe Camera Raw, coming soon to Lightroom

Removing distractions has long been a tedious and manual task for many photographers. Today, photos full of distractions either take ages to edit, or you may have no choice but to throw them out entirely. We want to make it much easier to not only identify unwanted distractions in your photos but remove them in just a few clicks.

Distraction Removal, now available in Camera Raw as a Tech Preview and coming soon to Lightroom, can detect and remove common distractions in your photos like unwanted people. From eliminating photobombers at a photo shoot to combating the crowds in family vacation photos, you can now easily achieve clean, professional-looking results in moments. And if you have trouble with annoying window reflections, check out the Distraction Removal feature for removing window reflections we launched in December.

In addition to innovating for the future, Lightroom is also committed to building features that our community has been asking for. These improvements will streamline your workflows and make your life easier.

Save time managing your photo library

Available in Early Access in Lightroom on the web

Organizing and managing the hundreds or thousands of images in your photo library is one of the most tedious and time-consuming parts of photography. We’ve begun experimenting with some powerful new tools in Lightroom on the web that are designed to make it easier to identify the right photos for continued editing and remove unneeded ones.

One of the biggest annoyances is tracking down the duplicate images that always seem to find their way into your library. Today, that’s getting easier with the launch of Find Duplicates, now available in early access as part of the Clean Up tool in Lightroom on the web.

Clean Up is one of the features that makes Lightroom on the web a great lightweight tool for quickly viewing, organizing, and managing the photos you have saved in the cloud. In addition to identifying duplicate shots, Clean Up also helps you find blurry photos, screenshots, and other unwanted images.

Intuitive Focus Point Selection for Tether Live View

Available in Lightroom Classic

Getting the perfect shot during your live photo session is now easier than ever with Lightroom Classic's new Focus Point Selection tool. When tethered to Lightroom Classic, you can change your camera's autofocus mode in the Tether Live View window and simply click on your desired subject. No more fiddling with Auto Focus or manual near/far focus buttons — just point and click to get the right focus every time.

This is especially handy when your camera is set up in a tricky spot, like high above your head for a bird's-eye-view shot. Plus, it's much easier to set the focus point on the larger, live-view window than on the smaller camera screen. Whether you're focusing on a model's eye or another object, this tool gives you the confidence that you're capturing the perfect shot. The feature is available for supported Sony, Nikon, and Canon cameras.

Enhanced sharing experiences

Available in Lightroom Mobile (iOS)

For most photographers, the point of capturing a great image is to share it. So we’re making it faster, easier, and more intuitive to share photos & albums with your family and friends.
  • 4X Faster Share Link Generation: We’ve also made it faster to generate a share link, reducing the wait time by 75 percent. Now, you can generate shareable links in a fraction of the time, ensuring that sharing photos is both fast and hassle-free.
  • Easier Link Copy and Share Options: We’ve also made copying and sharing links easier than ever before. With easy-to-access, intuitive options, you can quickly decide how you want to share your content — whether by copying the link, sharing via social media, or sending directly to your contacts.
  • Real-time Customization Preview: Before sharing a link, you can now view a real-time preview of any customization made to the shared album or content. This feature lets you see exactly how your content will appear to recipients, so you can tweak it to get the exact appearance you want.

Even more Lightroom updates

Lightroom Classic Performance Improvements: Our goal is to make every major version of Lightroom Classic better than the previous one. With this latest update, experience improved responsiveness while brushing masks, rotating crop angles, and adjusting white balance adjustments, especially for images with a lot of masks. Also, try out the optimizations for accessing and reading folders in your catalog.

Select Background (Available in Lightroom for Mobile, iPhone and Android): You can now easily make selective edits on the background of your photos directly from your phone, instead of having to switch to a larger-screen device, thanks to improvements in Lightroom Mobile’s AI masking tools.

Dual Monitor Support (Available in Lightroom): Need more space? You can now use Lightroom across two computer monitors. Using two screens can really streamline your workflow — many photographers like having the edit view open on one monitor and the grid view open on the other for maximum efficiency.

Lightroom for web features are available at lightroom.adobe.com — no download required. You can download Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, and Photoshop via the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

Adobe Illustrator is Now powered by Generative AI

Adobe Illustrator now includes cutting-edge Adobe Firefly powered Generative Recolor, which magically accelerates color variation development in graphics for ads, online content, packaging and more

Rapidly following Firefly-powered Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Express releases, Illustrator is the latest Creative Cloud application to benefit from Adobe’s advanced generative AI technologies

Adobe has just unveiled Generative Recolor (beta), the first integration of Adobe Firefly, an Adobe's family of creative generative AI models, in Adobe Illustrator at MAX London, enabling designers to quickly experiment with colors using simple text prompts.

Additionally, tools like chat with PDF (powered by generative AI) complement Adobe Acrobat's workflow too. The intuitive chat features can generate AI summaries to analyze PDFs, as well as help users fine-tune design details and content when formatting documents themselves.

Adobe Illustrator is mostly used to create logos, posters, packaging for products, websites and apparel designs. Global brands like Coca Cola and Land Rover use Adobe Illustrator to creates vector graphics — images that can be resized to be as large or small without a loss in quality of the image.

Adobe announced this integration of AI in Illustrator in its official blog post, saying, ".... you’re able to use Generative Recolor (beta), powered by Adobe Firefly, our family of creative generative AI models. This brand-new feature transforms colors in a magical way from a simple text prompt, sparking your imagination and pushing your creative boundaries".

Adobe is planning many more generative AI features for Illustrator that will accelerate the realization of creative vision of its users.

Firefly would automate and iterate previously manual and tedious processes in Illustrator, the beta release of Generative Recolor magically transforms colors in vector artwork.

Generative Recolor (beta) will transform vector artwork colors into various, energizing palettes and themes using everyday language.

Starting with an existing artwork, users can just type in a prompt such as “Neon lights” or “Salmon sushi”, and the entire graphic will be instantly recolored. Then adjust as you see fit to get a unique look — a great way to quickly experiment with different colors for your design.

Generative Recolor (beta) helps capture colors faster, as it enables Illustrator users to quickly try out an infinite array of colors, explore color palettes, and create multiple color combinations to match the vision you want your artwork to express. Color can be continuously changed, so you can keep editing your graphics at any time to take them further until you get just the right look and feel.

The automatically generated color variations can be used to create multiple color combinations from a single artwork file that you can apply anywhere whether it’s for social media, print, or the web

Generative AI features like Generative Recolor (beta) function as your trusted creative co-pilot that helps you explore your ideas faster and more efficiently. While it’s not for commercial use in the beta, you can still create confidently.

Notably, to protect misuse of anyone else work or intellectual property, Firefly is trained on Adobe Stock’s hundreds of millions of professional-grade licensed, high-resolution images, which helps ensure Firefly won’t generate content based on other people’s work, brands, or intellectual property.

To recall, in late month of May, Adobe also rolled out a feature called “Generative Fill” in Photoshop that let users zoom out from an image and let generative AI fill in what lays beyond. Users have since used the feature to expand popular memes and edit a selfie to look like the subject of the image was in a hospital.

Other New Features in Adobe Illustrator —

Retype (beta)

Detect a font from a static or non-editable text (either text from a raster image or outlined vector text). Retype identifies and pulls up the closest font matches from Adobe Fonts — no more sifting through thousands of fonts trying to find the one that matches your design!

Image Trace improvements

Converting raster images to vector art is now even easier with new enhancements to Image Trace. Auto-detect or choose an Image Trace preset, select any single color to ignore, and customize color modes. Adobe has also given the panel a fresh look and feel and introduced auto-detection for the recommended preset based on the image.

PDF enhancements

The new Illustrator release also includes new functionality based on users' requests. PDF Preset Memory, for example — when users save PDFs, their latest presets will be remembered and become the new default. Also, new working hyperlinks can be added to text and images when saving PDFs.
