ConveGenius Partners with Bihar Government to Build Atmanirbhar AI Stack

ConveGenius Partners with Bihar Government to Build Atmanirbhar AI Stack

AI-powered education and upskilling infrastructure provider ConveGenius.AI today said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Information Technology, Government of Bihar, to build Bihar’s Atmanirbhar AI infrastructure – marking a key step in India’s sovereign AI journey.

The MoU was signed today in Patna in the presence of Shri Nitish Mishra, Honourable Minister of IT, Government of Bihar, Sri Shahnawaz Ahmed Niyazee, Deputy Secretary, Department of IT, Government of Bihar, and Mr. Jairaj Bhattacharya, Co-founder & CEO, ConveGenius.AI.

Under this partnership, Bihar’s AI stack will be built and governed within the state. The Government of Bihar will retain control over its data and AI governance, with strong transparency and guardrails. The infrastructure will provide the foundation for AI models and services built around Bihar’s own context and data.

A key part of the partnership is the development of B-ONT, an ontological mind map covering the state’s schemes and services. Acting as a unified knowledge graph, B-ONT will bring together the technical and knowledge architecture of the state, enabling AI agents to intelligently navigate it and support citizens in accessing schemes and services. Implemented as an intangible state asset, the ontology will enable the creation of multiple agents and services accessible across departments and by citizens directly, unlocking cross-department service delivery and the creation of new public service capabilities and digital value on this asset.

This shared foundation can enable departments to build AI services faster and work together more seamlessly, while giving citizens simpler and more integrated access to government services. ConveGenius.AI will set up the infrastructure within Bihar while ensuring that data, governance and policy controls remain with the Government of Bihar.

Marrying education, skilling, with the capability of sovereign AI is going to be a gamechanger. It is very inspiring to see that Bihar is thinking ahead of the curve with the proposed AI policy. From our perspective, we are excited about building sovereign AI, and also semantic ontology for Bihar, which is going to be Bihar's asset that will connect to various departments in the state, and that will also create revenue generation opportunities,” said Mr. Jairaj Bhattacharya, Co-founder & CEO, ConveGenius.AI.

The partnership also supports the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision of preparing 1 crore youth with AI capabilities. Bihar’s AI infrastructure will power contextual skilling programmes that prepare young people for emerging jobs and future industries. It will also help workers, technicians and enterprises adopt AI, bringing workforce upskilling and industry transformation together.

For over 12 years, ConveGenius.AI has deployed large-scale technology infrastructure across Indian states, especially in education. Building on this experience, the company is now extending its capabilities to build AI infrastructure for education, skills, and citizen services.

ConveGenius.AI is bringing together global technology capabilities from partners including AWS, Adobe, Intel, Google and Snowflake to build for India. The approach combines world-class technology with local context, state-level control and responsible AI governance.

Backed by global investors including UBS Optimus Foundation, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF), Octave Capital, Mount Judi Ventures, and 3Lines Venture Capital, ConveGenius.AI is investing in India’s sovereign AI future and building the capability to execute at scale.

Through this partnership, ConveGenius.AI and the Government of Bihar aim to build an AI ecosystem that strengthens sovereignty, creates high-value technology opportunities, builds local AI talent, prepares youth for the future and delivers more meaningful services to the citizens of Bihar.

ConveGenius Uses Conversational AI to Deliver Education to 1.5 Crore Students Across Tier-3 Cities and Rural India

Since May 2020, the social enterprise's chat-based learning platform has reached 1.5 crore students from middle and low-income households in India across 10 mediums of instruction.

The WhatsApp learning sessions have recorded 98% completion rates per week with 80 lakh weekly active users.

New Delhi, 31st March 2021: Crossing another milestone in its stellar growth journey, ConveGenius, an EdTech social enterprise, has scaled its reach to 1.5 crore students in 11 months.Against the backdrop of the pandemic-led technological shift, the social enterprise moved from tablet-based adaptive learning to chatbot-assisted teaching and learning, thus boosting the outreach of its EdTech platform.

Viprav Chaudhary, VP-Operations, ConveGenius, had found that during the onslaught of Covid-19, access to digital devices was a major barrier to education for young students hailing from rural and remote regions in India. "While education shifted to the online medium in the wake of the pandemic, device inequity emerged as a major problem faced by a majority of students beyond tier-1 and tier-2 regions across the country," he commented."We realized that we needed to turn the adversity at hand into an opportunity to resolve this challenge effectively. We decided to transform our existing solution to a parent-based offering, moving from tablets to WhatsApp as the optimal vehicle of education. Parents and their wards were quarantined at home, and children could use their phones to access learning in, and despite, the viral outbreak."

The ConveGenius team adopted the chatbot-based model of learning by integrating WhatsApp APIs into their solution and using the messenger function to deliver small chunks of information and materials to students studying from home. The shift to WhatsApp was inspired by both device (tablet/PC) inequity highlighted by the viral outbreak, as well as the ubiquity of WhatsApp among Indian households across all socioeconomic backgrounds. The app's user-friendly interface further made it the ideal solution to deliver education to quarantined students while also enabling their parents to monitor and participate in the learning progress of their wards.

Since the launch of the chat-based teaching and learning platform inMay 2020, the startup has now scaled up to 1.5 crore students across 10 mediums of instructions, with learning sessions through the WhatsApp platform reaching 98% completion rates weekly. "Integrating WhatsApp into our EdTech solution has unlocked many benefits for not just students but also teachers and parents. Students can retain information better when they are empowered to access learning at their own pace. The conversational AI built into the platform allows us to push each student up personalized pathways of learning. Educators have been creating many educational videos in vernacular languages during the lockdown. The AI-led algorithm is designed to connect students with the most relevant content. Further, teachers have their own version of chatbots which gives them access to student data. This empowers them to map and shape the learning trajectories of their students while assessing their individual learning outcomes," Viprav adds.

Since its inception in 2014, the startup has raised funding worth INR 20 crores from institutional investors including Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF), Benori Ventures, Enablers, and angels such as Ashish Gupta, Founder, and Trustee, Ashoka University, among others. Its annual revenues for the financial year 2019-20 was INR 18.4 crore. Astride of the pandemic-induced, tech-led transformations in the education sector, the company is looking to reach 4-5 crore students from middle- and low-income households in 2021 as part of its 'EdTech for Naya Bharat (ETNB)' Mission.

EdTech Platform ConveGenius Registers 10X Growth Using WhatsApp to Reach 5 Mn Students in India

Eyes 20X growth by March 2021 with WhatsApp-based learning model

ConveGenius, an EdTech social enterprise, has witnessed 10X growth in its userbase across India. The accelerated growth trajectory can be attributed to the brand's unique Whatsapp-based EdTech model which allows it to reach students from all walks of life by collaborating with state governments and several low-fee private schools across the country. With this model, ConveGenius has reached 5 Million active users in India, across some of the most remote parts of the country. On average, exchanging nearly 10 million daily messages, ConveGenius's work is impacting students positively across the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Building on this momentum, the platform is eyeing 20X growth by March 2021.

The WhatsApp-based learning model by ConveGenius, which runs on WhatsApp BusinessAPI, has promoted student participation actively. Students completed over 70 million weekly learning transactions through their AI-based 'assessment and personalized learning platform', using 10 vernacular languages. Results show a high student-engagement rate with 95% of students completing their weekly learning modules in all partner states.

Commenting about this innovative use of WhatsApp, Abhijit Bose, Head of WhatsApp-India, said, "We're delighted that ConveGenius has used WhatsApp to successfully bring online education to students during this unprecedented time of the pandemic. More than ever before, all children need access to continued and engaging education, but the lack of access to phones or high-speed internet makes that difficult for many children in rural or remote areas of the country. We are committed to partnering with innovative companies like ConveGenius to deliver meaningful social impact and digital inclusion in the country."

In order to contribute to the overall goal of education reform, ConveGenius aids various state governments by providing them access to student performance dashboards. With many states struggling to find solutions to teach students during the period of COVID-19 crisis and resorting to measures like classes through television, this WhatsApp model augments their efforts in this direction seamlessly by helping them evaluate the performance of the students in their state/s in a more informed and holistic manner.

Speaking about this inspiring initiative, Shashank Pandey, Co-Founder, and President, ConveGenius said, "Our WhatsApp-based EdTech platform is very intuitive and engaging, and students feel as if they are chatting with their teachers. The potential of the platform to positively impact student learning outcomes in India is very strong, and we are very happy about our collaborative working relationship with WhatsApp. The real-time learning insights generated through the platform are being used to strengthen teaching and learning, at the last-mile, paving the way for transformational reforms in school education systems across the country."

On the ease of teaching and learning through ConveGenius's WhatsApp-based learning modules, Mrs. Manorama, a government school teacher from Madhya Pradesh, added "I do not know much about technology but I use WhatsApp quite often. Since the content was in my local language, it almost felt like having a conversation with a friend. It did not take me more than a day to figure out the learning programs and their customer support was quite helpful. Through this, I was able to help my students in their online learning."

The current pandemic has magnified the critical need for the education sector to accelerate a digital presence while ensuring that students and teachers stay connected and learn through modes that are simple and easy to use. With over 400 million users in India, WhatsApp is committed to scaling EdTech solutions and supporting ConveGenius in its efforts to transform access to quality education across India.

ConveGenius Partners with Rajasthan Government & Aavas Foundation to Strengthen Home Learning Initiatives in Rajasthan

The involvement of technology in education, which was once thought of as optional and luxurious has become the new normal, in fact, the only normal. As schools continue to remain shut for safety reasons, technology becomes the backbone education is standing on these days. However, everyone is aware of the undeniable digital divide in India. Students enrolled in low-fee private and government schools are unable to access education because they don't have enough resources for LIVE classes on expensive EdTech platforms.

Students partaking online classes mention the problems they face due to internet issues as several sections of the LIVE class are missed and there is hardly any time for doubt clearance in 2-3 hour-long sessions.

Looking out for these students, ConveGenius has partnered with the Rajasthan government under their ‘Aao Ghar Mein Seekhein’ program to provide practical EdTech solutions that can be accessed through an AI-based WhatsApp chatbot. The EdTech model is implemented through formative assessments, individual feedback, and content recommendations for personalized learning of students; following the syllabus taught in schools. The AI-based chatbot uses interactive, child-friendly, and asynchronous learning methods that can benefit anyone with a smartphone of any range with internet quality of 2G/ 3G.

Ever since ConveGenius has evolved their tech-stack, it has allowed multiple students to access the foundational learning curriculum for subjects like Math, Hindi, English, and Science through a single smartphone. The tech stack individually stores the learning data of each student which is extracted through weekly assessments taken by the students. These assessments identify students’ performance and their weak points to provide targeted content and recorded classes that reduce their doubts and support remedial learning.

The EdTech model was launched on 19th September 2020 in all 33 districts of the state with the support of CSR partners like Aavas Financiers Ltd.

Commenting on the latest development, Mr. Ghanshyam Rawat, Trustee at Aavas Foundation, the CSR arm of Aavas Financiers Limited, said, “As our response to COVID-19, we want to stand with the children of Rajasthan and help them continue their education amid nation-wide school closures. The support for setting up a home learning program in Rajasthan adds another dimension to Aavas Foundation’s CSR initiatives, with a focus on integrated community development. As a responsible corporate, we fully support and applaud the efforts by Rajasthan Government and ConveGenius in reaching out to millions of children via EdTech who otherwise could have dropped out of the education system.”

Shri Deepak Moond, Deputy Director, Rajasthan Council of School Education, also commented on the partnership saying, “The assessment-based learning model by ConveGenius promotes at-home learning that moves with student’s pace and it has reached more than 1,65,000 students of Rajasthan in only three weeks. The model in Rajasthan has already witnessed a more than 95% completion rate i.e. the percentage of students who completed their weekly modules. The large-scale assessment data is very helpful in improving teaching methods and identifying the scope of improvement in students. The performance of students on the basis of their learning objectives will be leveraged to effectively plan bottom-up educational reforms across the state.”

“Having reached more than 4 million students already, ConveGenius aims to make affordable and quality education accessible to the bottom 100 million students in India. With our experience of working in several states including Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, etc, ConveGenius is ready to extend that impact in the state of Rajasthan. This partnership is a crucial move towards ConveGenius’s campaign #EdTechForNayaBharat,” added Viprav Chaudhary, Vice-President, ConveGenius.

The motive behind this initiative is to provide the Anganwadi children with the same infrastructure and facility that the private schools have. Ever since the pandemic, thousands of students across the country are adjusting to the new normal of online learning. There are several ways that online education can help to improve the learning experience of children. It increases the level of children's engagement with materials through the use of interactive graphics, video, and other media.
