Employees Spend over 3 Hours a Day on Easily Automatable Tasks: Study

Office workers are ready to welcome automation of repetitive digital tasks, as on an average employees spend more than three hours a day on mundane computer tasks which are not part of their primary job and are ripe for human error, a survey said on Tuesday.

According to a global study commissioned by Automation Anywhere, in India, out of 1,000 participants surveyed, 88 per cent believe humans should not be carrying out repetitive administrative tasks if they can be automated.

The research by the robotic process automation player noted that nearly half of workers surveyed found digital administration boring and a poor use of their skills, while majority of respondents said it gets in the way of doing their main job and reduces their overall productivity.

With an 8-hour workday being the global norm, according to the survey, the average employee loses 60 hours per month to easily automatable tasks.

By deploying a digital workforce and automating these repetitive tasks, employees could be given back a quarter of their annual work time (4.5 months) to focus on more meaningful work, boosting productivity and overall business value.

At the very top of the "hated task" heap is general data entry – manually inputting data into a computer or other devices, followed closely by managing e-mail traffic and filing digital documents – such as documents, spreadsheets, images or PDFs - into the correct digital folder.

Compiling reports from IT and software systems and invoice management round out the top five most hated tasks, the survey noted.

"Close to 80 per cent of the participants in India believe that admin work is an obstacle for them to do their main job," said Milan Sheth, Executive Vice President India, Middle East & Africa, Automation Anywhere.

Sheth further said "workers can focus on higher value tasks if the mundane repetitive tasks can be automated".

As per the report, more than 95 per cent of participants in India are open to the idea of working alongside digital co-workers/software bots. Besides, 55 per cent of respondents said they would consider leaving a job if this manual administrative load became too high, while 85 per cent would be attracted to work at a company that invested in automation to reduce repetitive digital administration tasks.

Automation Anywhere commissioned independent research group OnePoll to conduct 10,500 interviews with office workers in 11 countries around the world in 2019. Respondents represented a variety of demographic groups, job levels, industry sectors and company sizes. PTI DRR DRR

The company said it also plans to double its workforce across IMEA (India, the Middle East, Africa) by the end of the current year.

As part of its expansion strategy, Automation Anywhere would strengthen its presence in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Vadodara as well as open new offices in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, the release said.

Currently, the company has three engineering centres in India two in Bengaluru and one in Baroda.

Softbank-backed Automation Anywhere Acquires Klevops of Paris

Automation Anywhere, a provider of robotic process automation (RPA), on Friday said it has acquired Paris-based Klevops. The company however, didn't disclose the deal amount. RPA technology refers to the use of software robots (bots) to automate business processes that are currently managed manually by human workers.

Last November, Automation Anywhere had raised $300 million from the SoftBank's tech-focused Vision Fund bringing the company's valuation to $2.6 billion. Besides, SoftBank, Automation Anywhere counts New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, as its investors, had raised well over USD 500 million (over Rs 3,450 crore).

"With the acquisition, Automation Anywhere fast forwards the RPA category to Attended Automation 2.0, where managers can easily orchestrate workstreams across a team of employees and bots, driving a higher level of employee productivity and improved customer experience," a statement said.

The acquired technology from Klevops will alter the dynamics between attended and unattended automation, making it a foundational solution for companies scaling their automation initiatives across all industries, Automation Anywhere Chief Technology Officer Prince Kohli said.

He added that this is especially relevant to contact centre-intensive industries like banking, financial services and telecommunications.

"As the demand for RPA continues to increase across multiple industries, acquisitions like this one will be part of Automation Anywhere's growth strategy as we continue to help solve customer pain points and automate a greater number of business processes," Automation Anywhere Chief Corporate Development Officer Peter Meechan said.

The combined solution of Klevops and Automation Anywhere's attended automation creates the industry's first capability to enable bots driving actions with multiple human teams to coordinate their activities, he added.

Automation Anywhere was originally founded as Tethys Solutions, LLC in San Jose, California by Ankur Kothari, Mihir Shukla, Neeti Mehta, and Rushabh Parmani. The company re-branded to Automation Anywhere, Inc. in 2010.

Automation Anywhere Raises $300 Mn from Softbank Vision Fund At $2.6 Bn Valuation

Indian-American founded "software bots for enterprises" firm Automation Anywhere has announced that it has raised $300 million from the SoftBank's tech-focused Vision Fund bringing the company's valuation to $2.6 billion.

Based out of California, US, Automation Anywhere had earlier raised $250 million in Series A funding in July and with this fresh funding from Softbank, the company's total financing is now over $500 million.

"With this additional capital, we are in a position to do far more than any other provider. We will not only continue to deliver the most advanced RPA to the market, but we will help bring Artificial Intelligence (AI) to millions," said Mihir Shukla, CEO and Co-Founder at Automation Anywhere.

The latest funding is subject to regulatory approvals and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions and is an expansion to the company's series A round.

Founded in 2003, by Mihir Shukla, Ankur Kothari, Neeti Mehta, and Rushabh Parmani, Automation Anywhere is a provider of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), a technology that refers to use of software robots (bots) to automate business processes that are currently managed manually by human workers.

RPA or 'Software Bots' are digital workers which can complete mundane tasks, and also tackle more complicated problems as well. RPA enables companies to automate business processes, increasing productivity and enabling people to focus on more challenging and fulfilling work.

Automation Anywhere offers a complete suite of products capable of automating business processes at scale.

"Enterprises of all sizes are in the midst of a major transition to digital platforms and we are excited to partner with Automation Anywhere to accelerate this transformation," added Praveen Akkiraju, Managing Partner at Softbank Investment Advisers.

According to Automation Anywhere, it has about 1,500 enterprise customers including General Motors, Mastercard, and LinkedIn. They use its software to automate processes in functions ranging from supply-chain logistics to accounting.

The financing builds on an exceptional year for Automation Anywhere, which saw a rapidly growing roster of marquee customers (some of which can be seen here) and key executive appointments globally.

Following its Series A funding in July, Automation Anywhere announced it has so far this year established nine new locations based in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Miami, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo, Toronto, Warsaw and Washington, DC.

These new locations bring the company's total number of global offices to 19, including four others in the US, three in India, and one each in London, Melbourne and Singapore, Automation Anywhere said in a statement on Wednesday.

Automation Anywhere has opened its Bot Store, an app store-like marketplace of downloadable bot applications that are designed by the company and its partner ecosystem to meet specific automation requirements for common business processes. Additionally, the company has also announced that its enterprise solution would soon be available in traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.
