10 months ago, Chirag Gupta, Himanshu Agarwal, Aakaar Gandhi and Gautam Yadav pivoted from their role in the hotel business to solve the problems and cater to the increasing demand for alternative accommodation.

After raising their first round 3 months ago by Naspers backed Travel Boutique Online (TBO), today they raised an undisclosed amount in their second round of funding by travel savvy investors led by Dheeraj Jain (Redcliffe Capital), Nitin Passi, Manickam Mahalingam, Udaan Angels, Rajesh Arora, and Arkas Industries. The big boys in the travel space including Aloke Bajpai, CEO and Founder, IXIGO.com are advising Deyor Camps to ensure the right growth path.

Deyor Camps provides its alternative accommodation and activity providers with a mobile app and a web link to manage inventory daily. This inventory is further linked automatically with all OTAs and other portals including Deyor’s own portal to ensure no override of bookings. Deyor Camps thrives on a 0 bounce rate of bookings and ensures each traveler gets the stay or activity they had booked for.

A special content team travels to each property with a direction to ensure that the traveller gets to taste the experience of the property even before he reaches there.

Word from Investor: "Deyor Camps is a mass-market product, piloting in India, building India's first and only chain of branded camps, cottages and activities while cementing an underlying business around providing quality outdoor accommodation and thrilling experiences for adventure travellers. Operating in a monopolistic nature in this sector, Deyor Camps is a technology platform, which makes booking camping trips as simple as booking a hotel room, hence, structuring a highly fragmented sector," said Dheeraj Jain.

"We noticed that adventure travel is not just about booking a camp and living in the middle of nature, its also centered around thrilling activities which are not usually part of the camping experience. For example, very few people are aware that Paragliding is a possibility just 45 minutes from Gurgaon and such awareness of thrilling activities are brought to light by Deyor Camps. We list our activities as value add services on our platform and are expecting to see a similar traction as we have seen for our campsite bookings," said Chirag Gupta, CEO, Deyor Camps.

The New Style of Travel: The traditional styles of traveling and staying in hotels have become monotonous with people preferring alternative accommodations. These would include tents, cottages, resorts, cabanas, tree houses etc. Alternative accommodations can also get monotonous with very little to do at the property. Deyor Camps, the meta distributor of alternative accommodation and activities helps solve this monotony by including a wide range of activities to choose from to keep the person active during their stay.

Word from Founder: “If Adventure and Travel were to marry, Deyor Camps would be the baby. It’s been a real emotional roller coaster ride, watching our baby grow up into a platform that has engaged 10,000+ travelers, spreading over 170+ properties, across 55+ cities, and 200+ activities”, said Gautam, Founder, Deyor Camps.

An Unusual Team: 23 year old, Chirag Gupta has been growing Deyor Camps’ user base at the rate of 51% MoM and is cash flow positive, with an unusual team that includes travel enthusiasts and wanderers averaging an age of 26 waiting for the very next chance to explore new places, new sites and new activities.

Word from Client: “Our Ladakh biking trip would have been a complete mess, if it was not for Deyor Camps who helped us get accommodations at the right camping sites on our way from Manali to Leh”, said Ishant Anand, Royal Enfield Group, Delhi.

With less than 10 team members, this team surfed the recent huge waves of “startups surge/downturn” and emerged profitable by keeping cost of operations at bare minimum. By end of 2016, Deyor Camps aims to touch more than 25,000 travellers and is looking to partner with more alternative accommodation properties and activity organizers as it grows.
