The Cochin, Kerala based startup is an online marketplace for food which allows people on their travel to order food from their favourite restaurants from anywhere in the country and then gets the order delivered to them at their train seats.
In simple words, YatraChef is service provider that helps you to order your favourite food from different restaurants and food points during your train journey in just few clicks or through a phone call and the ordered food gets delivered at your seat.
CEO and Co-founder Arun Rajan got the idea for the startup from his own personal experience. Arun was down with food poisoning after consuming poor quality train food in 2013. This prompted him to take the charge and change the situation. The startup has been incubated Kerala's famous 'Startup Village' accelerator, currently bootstrapped but is hoping to expand its business by raising funds from investors.
The passengers can order the food either by placing the order on the YatraChef website and if you don't have internet connection simply call the call centre (0 8137 8137 00) or even through WhatsApp. The passengers will have to give their PNR number or journey details while placing the order and the system will then automatically populate their path and provide them with details where their services are available en route and also inform them about the service providers available at each station. The passenger can either pay online or avail the option of cash on delivery.

The startup even offers discounts on certain holidays and group orders. The group orders are delivered 24x7 but no individual orders are taken post 10 PM. To make it easier for people to order online, the startup even offers a live chat option where a web based operator console offers on the go service and help to customers visiting the startup’s site. The startup makes sure that every restaurant associated with it has its Health and Safety certificates issued by the Government in check. YatraChef is also in talks with some major food joints of the country to be their clientele.
