Karnataka Govt. & NASSCOM to setup unique hack-celerator for entrepreneurs

The Karnataka government is working hard to increase the entrepreneurial activity in the state. It has also come out with a lot of measures aiming for the same.

Working towards its aim, Karnataka government has been successful in launching a first of its kind hack-celerator. It is a place where a person can be tested for his or her entrepreneurial aptitude. It involves setting up 9 academic incubators in tier 2 and 3 cities.

According to SR Patil, who is Karnataka’s Minister for IT, BT, Science and Technology, the state is not trying to compete with its neighboring states; it’s only competing with the Silicon Valley.

He also added that 6 new Wi-Fi hotspots will soon be launched in Bangalore.

Nasscom's startup warehouse, which currently has over 8,000 sq ft area and houses some 28 startups is all set to increase its area to 50,000 sq ft.

Karnataka's hackcelerator event will be much similar to Hackcelerator event conducted by US based AngelHack, which is actually a pre-accelerator program for startups.

The NextGen edition of the Nasscom's startup warehouse, which is in addition to the hack-celerator, is all set to include an Internet of Things lab, a design centre, a mobile devices lab with an upto date library of all the latest devices for the startups to trial test their products on.

The Karnataka government will reportedly shell out anywhere between 4 to 5 crore for making this initiative come to life. It can be expected to become operational by the end of this year. Once finished, it would have the capacity to seat over 400 entrepreneurs.  According to Nasscom, the applications for this new facility would open immediately.

According to Ravi Gururaj, who is the chairman of Nasscom Product Council, every week the warehouse sees a number of big companies visiting it and spending quality time with the startups. He considers that the warehouse is soon turning into a focal point for all the innovations to take place.

The state government has also done a separate deal with Snapdeal to take micro, small and medium enterprises to market. This deal is almost ready and is currently undergoing testing. Apparently, talks are also on with Amazon and Flipkart would soon be approached for the same.
