Flipkart Marketplace tie-up with SMEs to boost Entrepreneurship in India

India's e-commerce giant Flipkart has lately announced a tie-up with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in India to promote manufacturing and entrepreneurship in the country.

On Wednesday, Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with industry body promoting SMEs Federation of Indian Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME) and National Center for Design and Product Development (NCDPD), a body that promotes handicraft design in India.

The tie-up is primarily to promote Flipkart flagship model called - Flipkart Marketplace, which the company has launched in April this year. This tie-up allow Flipkart to host products from 50,000 small enterprises and artisans as it scales up its marketplace.

The association will however provide two-way benefits to both Flipkart as well as Small entrepreneurs across India, to SMEs and small entrepreneurs in India Flipkart will provide platform to them to sell their products directly to buyers across the nation which in turn boost entrepreneurship in India especially in rural areas where small sellers do not have enough opportunity to bring their products on selling platform with right price and with this small sellers do not need to think about shipping hassle to end-users.

Flipkart will provide micro, small and medium entrepreneurs in India infrastructural support in data analytics, marketing and customer acquisition to help them scale their business. Moving forward with pact between Flipkart and SMEs in India, Flipkart will help SMEs in product pricing, payment automation, packaging, transportation and brand building through its portal.

"We are excited to partner with FISME and NCDPD to create a powerful affiliation that will enable 50,000 SMEs and artisans become self-reliant, improve their living standards and scale their business manifold," Ankit Nagori, VP of Flipkart Marketplace.

The signed MoU based tie-up will help Flipkart in expanding its seller base and brand name across the SMEs arena in India as well as help small and medium firms, SMEs to become up-to-date with the changing market requirements.

Similar to Amazon and Homeshop18.com, Flipkart's marketplace model allow individual sellers display their products on Flipkart.com, unlike the inventory model where the portal itself owns and stocks the products on offer.
