Vikram Solar Seals 1 GW Pact with Avaada Electro to Bolster India’s DCR Supply Chain

Vikram Solar Seals 1 GW Pact with Avaada Electro to Bolster India’s DCR Supply Chain

Kolkata: Vikram Solar, a pioneer in Indian solar module manufacturing, has entered into a domestic cell supply agreement with Avaada Electro, reinforcing its foothold in India’s fast-expanding Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) segment and strengthening long-term supply-chain resilience.

Under the agreement, Avaada Electro will supply 1 GW of ALMM-compliant domestically manufactured half-cut N-Type G12R TOPCon solar cells for Vikram Solar’s module manufacturing operations. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in September 2026, ensuring consistency in supply and operational continuity to meet the country's growing DCR requirements.

This agreement marks a further step in Vikram Solar's penetration of the domestic DCR market and its strategy to diversify and strengthen its cell supply chain, adding to the supply agreements the company has entered into earlier this year. It also complements Vikram Solar's backward integration strategy, anchored by its upcoming 9 GW high-efficiency solar cell manufacturing facility, scheduled to commission in Q4 FY27.

Mr. Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman & Managing Director, Vikram Solar, said:

"The next phase of India's solar growth will be won or lost on supply chain depth, not just manufacturing scale. This arrangement is another step in that direction- one that widens our supplier base, strengthens our hand on DCR, and gives us the confidence to commit to India's energy security with fewer variables outside our control. Atmanirbhar Bharat won't be built by any single partnership; it'll be built by companies that keep making these choices, year after year.”

Vikram Solar Launches India's First M6 PV Modules

  • Vikram Solar introduces next-generation higher efficiency Series 6 PV modules
  • 1st Indian Tier 1 module manufacturer to introduce the Series 6 with advanced M6 cells in India and across the globe

For Representation Only

Chennai , Jan 6, 2021: Vikram Solar, India’s leading module manufacturer, Solar EPC player and O&M solutions provider today announced the launch of its Series 6 modules- Somera and Prexos, with next-generation M6 type of cells- a superior, advanced technology module. The new Series 6 modules will provide higher power output of up to 505 watt-peak (Wp) and efficiency of more than 21%. The Series 6 modules are also cost-effective as it reduces the overall project cost and increases project-level cost savings for the customers.

The specially designed modules have less land requirements, subsequently leading to reduced costs pertaining to cabling, civil works and Operations and Maintenance (O&M).

The Series 6 multi-busbar (MBB) modules will be available in both the monofacial and bifacial categories and are called Somera Series 6 and Prexos Series 6 respectively. Both come with the technologically advanced M6 cell and Mono PERC technology and are available in variants ranging from 120, 144 and 156 half-cut cells. The 120 half-cut cell variant is exclusively for the US & International markets.

The technological advancements used to create the new Series 6 products ensure the MBB half-cut PV modules deliver higher performance even in low light and partial shadow environments. Thereby enabling solar power to be harnessed in earlier unviable sites and varied terrains. The modules have been designed with specially curated number and shape of busbars that ensure higher efficiency and boost module power and performance.

Vikram Solar Series 6 key highlights and features
  1. Excellent low light performance and guaranteed performance in partial shadow conditions
  2. Higher number and rounded busbars increase efficiency and module performance
  3. Available in 120, 144 and 156 cell versions and has efficiency ranging between 18.34% to 21.02% (depending on cell version)
    1. Both Prexos and Somera Series 6 is available in 120, 144 and 156 cell variants
    2. The Somera 120, 144 & 156 half-cut cell variant will primarily be available in the US and International market. It is also available in ‘All black’ variant
  4. Lesser cell stress during module fabrication lowers the risk of module degradation in extreme weather conditions
  5. The new upgraded material of bifacial modules provides greater resistance to heat and is more durable in fluctuating temperatures
  6.  Prexos Series 6 will also have near –zero PID (potential induced degradation) because of a PID resistant encapsulant=
