Tata Technologies Faces Ransomware Attack Resulting Temporary Suspension of Some of Its IT Services

Tata Technologies recently experienced a ransomware attack that affected some of its IT assets. The attack led to the temporary suspension of certain IT services. However, Tata Technologies confirmed that their client delivery services remained fully functional and unaffected throughout the incident.

The ransomware incident was discovered on January 31, 2025. Tata Technologies did not disclose whether a ransom was demanded or paid.

A detailed investigation is underway in consultation with experts to assess the root cause and take necessary remedial actions.

The company has restored the affected services and launched a detailed investigation to determine the root cause and take necessary remedial actions.

CEO Warren Harris highlighted the importance of increased funding for upskilling initiatives aligned with Industry 4.0 to support India's economic growth.

Tata Technologies emphasized its commitment to maintaining high standards of security and data protection. They are working closely with experts to mitigate any potential risks associated with the attack.

This incident highlights the growing cybersecurity challenges faced by companies, especially in sectors like engineering and technology.

Last December, Deloitte UK was reportedly cyberattacked for whopping 1 TB of sensitive data by ransomware group called Brain Cipher Ransomware.

Last year, Infosys' U.S.-based subsidiary, McCamish Systems, experienced a significant data breach due to a ransomware attack attributed to the LockBit ransomware operation, and data from over 6.078 million individuals was compromised.

Air India Receives Approval to Modify Aircraft Interiors In-House with Tata Technologies

Air India, India’s leading global airline, has received the Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) designated as CAR 21 approval. A significant milestone, this will enable Air India to independently make design changes in-house and implement modifications to its aircraft interiors more efficiently.

Air India is the first airline in India to attain this level of authorisation, accelerating its ability to execute restoration tasks for continuous improvement of its fleet.

The approval was handed over to Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Air India by D.C. Sharma, Director General, DGCA on 25 October 2024 in the presence of other senior officials of Air India and DGCA, the civil aviation regulator.

Air India had earlier entered a collaboration with Tata Technologies, a global engineering and product development digital services company, to enhance aircraft interiors in its fleet aligned with the CAR 21 approval for aircraft modifications. The DOA is a transformative step towards enhancing Air India’s in-house capabilities, which has been bolstered by decisions to set up its own engineering, maintenance and training facilities. This will enhance operational efficiency and make the airline more self-reliant.

BMW and Tata Technologies Forms New JV BMW TechWorks India

BMW Group and Tata Technologies have launched a new Joint Venture (JV) — BMW TechWorks India. This new global hub is focused on Al, automotive software, and business processes.

BMW Group and Tata Technologies each hold a 50% share in this joint venture. The JV will have offices in strategic talent hubs in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

The Joint Venture (JV) will innovate automotive software, including software-defined vehicles (SDV) and digital transformation solutions for business IT.

The newly formed organisation will leverage resources from BMW Group’s India and Munich operations as well as Tata Technologies, TCS and Tata Elxsi to not only develop software and new innovations for in-car systems, but also manage business and manufacturing processes for BMW Group across the world.

BMW TechWorks India will work on software-defined vehicles (SDV), automated driving, Al applications, next-gen infotainment systems, and business IT solutions.

The joint venture will start with 100 employees and rapidly scale to a four-digit workforce by the end of 2025. This collaboration aims to drive digital innovation in the automotive industry and strengthen BMW's global strategy by leveraging top-tier Indian talent.

India’s exceptional engineering and IT talent will play a pivotal role in developing strategic software solutions for SDVs, automated driving, digital infotainment, and automotive digital services. In addition to automotive software, the joint venture will provide digital innovations for the BMW Group’s Business IT.

Consequently, BMW TechWorks India will expedite the digital transformation of the car manufacturer’s global production network as well as strengthen its digital customer journey and sales processes. Another key area of focus will be the development of AI applications and platforms, which will increase the speed and efficiency of all core business processes.

The management team of BMW TechWorks India is comprised of seasoned executives from both partner companies. Representing Tata Technologies are Aditya Khera as CEO and Sweta Girinatham as CFO of this JV. From the BMW Group, Stefan Flader serves as COO of Enterprise IT, and Oliver Scheickl holds the position of COO of Automotive Software in this new JV.

Apart from the recent joint venture with Tata Technologies, BMW has engaged in several other collaborations with Indian companies. BMW and an another Tata Group company, Tata Motors, have a long-standing partnership, including the production of the BMW X1 and BMW X3 models in India.

BMW and Bajaj Auto have collaborated on the development of the BMW K1600 B motorcycle, which is designed and manufactured in India.

BMW has also partnered with Mahindra & Mahindra for various projects, including the development of electric vehicles and mobility solutions.

Tata Technologies has announced the termination of its Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Chhattisgarh Government. This agreement was initially aimed at upgrading 36 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Centers of Excellence (CoE) in the state.

The termination of the agreement between Tata Technologies and the Chhattisgarh Government was primarily due to the state government's decision to explore other alternatives to achieve the project goals. This led to the mutual decision to end the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for upgrading 36 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Centers of Excellence (CoE).

Tata Technologies has agreed to initiate the refund process for the escrow amount.

It was in June last year when the Chhattisgarh government has launched various skill development initiatives to empower its diverse workforce and enable the state manufacturing and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) industry.

The Chhattisgarh Government decided to explore other alternatives to achieve the project goals.

Meanwhile, Tata Technologies has seen a 16% decline in its stock price since its strong debut. Analysts have lowered target prices due to disappointing quarterly results, impacting investor sentiment.

Last month, Tata Technologies has announced partnership with Arm to drive innovation in software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and collaborated with Microsoft and Tata Motors for the InnoVent hackathon, focusing on Generative AI.

The project was notable for its efficiency, as Tata Technologies managed to reduce the implementation timeline by approximately 25% by leveraging accelerators and digital transformation solutions. This swift deployment was aligned with the operational commencement of Mitsubishi Electric India's new manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune.

The successful deployment of SAP S/4 HANA has provided Mitsubishi Electric India with end-to-end visibility, data agility, and a unified data source for better decision-making based on real-time information. This strategic collaboration has set new benchmarks in the industry and is a testament to Tata Technologies' expertise in digital services and product engineering.

The project also included incorporating digital signatures and configuring document management system servers. This intricate task had to be completed within a stringent timeframe, including the mapping of entire business processes across their business units.

Leveraging its global footprint and a diverse team of experts, Tata Technologies facilitated a seamless SAP S/4 HANA implementation for Mitsubishi Electric India within an 11-month timeline, achieving a 25% reduction in the original schedule.

SAP S/4 HANA transforms businesses by providing a unified, real-time view of operations, simplifying complex processes, and enabling quicker, more informed decisions that lead to enhanced operational efficiency.

The BMW Group and Tata Technologies, a global product engineering and digital services company have announced that they have signed an agreement to form a Joint Venture (JV) with the aim to establish an automotive software and IT development hub in Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai, India. The execution of the JV agreement is subject to review and approval by the relevant authorities.

The main development and operations activities shall be established at Bengaluru and Pune. In Chennai, the focus shall be on business IT solutions.

Embodying the ethos of ‘engineer in India for the world’, the JV will leverage Tata Technologies’ digital engineering expertise and talent pool in India to contribute to the BMW Group’s strategic expansion of software coding capabilities across global IT hubs and 24/7 operations.

The JV will focus on strategic software development, including solutions for software-defined vehicles (SDV). In automotive software, the focus will be on automated driving, infotainment, and digital services. In business IT, the emphasis will be on digitalization and automation of product development, production and sales. From the inception of this JV, 100 trained and experienced Tata Technologies professionals will ensure robust and immediate contributions to software projects. The JV is likely to grow quickly to a four-digit number in the following years.

Tata Technologies, a global engineering and product development digital services company, has signed a 5-year Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Telangana to modernize 65 government-owned ITIs across the state with a total project cost of INR 2324 Crores. This collaboration is an extension of Tata Technologies’ efforts to support projects of high social impact and complement the efforts of the Telangana Government to enhance the availability of skilled talent and attract investments from industries desirous of setting-up manufacturing infrastructure in Telangana. The upgraded Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) will serve as Skill Development Centers, strengthening the technical proficiency and employability of students. By training a workforce that is not only highly skilled in Industry 4.0 tools & technologies but also primed for immediate industry deployment, these centres will stimulate the economic progression and holistic development of the state.

The Telangana government has launched various skill development initiatives to empower its diverse workforce and support the state’s manufacturing and MSME industries. The upgradation and modernization of the ITIs will facilitate upskilling in sectors related to Industry 4.0, Product Design & Development, Product Verification and Virtual analysis, Design for Artisans and Handicrafts, Additive manufacturing (3D printing), Modern Automotive Maintenance Repair and Overhaul, Battery Electric Vehicle Training, IoT and Digital Instrumentation, Process Control and Automation with HMI, PLC SCADA, Advanced Manufacturing and Prototyping, Industrial Robotics with arc welding, AI-based Virtual Welding & Painting, Advanced Plumbing, Digital Meters, Agriculture and Horticulture, and much more.

The MOA signing ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, along with other dignitaries from the Telangana Government and the leadership team of Tata Technologies. The Labour and Employment Department of Telangana briefed the dignitaries about the collaboration program and skill development initiatives.

Tata Technologies, the first Tata Group company to go public in since 2004, now valued at ₹532.64 billion ($6.4 billion).

Tata Technologies, a subsidiary of Tata Motors (TML), made an impressive market debut on Thursday, November 30, listing at a 140% premium to the issue price of ₹500. The stock opened at ₹1,200 on the NSE and ₹1199.95 on the BSE.

The ₹3,042.51 crore issue of Tata Technologies is also the best listing since November 2021 for an IPO size of greater than ₹500 crore. The last IPO from the Tata Group was Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)in 2004.

With its market listing, Tata Technologies beat the valuation of its peers like KPIT Technologies (KPIE.NS), L&T Technology Services (LTEH.NS) and sister Tata Group company Tata Elxsi.

Tata Technologies is a pure-play manufacturing-focused engineering research and development (ER&D) company, primarily focused on the automotive industry.

Its revenue CAGR over the last three years has far exceeded that of Tata Elxsi, L&T Technologies, and KPIT Technologies. Its EBITDA margin, at 23.7 ℅ remains more or less equal to industry standards. With a P/E ratio of 18.2x, the Tata Technologies IPO was priced fairly, said analysts.

The Price Band of the Offer has been fixed from ₹ 475 per Equity Share to ₹ 500 per Equity Share. Bids can be made for a minimum of 30 Equity Shares and multiples of 30 Equity Shares thereafter.

The Company’s initial public offering comprises an offer for sale of up to 60,850,278 Equity Shares for cash. The Offer consists of (a) sale of up to 46,275,000 Equity Shares by Tata Motors Limited, (b)sale of up to 9,716,853 Equity Shares by Alpha TC Holdings Pte. Ltd. and (c)sale of up to 4,858,425 Equity Shares by Tata Capital Growth Fund I.

This Offer is being made in terms of Rule 19(2)(b) of the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Rules, 1957, as amended and read with Regulation 31 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Issue of Capital and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2018 (“SEBI ICDR Regulations”). The Offer is being made in accordance with Regulation 6(1) of the SEBI ICDR Regulations and through the Book Building Process wherein not more than 50% of the Net Offer shall be available for allocation on a proportionate basis to Qualified Institutional Buyers (“QIBs”, and such portion, the “QIB Portion”). The Company may, in consultation with the Book Running Lead Managers, allocate up to 60% of the QIB Portion to Anchor Investors on a discretionary basis in accordance with the SEBI ICDR Regulations (“Anchor Investor Portion”), out of which at least one-third shall be available for allocation to domestic Mutual Funds only, subject to valid Bids being received from the domestic Mutual Funds at or above the Anchor Investor Allocation Price. In the event of under-subscription or non-allocation in the Anchor Investor Portion, the balance Equity Shares shall be added to the Net QIB Portion. Further, 5% of the Net QIB Portion shall be available for allocation on a proportionate basis to Mutual Funds only, and the remainder of the Net QIB Portion shall be available for allocation on a proportionate basis to all QIB Bidders other than Anchor Investors, including Mutual Funds, subject to valid Bids being received at or above the Offer Price. Further, not less than 15% of the Net Offer shall be available for allocation to Non-Institutional Bidders such that: (a) one-third of the portion available to Non-Institutional Bidders shall be reserved for applicants with application size of more than ₹ 200,000 and up to ₹ 1,000,000, and (b) two-thirds of the portion available to Non-Institutional Bidders, shall be reserved for applicants with an application size of more than ₹1,000,000, provided that the unsubscribed portion in either of the categories specified in (a) or (b) above, may be allocated to Bidders in the other sub-category of Non-Institutional Bidders, subject to valid Bids being received at or above the Offer Price and not less than 35% of the Net Offer shall be available for allocation to Retail Individual Bidders in accordance with SEBI ICDR Regulations, subject to valid Bids being received at or above the Offer Price. Further, Equity Shares will be allocated on a proportionate basis to Eligible Employees Bidding in the Employee Reservation Portion and Eligible TML Shareholders Bidding in the TML Shareholders Reservation Portion, subject to valid Bids received from them at or above the Offer Price. All Bidders, other than Anchor Investors, are required to mandatorily utilise the Application Supported by Blocked Amount (“ASBA”) process by providing details of their respective bank account (including UPI ID (defined hereinafter) in case of UPI Bidders), pursuant to which their corresponding Bid Amounts will be blocked by the SCSBs or the Sponsor Banks as applicable, to participate in the Offer. Anchor Investors are not permitted to participate in the Anchor Investor Portion through the ASBA process.

The Equity Shares offered through the Red Herring Prospectus are proposed to be listed on both BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited.

Ahead of the IPO, Tata Motors will sell 9.9% stake in Tata Technologies for about Rs 1,614 crore. TPG Rise Climate will pick up about 9% stake in the transaction, which valued Tata Technologies at Rs 16,300 crore ($2 billion) while Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation will buy the remaining 0.9% from Tata Motors.

TPG Rise Climate previously invested $ 1 billion in Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited and Tata Motors to create an electric passenger mobility business that is shaping the market in India Journey has a strategic partner.

Tata Motors said the transaction is expected to be completed by October 27, 2023. The parent, Tata Motors, will receive ₹1,467 crore on selling its 9% stake in Tata Technologies to TPG Rise Climate and ₹146.7 crore on selling its 0.9% stake to Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation. As of March 31, 2023, Tata Technologies had income from operations of ₹ 4,414 crore and Net Asset ₹ 2,989 crore.

Founded in 2016, by TPG in partnership with Bono and Jeff Skoll, TPG Rise Climate is the dedicated climate impact investing fund of TPG’s $18 billion global impact investing platform. The Rise Funds’ core areas of focus include climate and conservation, education, financial inclusion, food and agriculture, healthcare, and impact services.

In August 2022, India’s largest consumer lending fintech, EarlySalary, had raised series D funding round of $110 million led by TPG’s The Rise Fund along with Norwest Venture Partners.

Tata Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Chhattisgarh to transform 36 government ITIs into modern technology centres leveraging its global partner network and manufacturing domain knowledge.

Tata Technologies, a global engineering and product development digital services company, announced that it has signed a 10-year Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the government of Chhattisgarh to modernize 36 government-owned ITIs in the state with a total project cost of INR 1188.36 Crores. This collaboration is an extension of Tata Technologies efforts to support projects of high social impact and complement the nation-building efforts of the Government. The upgraded ITIs will serve as skill incubation centres, strengthening the technical proficiency of students and potential employers. We believe that by training a workforce that is not only highly skilled on Industry 4.0 tools & technologies but also primed for faster industry deployment, these centres will stimulate the economic progression and holistic development of the state.

The Chhattisgarh government has launched various skill development initiatives to empower its diverse workforce and enable the state manufacturing and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) industry. This includes schemes like Kaushal Vikas Yojana for training youth on healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and services as well as Skill-on-Wheels for remote area training. Tata Technologies, a global engineering and product development digital services company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with TiHAN, IIT Hyderabad, to collaborate in the areas of Software Defined Vehicles (SDV) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). As Automotive companies strive to develop SDVs with autonomous technologies, they look for innovative solutions and accelerators that help them reduce technology incubation time and cost. Tata Technologies and TiHAN will collaborate towards solutions that address these specific challenges being faced by companies in developing SDVs that incorporate the latest technologies. The collaboration will specifically focus on:
  • Development of platform/s and Proofs of Concept (POC) that optimize product development timelines.
  • Enabling upskilling and hands-on training for Tata Technologies engineers at TiHAN in new technology areas.

AjnaXR Station is a scalable VR training solution which is manufactured and assembled in India.
