Congratulations are in order for Ark Robot, a warehouse automation Bangalore based tech-startup, for winning the Qprize – Make in India contest. Qualcomm held the contest a few days ago in Mumbai and announced the results at the end of the event.
According to the company, the Qualcomm and Make In India’s Qprize contest is its contribution to the Indian startup ecosystem and the government's vision of Startup India. With the contest, they believe, they aim to be able to incentivise the start-up ecosystem to come forward and join the startup bandwagon towards local design and manufacturing. Its Qualcomm Design in India Initiative was also a much applauded initiative.
The contest, which saw the participation of over 500 startups from all over India, was judged by Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan, Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and Qualcomm India president Sunil Lalvani, among many others.
Ark Robot’s technology, which helped it in clinching not only the Qprize - Make in India contest title but also the prize money of Rs. 2 crore, is still awaiting patent. The technology is next generation warehouse automation technology which is said to be capable of making logistics and warehouse management a much easier process and task. In order to win, the startup made use of some of its best robots to demonstrate its impeccable design.
Developed by iFuture Systems, an industrial automation company founded in the year 2008, Ark Robot aims to bring a revolution in the growing Indian logistics and e-commerce sector. The company is currently trying to break into the US and European Markets. Rajesh Manpat is the founder of iFuture Systems and is also the inventor of the Ark robot.
The Robots harnessed by the Bangalore based startup have the capability to clock the speed of 4 Km an hour, and can carry weight up to 250 kgs.
Along with Ark Robot, the other names that competed in the competition are, Cardiac Design Labs, NexGear Technology and TeraFlight Data Labs etc.
Qualcomm Ventures has been actively making its presence felt in the Indian startup scene ever since setting up its base in the country in the year 2007.
