WE HUB Celebrates Five Years of Driving Women Entrepreneurship in India and Inspiring Innovation punny

WE HUB, India's first and only state-led incubator by the Government of Telangana, celebrated its fifth anniversary on International Women's Day. The event was held at Taj Krishna and featured notable speakers, such as Telangana state’s Information Technology (IT) Minister, K. T. Rama Rao; Principal Secretary to the Government of Telangana, IT E & C department, Jayesh Ranjan; and other dignitaries. The celebration recognised the achievements of women entrepreneurs and honoured their contributions to the economy.

WE HUB has been a beacon of hope for women entrepreneurs in India over the past five years, providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed in the business world. The event kicked off with a welcome address and a video presentation by WE HUB showcasing the projects, initiatives and programmes that have helped women entrepreneurs in their entrepreneurial journey. It was followed by five successful women entrepreneurs sharing their inspiring stories of overcoming challenges and achieving success in their respective fields.

Minister K. T. Rama Rao, said, We are on a mission to make Telangana a women's entrepreneur hub, and the WE Hub has played a significant role in engaging with over 35,000 women entrepreneurs across India. The upcoming launch of a single window mechanism and targeted interventions will provide a professional identity for women entrepreneurs and enable them to scale their businesses, creating more employment opportunities in Tier 2 and 3 cities.

The event also included an interactive session with the women entrepreneurs and the audience, where IT Minister, K.T. Rama Rao, engaged in a Q&A session with them. Mr Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Information Technology (IT), emphasised the importance of women's participation in entrepreneurship and applauded WE HUB's role in promoting women entrepreneurship.

Over the past five years, WE HUB has incubated 3194 start-ups and SMEs by women founders and successfully engaged with over 5,000 women entrepreneurs, 1247 students, 986 social impact entrepreneurs and 609 urban entrepreneurs. The incubator has been actively working towards enabling women-led start-ups across sectors scale and accelerate through global market access.

The IDC, launched in March 2022, is Deliveroo's largest tech hub outside the United Kingdom and has since made significant progress on its multi-year plan to build a world-class engineering team in India. The centre currently comprises 140 employees and is expected to exceed 200 by the end of 2023. Deliveroo has also expanded beyond Hyderabad to access leading tech talent across other metros like Bangalore, Gurgaon, and Mumbai, through shared space partner (Cowrks).

The IDC provides multi-disciplinary support to Deliveroo's global technology team in the UK, embedding themselves within UK-based teams in the global Care & Trust, Financial Systems, Consumer, Delivery, Grocery, Platform, Restaurants, and Product Engineering teams. TS Police ‘Centre of Excellence for Cyber Safety’ is an initiative of Telangana Police and the Society For Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) curated by Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. It was inaugurated by KTR in the presence of Shri Mohd Mahboob Ali, Minister of Home, Govt of Telangana; Mr M. Mahender Reddy, Director General of Police, Telangana.

It is the first of its kind initiat​ive​​ by any state in India. It is a proactive initiative. It is a process-driven initiative rather than a people-oriented unique initiative in which Telangana Police take pride. It is a productised approach.

The vision of this ambitious initiative is to secure the cyber ecosystem for the state of Telangana.

It is an industry-led initiative taken up in partnership with the Police (PPP), as a trusted partner to citizens, industry and academia, for mitigating cyber security incidents and frauds, by leveraging technology, setting up processes, building capacity, spreading awareness, to strengthen the legal framework by complementing cyber security initiatives of Government and to serve as a collaborative and continuous innovation platform for—Field Practitioners, Industry Experts, Thought Leaders, Researchers etc.

The who-is-who industry partners of the initiative include Microsoft, CyberEye, Google, EY, ISB, NALSAR, IIT-Hyderabad; RBI, NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), IDRBT, Dept of Telecommunication, Govt of India; TAFCOP(Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection; HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, RBL Bank, PayTM, TrueCaller, Intl Centre for Missing & Exploited Children.

Speaking on the occasion Mr KT Rama Rao said new-age crimes need new-age solutions. During Munugodu by-elections we realised that voters were lured with money transferred through digital payments. The Election Commission also needs to be sensitised on this matter. We live in a world where technology is everywhere. The devices outnumber the population. We are living in a connected world where devices talk between themselves. Under these circumstances, Cyber Security becomes a huge challenge he observed.

Speaking further he added that the sense of cyber crimes are not just confined to big cities but they are there and even spread to small and remote places. So we need to promote awareness. We need to promote 1930, an all-India toll-free number against cyber crimes. We need to build institutions like this Centre of Excellence rather than individuals. Processes are more important than people, he said.

He urged the industry to be part of this initiative. He appealed everyone to come forward. More than a million people work in the IT sector in the city. All must become cyber warriors. We are working on the first draft piece of legislation on Cyber Crimes. The work is under process. When it was ready and announced Telangana will be the first state to do so, he claimed with pride.

KTR urged the home minister and the top police leadership to work on the Registry of Sexual offenders. Sunitha Krishnan, a prominent social activist suggested it some time ago. Once those listed in the registry, will be prohibited from jobs and prohibited from using any facilities from the government.

Also, a participant in a Hackathon in the past suggested implementing a First Respondent Drone which can swiftly move to a crime scene much before the police arrive. He urged the home minister to start the work on these initiatives at the earliest possible time.

A customised Crime Operating System(Crime OS)  developed exclusively for this initiative by Hyderabad based Startup ‘CyberEye’ founded by a former DRDO expert, Ram Ganesh, who is also Director, Technical for the newly inaugurated Centre of Excellence(CoE) is launched by KTR. Mohd Mahmood Ali, Home Minister said the state has 64% of total CCTVs in India. Though there are not many crimes happening in this part,, most of our citizens are becoming victims of the cyber crimes done elsewhere, he said.

DGP Mr M. Mahender Reddy said today there are no crimes without digital components. And there are no individuals who are not impacted. So Police need to be relevant, and effective and must serve.

So we need to evolve from a physical force to a tech-savvy force. We must be the tech-based force which works with ease, he said.

Telangana Police is the best in the country. We have ten lakh CCTVs. Every citizen must be reassured that they are safe and that the police ensure their safety. Safety and Security are pre-requisite for the development of Telangana. Our goal is to keep Telangana safe in terms of the cyber ecosystem. The command control which was inaugurated some time ago will have dozens of Centres of Excellence, said Mr Mahender Reddy.

The Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the TS Police Centre of Excellence for Cyber Safety is yet another feather in the cap of Telangana Police, who already have stellar respect and are known for their pioneering efforts in utilising technology. He urged Mr Stephen Ravindra, Commissioner of Cyberabad to collaborate with other government CoEs. And he assured his help in facilitating the same.

Rajiv Kumar, MD of Microsoft India said post covid the nature of crimes used to be 80% conventional and 20% digital. Now it is reversed. And even that 20% has a digital component to it. TS Police Centre of Excellence for Cyber Safety is probably unique in the world.

Mr BVR Mohan Reddy, Founder Chairman Cyient said 5G which is around the corner is going to revolutionise the way we engage in future. It makes remote telesurgery possible. It is one of the many wonders we can expect in the future. At the same time, cyber crimes are galloping. There is a 150% increase in Cyber Crimes in the recent past. Hyderabad is the Happening City in the country. 50% of Tech Companies have their development centres in Hyderabad. He gave three suggestions for better policing. One is to develop a level of awareness so that reporting of crimes will go up. Two, the police must do capacity building in terms of expertise in Cyber Security. The third is to provide subject matter expertise to the police. He assured that his company will come forward to extend that help for the next two years.

Mr Stephen Ravindra, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad said it is a dream come true to the Cyberabad Police in particular and Telangana Police in general. We need new-age policing which is in tune with the aspiration of the citizen and adoption of technology, work process. Policing has to be predictive, preventive and proactive.

Police must use technology as a force multiplier. Two lakh crore rupees worth of IT products and services are being exported from this state.

The Centre of Excellence is the new way of tackling the security challenges of the 21st century.

There is a compelling need to secure our digital ecosystem. It is the most sought-after initiative, an initiative of exceptional nature, said Mr Krishna Yedula, Secretary, SCSC in his welcome address.

IT for twenty years has been Information Technology. But, it doesn’t hold any water now. IT is now Intelligence Technology. The time has come now to redefine it said KT Rama Rao, Minister for IT&C, Govt of Telangana while addressing the 2000 plus Engineering Education Experts at the inauguration of 7th International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education here in the city at Anurag Group of Institutions (AGI) Campus at Venkatapur on Monday morning.

The theme of the event is “Socio-humanistic approach in Engineering Education” with sub themes such as outcomes-based education, game-based and project-based learning, innovation in teaching, learning process and entrepreneurship and others.

Government of Telangana is committed for quality in all stages of education. The state has 220 Engineering colleges with an intake of 1.2 lakh students in various streams. When we took over the realms of the State, we observed that engineering educational standards were deteriorating. We appointed a committee and inspected the standards. It was a tough call. But our surprise the number of colleges have not come down drastically, he shared

When industry complained that skill-sets among engineering students was a problem, we came out with TASK, Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge. TASK in last 5 years reached out to 680 colleges, trained 5070 Faculty and 2.9 lakh students in various skill sets, KT Rama Rao informed.

TASK will expand its footprint to Tier-2 and 3 cities like Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda he announced.

He suggested that Practice School Option something similar existing in Germany must be introduced as part of our curriculum.

The Practice School program allows a student to practice concepts learnt in classrooms in real-life situations while also sensitizing them to the ways of workplace behaviour by assigning time-bound projects as in a company. JNTU is actively considering this. We must seek BVR Mohan Reddy’s support as he is the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany. It can be either six or 12 months and hopefully the institutions must kick start this from next year, he said.

India has a demographic dividend. 50 per cent population is below 27 years and 65 per cent below 35. They are the ones going to drive India. If we don’t use these resources by skilling them properly it will boomerang as demographic disaster he cautioned.

Sabita Indira Reddy, Education Minister said looking at the plight of people going abroad for higher education, Telangana Government decided to create an educational infrastructure to establish institutions similar to some existing in abroad by introducing Private University Act.

Speaking further she added that it is the aim of Telangana to improve its literacy rate from current 70% to 100% in next few years.

Dr Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, MLC and Chairman of Anurag Group of Institutions which is hosting the 7th International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education while giving his remarks said, to build a strong nation we need better Engineers.

He announced that AGI is likely to become a private university soon once the permission processes are completed.

Telangana Awarded Startups, Launches CoE on Cybersecurity Along with T-Web, T-SWAN

Marking the fourth year since the formation of the state of Telangana, K T Rama Rao, minister for IT, Industries, MA&UD and NRI Affairs released the annual report 2017-18 of the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Department. As part of the event, the minister also launched several new initiatives aligned with the vision of Digital Telangana.

In the event, the minister awareded startups under categories of different sector they are working in. ChitMonks was awarded the most innovative Blockchain startup. Two year old ChitMonks, based out of T-Hub uses a state of the art Blockchain technology to bring the various registered Chit fund companies in the state along with the registrars onto an immutable, smart contract enabled, highly secure platform.

Adonmo won the most promising AdTech startup. Also based out of T-Hub, Adonmo is building a first-of-its-kind digital outdoor advertising network capable of contextually targeting ads using cutting edge IOT, AI and Computer Vision technologies.

The most innovative smart cities startup award was given to Ayasta, which is an enterprise focused IoT startup working on Digitising Electrical. It has built a proprietary platform called CEGMA, which is a culmination of sensors, Machine Learning and Computer VIsion to monitor, analyse and detect anomalies in the electrical systems both inside a given facility and outside in the electrical grid.

Aadhaar-based startup Syntizen won the most innovative Aadhar-based solutions startup. Syntizen Technologies is an Identity Solutions based startup powering organisations with the Aadhaar eco system in India. The startup also manages the complete Aadhaar eco-system for the state of Telangana and Uttar Pradesh along with their private clients.

The minister also launched several new initiatives which includes a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for R&D on cybersecurity, T-Web, TASK Mobile VAN T-SOC, T-SWAN, and TSTS ABAS. The details of all these are as below:

Cybersecurity CoE

An MoU was signed between the government . of Telangana and Data Security Council of India to set up a Centre of Excellence on Cybersecurity in Hyderabad. This CoE, an initiative of NASSCOM, the first of its kind in India, will focus on creating an ecosystem for cybersecurity R&D, product development, capacity building, and innovation.

The CoE based on Public-Private-Partnership model will accelerate and strengthen the ecosystem by focusing on strategic areas including, innovation, entrepreneurship and capability building. This CoE in partnership with industry will also enhance State’s Cyber Security preparedness, adoption of security technologies and capability building.

T-Web

T-Web aims to make Telangana’s government websites usable, uniform, user-friendly and universally accessible. The components of the project include T-Web Search, a One Stop Shop (OSS) for Telangana government Information and Services. As part of T-Web, Guidelines for Telangana Government Websites (GTGW) were prepared based on Guidelines prepared by GoI but goes beyond to include Compliance to Govt. Acts, SEO and Mobile-friendliness, Social Media Integration and Localisation. Finally, T-Web also includes a standardised website framework that serves as a guiding document for building Telangana Govt. Websites quickly, easily and economically.

T-SOC

Telangana Security Operations Centre (T-SOC) aims to secure the government data and critical infrastructure using state-of-art threat detection and response capabilities by setting up a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution. In phase-1 of T-SOC, entire infrastructure of State Data Centre (SDC) and Secretariat Area Network (SCAN) has been integrated with T-SOC.

T-SWAN

Telangana State Wide Network (T-SWAN), marks major upgradation in the erstwhile SWAN infrastructure of Telangana. Under T-SWAN, the broadband connectivity at District HQs, and Mandal HQs has been enhanced significantly in a short span of 6 months from October 2017. The HQs of all 31 districts (earlier, 10) have been provided with 34 Mbps internet connection along with a 20 Mbps (earlier 12 Mbps) dedicated intranet connection. More importantly, the connectivity to old and new Mandal HQs has been improved from 4 Mbps to 12 Mbps bandwidth. The beneficiaries of a 200% increase in bandwidth include more than 46 government departments and 101 sub departments, MeeSeva Centres and other online services.

TSTS ABAS

In a first of its kind implementation, Telangana State Technology Services has developed an Aadhaar based Attendance System, called TSTS ABAS providing all three critical components for an effective biometric based attendance system i.e. Device, Connectivity and authentication solution. Through a soft launch earlier this year, the solution has already been implemented for Students of JNTU, GHMC Sanitary workers, Property Registration, Board of Intermediate education etc. and is witnessing around 1 lakh authentications every day. The initiative is a key step towards Digital Governance.

Electronic Service Delivery is continuously looking for avenues to improve the incomes of the Mee Seva Franchsiees. As part of this ESD signed an MoU with IFFCO BAZAR, a leading e-commerce portal for agricultural inputs. Under this MoU, the farmers will be able to access IFFCO Bazar, through MeeSeva Centres, to purchase and get home delivery of agricultural inputs at no additional cost. Mee Seva Franchisees will get additional income paid by IFFCO. This is a first of its kind initiative in the country wherein the farmers can use assisted online service of Mee Seva to buy agricultural inputs through on line.

As part of the event, the government also awarded several companies, startups and individuals for their achievements and contribution towards the IT industry in the state.

Infosys was awarded for the highest software exports, and employee generation, while Tech Mahindra was awarded for outstanding CSR and also for promotion of a tier-2 city (Warangal).

R Pavani, who set up Digital Seva Kendram in Arrur village, Valigonda Mandal, Yadadri district and providing various services like G2C services, Passport, PAN card, Insurance, Education and Digital Literacy training was awarded the Digital Literacy Leader awards. She is providing Digital Literacy training to their villagers especially to SHG Women in the village. The job aspirants in the village are preparing for exams online with the help of Digital Literacy.

V. Nagarani, Pulyala Rajani, P Koteshwar Rao and Guguloth Rajesh were also awarded the Digital Literacy leader award.
