India's Tata Owned Jaguar To Launch Tesla Rival

The automobile battle of the year is here. Jaguar and Tesla are at it again, and this time the trophy for the best electric car is on the line. Though Tata-owned Jaguar's model is slated to officially release next year, but the company recently did give the world a preview of what all can we expect from its first ever electric concept car, Jaguar I-PACE.

When it comes to electric cars, Elon Musk's Tesla has acquired a reputation of its own and has in fact spurred the biggest of the automakers in the world to accelerate their electrification plans. Jaguar's I-PACE, which is being pitted as the automaker's answer to Tesla's Model X, is an SUV model.

I-PACE's five-seat SUV model makes it have an uncanny resemblance to Tesla's Model X when it comes to looks. In fact, the all-electric sports car has a top speed of 200mph, and is considered as a part of Jaguar's strategy to beat electric car pioneer Elon Musk at his own game. The electric car accelerates from rest to 60mph in just 4 seconds and has a range of around 300 miles, which according to the automaker is enough to survive the average commute for a week on a single charge.

According to Jaguar, for I-PACE, they decided to dump their rule book altogether and worked hard to come up with a model that could boost of having the best of looks, performance and space. Plus, they made sure that the electric car could be charged easily at home from the power derived from the domestic main power supply.

Being powered by two electric motors – one attached to each axle front and back and together delivering a stellar 400 horsepower, Jaguar's first electric car can be fully charged in 120 minutes, or reach 80 per cent of that in just 90 minutes.

Jaguar's I-PACE is being considered as the automaker's effort to meet its commitment of cutting the average carbon dioxide emitted by all the cars it sells by 45 per cent by 2020, compared to what it was in 2007. If it fails to do so, the automaker might be fined by up to $110 per car.

By the looks of it, Jaguar seems to have come prepared to knock Tesla off its game, let's see if the company is able to achieve this when the model comes out in the market in 2018.
