JSW MG Motor India Becomes the First OEM to Install 1,000 EV Chargers

On the occasion of World Environment Day, JSW MG Motor India announced the milestone of installing 1,000 community chargers under the MG Charge initiative across 470+ sites in India. With this achievement, the carmaker becomes the first OEM to build EV community charging infrastructure at this scale in the country. The installations span residential societies, condominiums, hospitals, campuses, hotels, and industrial parks.

In addition, the company informed that its EVs have cumulatively covered over 290 crore green kilometres on Indian roads, equivalent to saving 4.17 lakh metric tons of CO₂. The carmaker further noted that it is preparing an aggressive product onslaught for CY2026, with three new NEVs slated for launch, including the introduction of plug-in hybrid technology. JSW MG Motor India views India’s sustainability journey as one that can be driven by multiple technologies.

Aligned with the Government of India’s vision, JSW MG Motor India utilizes more than 78% renewable energy at its Halol manufacturing plant, resulting in savings of over 9,300 metric tons of carbon emissions. The plant meets nearly 95% of its total power requirements through renewable energy sources. Water consumption at the Halol facility has been reduced by 23% through process optimization and the reuse of recycled water. JSW MG Motor India has also adopted Industry 4.0 solutions, with digitization and IoT playing a crucial role in decarbonizing operations and enhancing energy efficiency.

China’s SAIC Motor is set to sell an additional 10% stake in its Indian joint venture, JSW MG Motor India, further reducing its ownership and deepening Indian control under JSW Group, reports news agency Reuters. SAIC Motor is reducing its stake due to India’s FDI restrictions on Chinese capital and geopolitical tensions.

The stake in JSW MG Motor India is held by a mix of Indian investors — JSW Group (largest at ~35%), an Indian Financial Institution (8%), MG dealers (3%), and MG employees (5%) — giving Indian entities majority control, while SAIC Motor retains the balance. Building on the successes of the previous seasons, the sixth edition of MGDP is themed on ‘Innovation in Automotive’ and will focus on future-ready innovations.

Season 6.0 encourages start-ups to showcase their innovations under various categories, such as Innovation in Logistics and Supply Chain, AI in Automotive, V2X Intelligence, Sustainability & Circular Economy, Innovation in Vehicle Technology, Connected Services, Innovation in EV Charging Infrastructure, and Innovation in Manufacturing. An esteemed jury panel comprising senior leaders and distinguished experts from leading corporates, academic institutions and industry bodies will evaluate the entries based on their uniqueness and real-world applicability.

The program received over 1550 entries and saw 290+ teams being shortlisted in the first round across seasons 1 to 5. The teams were provided mentorship by 100+ experts, including JSW MG Motor India’s leadership and its technology ecosystem partners, making it the largest mentoring program in the automotive segment. Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, in collaboration with JSW MG Motor, has introduced an innovative Dual Loan program designed to make electric mobility more accessible and future-ready for Indian customers.

Anchored in MG’s pioneering Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, this initiative allows customers to avail separate loans for the vehicle and its battery, significantly reducing the upfront cost of ownership.
