How A Guwahati Startup Is Creating Jobs In Secluded North-East India

Inspired by the Indian government's Startup India initiative of encouraging entrepreneurship among the youth, a Guwahati-based startup called Tech Variable is bringing together young and efficient engineers from across the northeast under one roof to brainstorm and give birth to innovative ideas and technologies.

Today, the Indian startup industry is said to have more than 19,000 companies, and is the third largest market for tech startups in the world. And, North East India has a crucial role to play if the industry wants to grow further faster.

At the starting of the ‘Start-Up India 2016’ conference coordinated by ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Mr. Jitendra Singh had revealed that the North-East states of India have extreme possibility to enter the startup environment. Singh had then stated that the DoNER Ministry is contemplating the feasibility of creating a venture fund for startups.

Talking to ANI, Ratnadeep Bhattacharjee, one of the co-founders and Tech Variable's Chief Operating Officer said that the startup is a result of the hard work of four people in total. He revealed that while he himself is a NIIT graduate, his other three co-founders are from TCS Mumbai, Delhi.

Sharing about what gave birth to Tech Variable, Bhattacharjee revealed that one fine day the four of them got together and thought about starting a service-based company in the Northeast region because they found that there was a niche market for it.

The Guwahati-based startup is providing a number of courses, including core java for beginners, advanced java, cloud computing to name a few.

Tech Variable acts as a platform for engineering students from reputed colleges in the region to pursue their internship and get trained under the experienced guidance of the seniors. The startup also organises a recruitment process for the job seekers.

According to the startup, their main aim is to enhance creativity and help in building the careers of talented youth in the North Eastern region of the Indian subcontinent.

The startup's latest batch constituted of 30-35 students. Not only did Tech Variable provide the students with training and internship, but it also got a few of them recruited. A few from the batch are still continuing their research based work.

Talking about his journey in TCS and Tech Variable, Nilutpal Boruah, co-founder and CEO, Tech Variable talked to ANI and said, "My journey in TCS was quite overwhelming; I had a very good learning experience and I learnt a lot about corporate culture but life in a start up is completely hectic you have to work a lot and constantly brainstorm about products and services."

In what could be considered as an admirable feet in such a short duration of time, a team named Techno Forensic, comprising of few trainees of Techno Variable from NIITS, Mirza in Guwahati under the leadership of Utpal Sarmah made the entire region proud by winning the Smart India Hackathon contest held recently in Delhi.

For the uninitiated, Smart India Hackathon was a 36-hour non-stop digital product development competition organised by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The Techno Forensic team was successful able to design and develop solution against the problem statement given by the department of chemicals and petrochemicals within the stipulated 36 hours deadline.

Startups like Tech Variable can play a crucial role in encouraging the growth of the North-Eastern startup industry, which would result in creating more jobs for the youth of the region.
