Delhi University Alumnus Vaibhav Taneja Named Tesla CFO

Vaibhav Taneja, a Delhi University alumnus, has been appointed as Tesla's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since August 2023.

Vaibhav, originally from India, is Tesla's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since August 2023. He's not new to Tesla, having joined the company in 2017 when Tesla acquired SolarCity. Since 2019, Taneja has been Tesla's top accounting person, serving as the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO). His role extends to Tesla's Indian branch as well.

Prior to this role, Vaibhav served as Tesla's Chief Accounting Officer since March 2019 and held other finance and accounting positions within the company. His appointment marks a significant development in the electric car industry, and it's great to see an Indian-origin professional taking on such a crucial role at Tesla.

Vaibhav Taneja, Tesla's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), has an impressive background. Here are the key points:

Vaibhav holds a degree in commerce (B.Com in 1999) from Delhi University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

From July 1999 to March 2016, he worked at PwC in India and the United States, eventually becoming a senior manager in assurance.

In 2016, he joined SolarCity as its corporate controller. SolarCity was founded by Peter and Lyndon Rive (cousins of SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk), and specialized in selling and installing solar energy generation systems for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. In 2016, Tesla acquired SolarCity in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $2.6 billion.

In February 2017, Taneja transitioned to Tesla when SolarCity was acquired, serving as the assistant corporate controller. By May 2018, he was promoted to corporate controller.

In March 2019, he stepped into the role of chief accounting officer, replacing Dave Morton. In January 2021, he became a director of Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited.

Finally, in August 2023, he succeeded Zach Kirkhorn as Tesla's CFO.

QS World University Rankings 2025: IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay in Top-150

The QS World University Rankings for 2025 have been released. As of the rankings, no Indian universities have been listed in the top 100. The highest-ranking Indian institutions are IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, both of which have made significant improvements but are positioned within the top 150. IIT Bombay is ranked 118th and IIT Delhi is at 150th globally.

However Indian universities have shown significant improvement in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Here are some highlights:
  • IIT Bombay has climbed from 149th to 118th globally, leading among Indian institutions.
  • IIT Delhi has made a remarkable jump of 47 ranks, moving from 197th to 150th.
  • IISc Bangalore has improved from 225th to 211th.
  • IIT Kharagpur has risen from 271st to 222nd
  • IIT Madras has leaped from 285th to 227th
  • The University of Delhi has made one of the most significant advancements, rising 79 ranks from 407th to 328th
Overall, 61% of Indian universities have risen in rank, reflecting the country's growing influence in the global higher education landscape. The improvements are attributed to advancements in research, but challenges remain in internationalization and faculty-student ratios. 

In the Global scenario, here are the top ten universities in the world, according to the rankings :

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US

2. Imperial College London, UK

3. University of Oxford, UK

4. Harvard University, US

5. University of Cambridge, UK

6. Stanford University, US

7. ETH Zürich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland

8. National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore

9. University College London, UK

10. California Institute of Technology (Caltech), US

Notably, Imperial College London has made a significant leap, moving up four places, largely due to their improvements in the 'Sustainability' category and various research metrics

For the thirteenth consecutive year, MIT has retained its position at the top of the list. The rankings this year are the largest to date, featuring 1,500 universities from 106 countries and territories. They also incorporate both employability and sustainability factors into their methodology for the first time.

Seeing the surge in popularity of careers in the field of Digital Marketing, the Delhi University’s Bharati College has started accepting application for admission in its short-term certificate course titled Digital Marketing & Social Media Advertising from high school (class 10th) pass-outs too. Though being an all-girls College, Bharati College has kept this short course as co-educational, i.e., open to both boys and girls.

The classes shall be conducted in two modes, i.e., online and offline. For offline mode, the classes shall be conducted after regular college hours thus making it convenient for students from other institutions too to take advantage of this certification course.

"Those seeking to learn online shall take classes on weekends. Since the admission process is completely online for this course, it should be more reachable for anyone who has access to internet and compatible devices to get certified from recognized institution like Bharati College. The online classes shall be conducted in a live environment making learning equivalent to offline. The trainers for these courses in digital marketing are well qualified, experienced and shall provide hands-on learning to students. CUET is not applicable to this course.
