IIT Jodhpur Launches Ayurtech, A Ministry of Ayush CoE to Combine Ancient Ayurveda with AI and Data Science

IIT Jodhpur has inaugurated the AyurTech Center of Excellence (CoE) sponsored by Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, combining Ayurveda and Technology to develop evidence-based solutions for precision healthcare. An initiative towards individual-centric medicine at an affordable cost using AI & data science.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, secretary, Ministry of Ayush on Friday inaugurated the Ayush supported CoE at School of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, IIT Jodhpur.

He delivered an institute lecture on Ayurveda in the digital Age: Harnessing Technology for Health and wellness, and visited the campus to understand the working of the institute.

AyurTech is being proposed as the first-of-its-kind initiative in the precision health and medicine space that would combine Electronics, Digital health and AI and multi-omics technologies for realising ‘Evidence-based Ayurveda’ solutions in a transdisciplinary framework.



The new CoE aims to establish an AI-driven integrative framework for population and individual risk stratification and early actionable precision health interventions.

A built-up space of approximately 3760 sq.ft. for an AyurTech facility for Phenotyping, Molecular Biology, Chemistry and Device development fabrication and characterization area has been provided by IIT Jodhpur.

The new AyurTech facility for technological immersion will enable capacity building in different domains of Ayurveda, increase employability in transdisciplinary domain, provide innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities and help in trans-disciplinary research programs.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Hon’ble Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, said, “I am honored to inaugurate the AyurTech Center of Excellence sponsored by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, at IIT Jodhpur. ‘Ayurveda Vigyaan’ is the future of healthcare system. I congratulate IIT Jodhpur for taking this initiative and hope this will help researchers in developing indigenous technologies. I am sure in the upcoming years this center will translate various research projects into successful outcomes for the betterment of the public at large.”

The Ayush Ministry is exploring how fusion of AI and Ayurveda can help in advancement of the healthcare system and the potential applications of AI in Prakriti diagnosis, phytomedicine.



Incubation Centre for Startups in Ayurveda Sector Launching on Friday


India's Ayush Minister, Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal, will inaugurate the Incubation Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (AIIA- iCAINE) at All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), on Friday (29th Oct 2021) at a program organized in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

To promote entrepreneurship leveraging the academic knowledge, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), has set up an Incubation and Innovation Centre in its campus to nucleate a cluster of new age ventures. 

AIIA has been recognized as Host Institute (HI) under Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India which would provide opportunities to the innovators in developing and nurturing their ideas.

The incubation centre will be set up under the mandate of Ministry of Ayush given to AIIA to nucleate a cluster of new age ventures and to promote entrepreneurship leveraging the academic knowledge. "Startups are new types of wealth creators in our country", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day speech on 15 August, 2021, underscoring the need of the government to relentlessly work towards making India’s Startups and the Startup Ecosystem, the best in the world. Government of India is implementing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) through States/UTs for development and promotion of AYUSH system of medicine.

A national seminar on "Start-ups in Ayush Sector- Scope and Opportunities (AYUR-UDYAMAH)” is also being organized on 30th October as a part of the program. 

The event will witness representatives from Ayurveda Sector across the country, and about 400 AYUSH institutes and MoU partners working in collaboration with AIIA.

In August, it was announced that World's first Bio-Bank of Ayurveda will be established at AIIA. 

On 30th Oct 2021, during National seminar at AIIA campus, Eminent Speakers from Ministry of Ayush, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), IIT, NCISM, NIFTEM, Food Technologists, Entrepreneurs will be sharing their expertise. An Ayurveda Food Expo will also be organized during the event to exhibit strength of Ayurveda in Food Sector.

The event will also include Launch of Qualification Packs for AYUSH Sub Sector Skill Council under Health Sector Skill Council (HSCC). AIIA is acting as a nodal organization under the directions of Ministry of AYUSH in the execution of skill development programs in AYUSH sector since 2018 and the Ministry has designated AIIA as the centre of excellence in skill development under HSSC.
