Union Home Minister Amit Shah today performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the world’s largest curd production plant under the ₹700 crore Amul Bengal Dairy Project in Kolkata, marking a major milestone in India’s White Revolution 2.0 and cooperative-led growth. The project will process 30 lakh litres of milk daily and empower over 1.25 lakh farmers in West Bengal.
West Bengal’s dairy sector is undergoing rapid expansion, led by Amul’s ₹700 crore Bengal Dairy Project in Howrah, but several other cooperative and private initiatives are also strengthening the state’s milk processing and value‑addition infrastructure.
Before the mega‑plant, Amul operated via third‑party processors in Bengal. Over 200 new dairy cooperative societies registered under White Revolution 2.0 in 2026, expanding grassroots milk procurement.
Amul’s fully owned facility marks a shift from outsourced processing to direct asset ownership, ensuring quality and supply chain control.
