Toyota to Build $2.1B SUV Plant in India, Production Starts 2029

Toyota Motor Corporation has announced a ₹20,000 crore investment to build a new SUV manufacturing plant in Bidkin, Maharashtra, with a capacity of 100,000 vehicles annually. Production will begin in the first half of 2029, creating around 2,800 jobs and expanding Toyota’s total India capacity to nearly 450,000 units.

It is to be noted that the $2.1B valuation is not Toyota’s official disclosure but a state government estimate converted into USD. The $2.1B figure derived from Maharashtra’s confirmed investment figure of ₹20,000 crore for Toyota’s new SUV plant, converted using the latest May 2026 exchange rate of ~₹95.2 per USD, which equals about $2.1 billion.

The new Toyota plant will be positioned to steadily deliver vehicles not only to customers in India but also to customers in surrounding regions.
