AI-powered road safety initiative in Nagpur

On Saturday, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, has launched ''iRASTE'', an Artificial Intelligence (AI) -powered project, on a pilot basis in Nagpur in Maharashtra with the aim of reducing accidents by 50%.

Project iRASTE aims to re-imagine Road Safety with the predictive power of AI. For the first time, AI will act as a force multiplier and transform Road Safety Engineering.  Predictive insights generated via AI can prevent accidents even before they happen. Over time, the project expects to impact a 50% decline in road accidents in Nagpur city and Blackspot reduction on the city’s road network.

Sophia the Robot Will Be Mass-produced This Year

Sophia, arguably the most famous robot in the world, was debuted in year 2016 by its creator company Hansun Robotics to look like British actress Audrey Hepburn. Now in a latest, Hanson Robotics has announced plans to begin mass-producing Sophia the robot this year — so that she can help the world cope with the pandemic.

Chinese Tesla rival XPeng is investing in robotics and flying modes of transport. The company is building a research and development team for flying cars that will "have a few hundred people." 

Earlier this year, XPeng showed off a second prototype of a flying passenger car which it says has been in development for eight years. And on Tuesday, it took the wraps off a four-legged “robotic unicorn,” as it pushes into new areas of business.


Department of Space (DoS) has entered into a Framework MoU with Hyderabad-based space-tech startup Skyroot Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., for access to ISRO facilities and expertise towards the development and testing of subsystems/systems of Space Launch Vehicles. With this, Skyroot becomes the first private company to formally enter into an agreement with ISRO.

The Framework MoU will enable the company for undertaking multiple tests and access facilities at various ISRO centers and also enable to avail technical expertise of ISRO for testing and qualifying their space launch vehicle systems and subsystems.


Zurich, Switzerland-based insurance firm Swiss Re and Swiss-based startup Climeworks have partnered to combat climate change by setting up world's first large-scale Direct Air Capture (DAC) + storage plant. The plant, known as Orca, will annually draw down a volume of emissions equivalent to about 870 cars.
