Business Wire India
Leveraging the power of social media and virtual communities, Blued India a social app dedicated to GBTQ community launched a one of its kind celebration to mark the third milestone of decriminalization of section 377 in India. This initiative was an ode to the freedom of expression that came in with the Supreme Court’s verdict three years ago. With a vision to bring people of the community together and celebrate this day as it was a turning point in their lives, Blued India launched a series of events on its virtual platform to celebrate freedom, love and equality for all.

The event that took place on the Blued India platform witnessed participation of over 27,000 members of the Blued community. In this virtual event, members of the community were asked to #ExpressTheirPride through various forms of art such as dance, music, art, and poetry. Members from all over India came together, decorated their backgrounds from each of their homes with Rainbow Balloons, Pride Flag, and dressed exceptionally well to express their joy on the third-year milestone.

Talking about the celebration, Sanyam Sharma, Marketing Director, Blued India said, “At Blued India it is our constant endeavor to encourage inclusivity and celebrate all milestones as a community. This initiative was an additional step in that direction. We’re overwhelmed by the response we received for our event. The enthusiasm of the community encourages us to do better while leading change through our interactive virtual platform and giving the community a space to express without any fear.”

Palash Borah, CSR Manager, Blued India, said, “The decriminalization of section 377 has been a landmark day in the history of the community. It not only opened doors for us to come out of the closet but also led to a sense of normalization in the country. At Blued, we are constantly looking at creating safe spaces for the community while reaching out to the most deep-rooted pockets of India, our virtual event was a testament to our commitment. We’re overjoyed by the responses and will continue to build the community in India.”

This event marks one more successful effort by Blued to leverage social and digital media platforms to reach out to the community at a larger level. Recently, in a first-of-its-kind partnership, Blued India partnered with IIT Delhi to build a community dedicated to LGBTQ, through this they worked on campaigns to spread awareness about LGBTQ rights. To reach out to local India, BLUED India collaborated with RED FM to reach out to an audience belonging to all sections of society and hosted the first ever podcast specially dedicated to the LGBTQI community. Covering a wide range of topics such as same sex marriages, being a gay lawyer in India to being gay in Bollywood, this podcast successfully takes the messaging of 'love is love' a notch higher.

Even in 2021, a very small proportion of the population accepts the LGBTQI community wholeheartedly. The main reason for the same being the societal stigma that exists and moreover the lack of conversations in the deeper pockets of India. Through it’s various initiatives, Blued has gone one step ahead to reach out to the community, create a safe space for all those trying to come out of the closet.
