With a view to faster adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles in India, the central government has decided to ease the burden on EV manufacturers by increasing the subsidy on electric two-wheelers. According to the notification of the Department of Heavy Industries, the incentive (incentive amount) on purchase of electric two-wheeler has been increased to Rs 15,000 per kWh, which is Rs 5,000 per kWh more than the earlier subsidy rate.

This move of the government will directly benefit those customers who are about to buy a new electric two-wheeler. Ather Energy (Ather Energy) is also one of the fastest growing electric two-wheeler companies in India. This company is the first to pass on the benefit of this increased subsidy to its customers. The company has made its Ather 450X electric scooter cheaper.

Ather Energy has announced that the Ather 450X will now cost Rs 14,500 cheaper after the FAME II subsidy revision. "We will announce the on-road prices and other important details in the next few days. The company's website will be updated with all these updates later," the company said.

But subsidy will not be available on every scooter, a subsidy of Rs 10,000 crore has been set under the FAME-2 scheme. Out of which, two wheelers, especially e-scooters, will benefit the most. However, not every electric two-wheeler will get the benefit of this scheme. According to the report of CRISIL (CRISIL), about 95 percent of electric scooters in India are such that they cannot be exempted while buying under the FAME-2 subsidy scheme.

What are the subsidy norms

The Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises has framed certain eligibility criteria for various segments of electric vehicles for FAME-II subsidy. The parameters framed by the ministry include key factors like minimum top speed of the vehicle, driving range on a full charge, acceleration and energy consumption efficiency.
As per the government announcement, to avail subsidy under FAME-II, an electric scooter must cover a distance of at least 80 km on a single charge and have a top speed of at least 40 kmph.

Subsidy on these scooters As per the FAME-II

Norms set by the Government of India, only high-speed electric scooters with an electric motor of more than 250 watts of power and a top speed of more than 25 kmph, FAME -II are eligible for subsidy. These specifications vary depending on the price of the electric scooter.

The market for electric vehicles in India is slowly but steadily growing. This is being possible due to the increasing demand for these zero-emission models in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler segment.
