Leading IITs i.e. IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee have decided to not participate in any of the Times Higher Education (THE) - World University Rankings this year (2020).

These IITs will reconsider their decision next year if Times Higher Education is able to convince them about the parameters and transparency in their ranking process.

Founded in 2004, Times Higher Education World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Times Higher Education (THE) magazine.

THE Rankings is often considered as one of the most widely observed university rankings together with Academic Ranking of World Universities and QS World University Rankings, an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which is a British company specializing in the analysis of higher education institutions around the world.

The QS system comprises the global overall and subject rankings (which name the world's top universities for the study of 48 different subjects and five composite faculty areas), alongside five independent regional tables (Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe and Central Asia, the Arab Region, and BRICS).
