National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) is planning to set up a centre for excellence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Nasscom is taking this step to boost the state's information technology (IT) industry. This will be Nasscom's second centre in India, while the first one was established in Bengaluru.

In July 2017, the Karnataka government announced the launch of a first-of-its kind initiative, an all exclusive Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Data Sciences and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bengaluru. For the same, industry body Nasscom has been assigned the duty of managing the programme. It will be bringing together industries, tech players, entrepreneurs, among others to work on the project.

Commenting on the development, Jaimin Shah, chairman - Domestic Council, Nasscom, told TOI, "We are in talks with the government and things are at the final stage. We expect an affirmation by the end of this month. Through this facility, we will be mentoring and nurture some 100 IT-based startups in the first phase in next one year."

With 10,000 Startups programme, NASSCOM aims to scale up the startup ecosystem in India by 10x. The program’s vision is to foster entrepreneurship, build entrepreneurial capabilities at scale and strengthen support for tech startups. The initiative brings together key stakeholders of the ecosystem including startup incubators, accelerators, angel investors, venture capitalists, startup support groups, mentors, and technology corporations. Since its launch in April 2013, the program has done about 800 events in 25 cities of the country which were attended by a whopping 30,000 attendees and received 17,800 Applicants, 2934 Start-ups Shortlists.
