South Korean tech giant, Samsung, which is considered as one of the biggest and best electronics manufacturers in the world, has decided to give Amazon Echo a run for its money. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the South Korean company is currently meticulously finishing up work on its very own voice-controlled home speaker, which could outdo the likes of Amazon Echo, Google Home, and other such devices scheduled to be launched over the next couple of months.

Since the project is still under wraps with no official word from the company, the specifics available about the tech are scarce, but the WSJ report did mention that there's a high probability that the Samsung's voice-controlled home speaker will be powered by Bixby, which is Samsung's answer to Apple’s Siri and Amazon's Alexa.

When Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus’ were launched two months ago, Samsung roped in the customers on the pretext of getting their hands on a new virtual assistant, Bixby. About two weeks ago, after months of wait, the tech giant finally rolled out an assistant preview in which some S8 and S8 Plus owners got to test Bixby’s English version voice features before anyone else. Prior to this, Bixby was only available in Samsung's birth country, South Korea.

The competition in the voice-controlled home speaker space is heating up like never before. In addition to Amazon and Google, who already have their spectacular products in the market, Microsoft, Apple and China'a Alibaba are currently also working on bringing their very own smart speakers to the market as soon as possible.

Samsung being in the finishing stage of its voice-controlled home speaker puts extra pressure on tech giant Microsoft to make their smart speaker better than the South Korean tech giant's product. The two tech giants have had a strainful past together when it comes to the smart speaker space. Microsoft had initially got Harman International onboard for developing the voice-controlled technology for the Redmond software company’s forthcoming smart speaker, but Samsung ended up acquiring Harman putting Microsoft again on the road on a lookout for a new partner. This whole episode did not go down well with Microsoft.

As of today, each tech giant in the world is working day and night to become the preferred brand for voice-controlled operating system of homes, cars, and the other Internet of Things-powered spaces that might arise in the future.
