1) Meet New Real-World Search Engine By Microsoft

Microsoft, the software giant recently demoed a tech using which one can find their things around their house within a click of a button on their smartphone and save themselves precious time. The tech, which is being deemed as the real-world search engine, was unveiled during the recently concluded Microsoft Build 2017 conference, which is the giant’s annual conference for developers in Washington State Convention Center, Seattle.

Microsoft conceived the tech by combining things that have been usage in the tech world for quite sometime. It melded the power of machine-learning powered image recognition and consumer-grade cameras with the computing horsepower existing in the cloud to provide people the power to index things as well as people in a room in real time. This means, if you can easily point a camera at it, you can easily search it within a few seconds rather than roaming cluelessly around the place you think you last kept it.

2) Linksys Is Making Its First Modem-router Hybrid

Networking company Linksys that makes both routers and modems, is now gearing up to release a router/modem hybrid device that combines the two into one. The device, AC1900 Cable Modem Router could turn out to be a good option for people looking to avoid rental fees from ISPs or just hoping to get rid of the piles of cords in their room. The device supports DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem standard and offers an AC1900 router.

3) Facebook To Launch TV-like Shows Next Month

According to a recent article from Business Insider, social networking giant Facebook is reportedly planning to make its television debut next month. According to the report, the company is currently in the midst of developing around 24 shows and plans to premiere the same in mid-June this year. The report said the the Mark Zuckerberg led company is working on two tiers of show: a small number of longer, prestige shows on the order of House of Cards, and more digestible 5- to 10-minute shows that can be added to the Facebook app’s video tab daily.

In February this year, Zuckerberg revealed that he wants users to come to the service for “episodic content.” The whole television initiative is a part of the company's initiative to take a large bite out of the billions of dollars that are spent on television advertising ever year.

4) Apple Is Bringing iTunes To The Windows Store

Windows surprised everyone at its recently concluded Microsoft Build developer conference when it announced that it has been secretly working with Apple to get iTunes listed in the Windows Store. According to them, since iTunes is one of the most searched for apps, they are optimistic that the app will be well received by its Windows Store users.

5) Meet Lighthouse, An Andy Rubin-backed Smart Security Camera That Identifies People and Pets

Lighthouse, which is a product of Android co-founder Andy Rubin’s Playground accelerator, has developed a new smart security camera analysing the needs of the market. According to the startup, the camera isn't just a new hardware product but an “interactive assistant" that incorporates deep learning and 3D-sensing technology to determine who is in the home, where they are inside, and if that’s a normal occurrence or not. The Lighthouse can also determine whether a dog’s been walked and send alerts when kids get home.

6) Snapchat Is Losing Twice As Much Money As It Did Last Year

Snapchat's investors are reportedly not too happy with the company and its growth rate. Since becoming a public company in March this year, Snap reported its earnings for the very first time recently and the numbers aren't pretty. The app's daily active user count went up to 166 million, which is just a 5 per cent increase over last quarter, which is up 36 percent from this time a year ago. Unfortunately, this puts it behind Instagram Stories launched by its rival
Facebook, which already boosts of having 200 million users. Further, the company’s losses have crossed over $2.2 billion till now and the figure is only growing every quarter. As compared to $104 million in cash in the first quarter of 2016, Snapchat has lost a whopping $208 million during the first three months of 2017, which is double the figure in Q1 last year.

7) Gurgaon-based Company’s Invention To Save New Born Babies Wins the Technology Day Award from the Govt of India

Ltd., a Gurgaon-based innovative company funded by Tata Capital Innovations Fund, has been bestowed with the MSME – 2017 Award for successful commercialization of their innovative and indigenous MiraCradle. The award was presented at the exclusive National Technology Day Function 2017 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The award was given by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The award included a cash prize of Rs. 15,00,000 a trophy and a citation.

In what could be considered as a prime example of technology doing wonders, researchers from a university in the US have successfully developed a way through which the tweets posted on the 140 characters social networking giant could help in tracking the spread of seasonal flu, that too in real time.

The new model developed by the Northeastern University researchers utilizes Twitter tweets to predict how a particular infection might affect the human population on planet Earth. The model is expected to enable public health agencies to plan much ahead in launching campaigns that encourage individuals to take preventative measures such as vaccination and increased hand washing and allocating needed medical resources.

9) India’s Plan for Electric Cars From Battery Plant to Charging Stations and Everything You Need To Know

A new draft report by Indian government established policy think tank, Niti Aayog might be indicating towards a crucial change in India’s current mobility paradigm.

The report, Transformative Mobility Solutions for India, carries recommendations of how the Indian subcontinent should electrify all its vehicles by the end of year 2032. The soon to be released report, which has US-based consultancy Rocky Mountain Institute as its co-producer, lays down a 15-year plan to make achieve the 2032 target. In order to achieve the target, the report has broken down the action plan into three different phases, with the first one beginning in 2017 itself.

According to the 90-page report charted out by the think tank, in order to electrify all of the country's vehicles by the end of year 2032, the government needs to start working on opening a battery plant by the end of next year and invest the money coming in from petrol and diesel tax revenues to set up charging stations for electric vehicles across the country.

10) Opera’s New Browser Gives You Direct Access To WhatsApp, Messenger, and Telegram

Opera's latest addition is a messaging sidebar built directly into the browser interface. Starting now, users can now use the sidebar, to directly log into their WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram accounts, and chat with friends and family without ever leaving Opera itself. The feature first debuted in the company’s experimental Neon browser, which was designed to test out Opera’s new, innovative ideas. According to Opera, not only will this help it in differentiating itself from other browsers, but will also save Opera users a lot of time.
