Chetan Bhagat, who was adjudged the most successful writer of 2016 because of his latest novel, One Indian Girl, which outsold every other book published in the country in 2016, made a major announcement yesterday on Twitter.
The famous Indian writer took to the 140-characters social networking site and wrote:
Bhagat, who has written seven fiction and two non-fiction books till date, has decided to take sometime off from his writing career spanning over two decades and make use of his mechanical engineering degree he earned in 1995 from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
The Indian writer, who is infamous for his antics on Twitter, has decided to turn gears from writing and focus his attention on setting up an electronic car project. In an interview to The Quint, Bhagat revealed that his inspiration behind starting an electric car project of his own was none other than Tesla founder Elon Musk.
According to Bhagat, "Tesla already has an electric car out there which is successful, and all auto manufacturers are working on it as well. I am inspired by Elon Musk, but anyone can think along these lines. Technology like this is quickly adopted."
While Bhagat might have taken inspiration from Musk, but he might not be knowing that Musk himself has recently given a hint that we could soon see his successful Tesla electric cars cruising down the Indian streets (Read Here). In fact, according to Musk, it could be as soon as this summer.
Talking about the need of electric cars in India, Bhagat said, since India doesn't produce its own fossil fuels, electric cars need to be really encouraged in the second-largest population on Earth as we can generate as much electricity as we want. According to him, switching to electric cars will make us self-sufficient and not dependent on others for fossil fuels.
Though the Indian subcontinent is expected to become the world’s third-largest auto market by 2020, the electric-car market in the country still remains small. Bhagat hopes to change that in the coming few years.
It will be interesting to see how Bhagat is successfully able to write his innings in his new endeavour.
