Homegrown automotive biggie Tata Motors is on a mission to “redefine” India’s connected car technology. The company yesterday announced about locking a deal with Microsoft India, the Indian-based business unit of the United States' technology giant Microsoft to realise its this mission.

The agreement signed between the two will allow Tata Motors to make use of connected car technologies from Microsoft in order to gift the Indian masses advanced machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities in their cars. As a part of the deal, Tata Motors is specifically looking forward to exploring Microsoft Azure global hyper-scale cloud platform as it will make Tata Motors capable of providing the Indian consumers a smarter, safer and more personalised driving experience than the one which it is currently being available to deliver.

Tata's deal with Microsoft India is its latest move in the line of efforts recently made by the company to take India's automotive scene to the next level. Prior to this, it had announced TAMO, a new business vertical aimed towards exploring innovation and new technology development.

Tata Motors have decided upon the date 7 March 2017 to unveil the first vehicle showcasing their vision for an enhanced driving experience to the world, at the 87th Geneva Motor Show. Tata's unique Microsoft-powered user interface application and service suite will be on office, with remote monitoring, telematics, advanced navigation and predictive maintenance features. Tata will be digging deep into Microsoft sea of solutions in order to implement the bestest of the best advanced connectivity features in its mass-market and mainstream passenger vehicles while making sure they are able to keep the prices affordable and accessible to the general masses. In addition to all this, the Indian automaker will also be working on some new services and applications so as to connect it users to the world of entertainment, social media and work-related networks, but with better safety and security features.

On the other hand, Tata's TAMO will function as an open platform for the automaker to drive innovation and create vehicles that boost of greater connectivity. It's first phase will witness the incorporation of analytics and cloud computing as well as improved geo-spatial mapping and human-machine interface. With the future implementations of Microsoft Azure, it is most likely to see the addition of advanced navigation, predictive maintenance, remote monitoring and other such capabilities.

Commenting on the deal with Microsoft India, Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors said in a statement, “With the aim to develop innovative and technologically leading products that excite customers, we at Tata Motors, understand the need for a connected ecosystem that can integrate into the digital lives of customers. Expressing his sentiments on the partnership, Microsoft India's President Anant Maheshwari said that the company is excited to have partnered with Tata Motors as they get ready embark on their new journey of innovation with Microsoft Azure cloud. He also added, "Using IoT, AI and machine learning technologies, we will provide vehicle owners in India and across the world with a safe, productive and fun driving experience.”
