Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the nation "Start-up India, Stand-up India” from the ramparts of the red fort on 15th August 2015. GTU has contributed to this appeal significantly by now and on coming 15th August 2016 , Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will launch India’s largest Student Start-up literacy program through Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): “Six ways: Introduction to Student Start-ups”. This MOOC program of GTU is going to benefit nearly 50,000 students across the state. Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan , co-founder Infosys will give the commencement address of this program.'
In the India’s largest MOOC for start-up aspirants, Students will learn how other students across countries have done inspiring efforts and created technology innovation driven start-ups right in their colleges. This free but highly relevant program for students will make them aware about nuances of making a technology start-up primarily based on the innovative final year projects which they do every year. This course will also inspire students to become job creators and contribute significantly to economy and employment generation. Such a program will be 1st of its kind in the country and this will be largest start-up literacy effort across any university in India. To contribute towards honourable PM’s vision of Start-up India, Stand-up India, this intervention at GTU Innovation Council will bring in far reaching impact in days to come, Dr. Rajul Gajjar, I/c Vice Chancellor of GTU said. This will rejuvenate the Yuva Shakti in the state and each of them will play pivotal role towards Gatisheel Gujarat. Recently AICTE took notice of GTU Start-up efforts and is trying to scale such things across the country.

“One of the key objectives of this program is to see entrepreneurship training /exposure as an alternative vehicle of skill development. Even if students try hands on and fail in their college days it will equip them with modern skill sets which academic environment does not teach” as shared by Mr.Hiranmay Mahanta , Hon’ Director GTU Innovation Council. He added that, in a country with 5 million plus students across 700 plus universities, democratisation of start-up movement is utmost important. We wish to back integrate the incubation value chain right to the university systems so that more and more students get a chance to take risk right when they are mere 20-21 years, he added.
GTU is country’s 1st large scale state technology university which is making pioneering efforts towards developing a strong student start-up culture across its 500 plus campuses. GTU Innovation Council has been working continuously to promote the start-up culture in its Colleges. Recently GTU became 1st state Tech University in India to get a full-fledged Technology Business Incubator(TBI) from NSTEDB, Govt. of India. GTU Innovation Council developed and implemented 1st of its kind intervention, University Student Start-up Policy at GTU, which is being now implemented in states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and others.
This program will be implemented across GTU under its unique initiative namely, 100 point activity system. This program will share success stories of unique student start-ups from across the country and also share about Start-up ecosystem in India. While 15,000 student projects are done in GTU every year where each student invest its 1 year, this program will aim at creating awareness right in the beginning so that at least 3 % of these innovative projects become student start-ups. The program will also help evaluating the understanding of the students at the end of every module and after successful completion of the program each student will get a certificate and they will fetch 9 activity points. Primarily this program will instil confidence among young students that they can even start up in college if they solve a real life challenge and create innovative solutions .This program will help in understanding the fact that, if they start-up early they can benefit through various ways like: a) Get funded b) join a start-up accelerator c) get acqui-hired d) become self sustainable e) get a job f) go for higher education. Start-up village will host this online program exclusively for GTU students to start with. While the program will be mandatory for all 3rd Semester students it can be availed to all other students who want to benefit from this. This program will also create virtual interfaces between successful start-ups in Silicon Valley and GTU students. Unlike other MOOC courses, this program will include local successful student start-ups as case studies which will help the students to gain confidence.
